Metropolitan by COMO

Miami Beach, Miami

The hotel

With just 74 rooms, this latest offering from the COMO group (of the Metropolitan by COMO London) is able to deliver truly personal, highly celebrated levels of service. You will be very well looked after here, especially if you take a break from South Beach’s nightlife and retail therapy to recharge your batteries at the COMO Shamabala Urban Spa. Indulge in a treatment or simply revel in the Atlantic Ocean views from the rooftop hydrotherapy pool. This is the perfect end to a day spent hitting the boutiques and shops of Lincoln Road, just ten minutes walk away. As the sun sets enjoy famous Floridian seafood dishes at the Metropolitan’s Traymore restaurant with al fresco beachfront dining available. We recommend breakfast here too as the pastry chef is superb! The building is one of Miami’s protected art deco gems, with original features galore. The hotel sits on a long stretch of golden sandy beach, separated from the sand by just the wooden boardwalk that runs along this stretch of South Beach, connecting you to many restaurants and bars the area has to offer.

This was our third time visiting the hotel and our first time with a new manager, Pietro, who arrived in October. We were eager to bring my son and his girlfriend here, and we ended up staying for six days over the Christmas holiday. When we first arrived we were disappointed to find that the fitness center and rooftop pool were being refurbished. It was one of our reasons for returning. But an arrangement had been made for working out at the hotel next door, and Jeremy at the front desk did all he could to assuage our disappointment. The grounds of the hotel are beautiful and the swimming pool on the ground level is a true oasis. A glass of rose poolside, with a delicious guacamole and light corn chips washed away any lingering disappointment. The room it’s self contained a lovely note from the manager with a fantastic tray of sesame encrusted chocolate confections and orchids. These folks know how to take care of guests! It is a very Miami place. Unlike the larger hotels where you could be anywhere, the colors and feel of this small luxury boutique hotel are chic and tropical. Deco sophistication with a Miami twist. So many of the details are done right, which made staying in the room for nearly a week a pleasure. The shower is a steam shower with lots of pressure. There is plenty of space in the bathroom to store all of your gear and in the main room as well. There’s a Nespresso machine in the room. The mint green and white color scheme create an ethereal feel. The bed and linens are sublimely comfortable. It all creates the effect of being swaddled in luxury. We had a terrific evening meal at Traymore too. The hotel details add up to a great experience but what made it even more wonderful was the staff. I wish I could remember everyone by name but they were all warm, courteous, attentive and professional in every way. A lovely woman came by every evening to ask us if we wanted water. This is the kind of experience that has me thinking of the hotel as a Destiination for years to come. Love Miami, love this Como! Read less

In a location known for art deco style and a lively atmosphere, this hotel has plenty of the former and keeps the latter to a minimum, which if you are not into a scene, is a good thing. In a location known for art deco style and a lively atmosphere, this hotel has plenty of the former and keeps the latter to a minimum, which if you are not into a scene, is a good thing. Our room was a decent size and uniquely styled with a sleek look with built in cabinetry, speckled floor, and sea foam green walls. The TV was small and there was only one chair that was not very comfortable. So the room was not an easy place to hang out in but it was cool looking. The bathroom was sexy with all white tiles and a large walk-in rain shower. There was a distant view of the ocean. We had breakfast in the hotel restaurant which also has a stylish look plus a small outdoor seating area. The food was good but $12 for a regular sized glass of orange juice is too much. A standout feature of the hotel is the long infinity edge pool surrounded by comfortable loungers, tucked away in a hedged garden with a small snack bar area. You have to walk through the hotel restaurant and cross a public pathway to get to it, but this did not bother us. Like most pools in Miami Beach you cannot see the ocean from the pool given the wide protected dune area. The gym is just a small overcrowded space and the rooftop spa area was closed during our stay for renovations. Also of note, the building directly to the south of the hotel is getting a new façade which is creating a noisy environment at times that can also be heard at the pool. We liked this hotel because of its small size, fun style, low key vibe, and good location pretty much in the midpoint of Miami Beach and walkable to the places we wanted to go to. The resort fee was $32 per day and parking was $43. Read less

I travel a lot. I stay in 5 star hotels. The Como Metropolitan is not a 5 star hotel. The service is mediocre. The rooms are small. The prices are outrageous. Example: I ordered a salad, a side of bacon and a coffee. My partner ordered pancakes, an avocado and a juice. $90!!! 😳 If the service was outstanding and the hotel was on-point, I would… Read more

Example: I ordered a salad, a side of bacon and a coffee. My partner ordered pancakes, an avocado and a juice. $90!!! 😳 If the service was outstanding and the hotel was on-point, I would understand. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case. They overcharged us at check-out but luckily we reviewed the itemized bill and removed the charge. It was New Year’s in Miami so I know it was busy but service and attention to detail should always remain. Read less

We stayed as a family before Christmas for 5 nights. We are big fans of the COMO hotels, our favourite brand alongside Aman, having stayed in several in Asia. We were not disappointed. The hotel is in an ideal location, being a walk to all that is on offer on South Beach, as well as an easy & inexpensive trip to downtown Miami. Our rooms were excellent, with fabulously luxuriant bedding, and proper power blowaway-the-cobwebs showers. The food was very good, as it always is at COMO; and ALL the staff are super efficient whilst being friendly and fun. It is a smallish hotel, so the whole experience is highly personal and bespoke. A big thanks to everyone at the hotel for making our first trip to Miami so good - we’ll be back! Read less
