Metropolitan by COMO

Miami Beach, Miami

The hotel

With just 74 rooms, this latest offering from the COMO group (of the Metropolitan by COMO London) is able to deliver truly personal, highly celebrated levels of service. You will be very well looked after here, especially if you take a break from South Beach’s nightlife and retail therapy to recharge your batteries at the COMO Shamabala Urban Spa. Indulge in a treatment or simply revel in the Atlantic Ocean views from the rooftop hydrotherapy pool. This is the perfect end to a day spent hitting the boutiques and shops of Lincoln Road, just ten minutes walk away. As the sun sets enjoy famous Floridian seafood dishes at the Metropolitan’s Traymore restaurant with al fresco beachfront dining available. We recommend breakfast here too as the pastry chef is superb! The building is one of Miami’s protected art deco gems, with original features galore. The hotel sits on a long stretch of golden sandy beach, separated from the sand by just the wooden boardwalk that runs along this stretch of South Beach, connecting you to many restaurants and bars the area has to offer.

We stayed here for 5 nights for our honeymoon and had selected this hotel because of its facilities (rooftop pool, spa, pool), relatively small size (to get a more friendly service) and location. Whilst we can’t fault the service (staff were very generally very friendly and helpful), or the location (near the beach but far enough away from South Beach to be a bit quieter), unfortunately we arrived to discover the spa and rooftop pool had been closed for at least a couple of weeks (apparently due to circumstances beyond their control), and we hadn’t been informed. If we had been told, we would have considered a different hotel. Whilst the hotel offered some compensation, this didn’t address the disappointment in not being able to access the spa or views/seclusion of the rooftop pool. We also had a disappointing experience for thanksgiving, when we cancelled our plans to have a meal at the hotel as they were having a thanksgiving dinner. What wasn’t clear until ordering was that both of us needed to order the full 3 course thanksgiving dinner- this was not what we wanted as one of us wanted to order from the a la carte menu. There was no flexibility with this and resulted in us leaving to find another location- which was obviously a challenge on thanksgiving. In summary, I’d recommend this hotel if you want a small boutique hotel with very friendly staff, but I would definitely recommend confirming their facilities prior to arrival if you are interested in a spa or a rooftop pool. We stayed at the Como 4 years ago and at the time it was among the best in the area - we wrote a rave review and vowed to come back. Fast forward to our honeymoon, we found ourself in Miami for 3 nights and couldn’t wait to return. My new husband secretly emailed a few weeks before we arrived to ask them to help him arrange a bottle of fizz in our room on arrival - the hotel sent a lovely response and said of course they would help and would be in touch further and then... nothing. We arrived and were told the restaurant is usually booked out weeks in advance but we had arrived on an uncharacteristically quiet night... we didn’t see more than one or two table occupied the three nights we were there which isn’t a problem (it was midweek) but it was a strange thing to say. We had a drink in the bar and the staff were friendly. We paid for an ocean view room and we ended up next to the building site (appreciate the noise isn’t the hotels fault) and unable to see the ocean because of the trees. When we mentioned this the staff did very kindly move us to a much better room which we really appreciated and hence the three stars. Sergio was also very friendly when we checked out but other than that it was an incredibly disappointing end to our honeymoon. The gym was unclean and without water or towels and the roof top pool felt a bit abandoned with lose tiles etc. - it generally just feels like the hotel has had a fall from grace but maybe we were just unlucky? the highlight of the Como was on arrival , when we were greeted by John - who assisted us with reservations and helpful advice for our stay in Miami . He was unable to get us dinner reservation at the Versace Palazzo but the visit to Vizcaya mansion was fantastic ! Thank you John - you are a asset in customer service to the hotel , Stephen

My Fiance and I stayed at the Como metropolitan over the long week-end and we had a fantastic stay! We had a few hipcups at the beginning of our stay with our room but Melodie and John, 2 gems of the wondeful staff at the COMO, made sure to go above and beyond to fix our issue, and for that, we are extremely grateful to them. The hotel is in a prime location. The beach is absolutely great and since the hotel is more on the boutique side you get to enjoy more privacy on the beach then if you were at a busier hotel. The rooms are comfortable and cozy, and if you can upgrade to a suite do it! The suite with a beach view is absolutely stunning and the view you have on the beach is breathtaking. The restaurant at the hotel is absolutely worth trying. Miami is known to have excellent food but we can say without a doubt that the meal that we had at the restaurant hotel was the best one we had in Miami! Long story short, we had a wonderful stay at the COMO and will definately go back next time we go to Miami and thank you again to Melodie and John for everything you did for us! Read less
