Newport Beachside Hotel and Resort Miami

Miami, Florida

The hotel

This hotel has a famous past, with celebrated entertainers such as Sammy Davis Jnr, Jimi Hendrix and Tina Turner often performing here. Things are still very lively now, but focusing much more on family-friendly pursuits than rock ‘n roll. With a fantastic oceanfront setting and many rooms having sweeping views of the sea, this is a very appealing option for those looking to be close to the centre of Miami but offering better value for money. There are lots of activities on offer to keep everyone busy all day, make sure you ask for the Escape to Fun activity programme when you check-in so you don’t miss a thing. For pampering whilst the kids are busy, make sure you venture to the Aveda spa.

The hallway and rooms look like a scene straight out of the movie THE SHINING... The only thing missing in the hallway were the twins at the end of the hallway. The couch had stains that were terrible. The resort changed our rooms but that room was not any better. We were advised if a guess books through RCI those guest are given the worst rooms. This resort needs to get removed as an option. Read less

We were booked to stay for 4 nights. Party of 5 (2 families) and had booked a 2 bed room suite. Only informed on arrival re the extra resort fees and parking charges. Only two elevators working, with the staff also using these as apparently their service elevator was being refurbished. This resulted in long wait times. Eventually get to our suite. Room was disgusting. Bathroom was tiny and not suitable. How they expected 5 people to share this I don’t know. Fridge not working. The layout meant that we would have to climb over whoever was using the sofa bed when we wanted to use the bathroom. Complained to the desk staff. Made to wait whilst the manager went to see if there was another room (she couldn’t be bothered to come and speak to us directly) then offered the same suite on a different floor which was slightly bigger but with the same layout. This room was again extremely dirty, old/ tired and the bathroom was awful. Wi-fi didn’t work. The carpet in the hallways was lifting and the fire hose had been replaced with a small fire extinguisher which I don’t think would be adequate for a large fire. The hallways reminded me of the film “the shining” We went back to reception to be told there were no other rooms available. Made the decision to leave and booked the residence inn by Marriott hotel which is on the same street. Wow the difference in class is amazing. Definitely recommend this hotel instead of the Newport beachside. Read less

Although this is an older hotel, the very friendly staff and cheaper price more than made our 1 week vacation stay enjoyable. Rented 3 rooms and Cyrus allowed us to make late departures on 2 of them (other one a timeshare was coming in) to catch late flights from Ft. Lauderdale Airport on a Sunday. We had a family reunion w/30 people for Saturday morning breakfast buffet in the Ocean Reef Café and manager Crissy Raines, who I had e-mailed earlier, arrange to have it set up separately next door in Kitchen 305 dinning room, making it more convenient for everyone to mingle w/the family. Her staff was outstanding then an during our whole week stay, especially Andrea and Gina, our waitresses, who treated us like family. Also, the friendly staff for the beach put up many, many umbrellas (20 on the weekend) and chairs close to the ocean (hot sand in the summertime, warm, clear waters), visited them several times in the early mornings and always treated me kindly. There were 3 outstanding members of this staff: D'Sean, Samuel and Isaiah, but all of them took good care of us, including Nic-Anthony, Joseph, Josh, Jeremy, Brian Franco and Jamesly. I have stayed several times here, some many years ago, and we enjoy it if you're not looking for luxury in the rooms. There's a fishing peer and good restaurants nearby (recommend El Tropico Cuban Cuisine, especially Saturday nights w/Cuban music). Tony Roma's was a good place for steaks and ribs. And of course, Versailles in Calle 8 (8th St. just south of Miami Airport), very famous Cuban restaurant where Presidents visit when they go to Miami, is only about 1 hr. away. Also recommend Havana 1957 restaurants, we visited the one in Pembroke Pines, but there're some by South Miami Beach area. Read less
