Expecting a upscale hotel as advertised and was extremely disappointed. Save your money and go to a courtyard Marriott or Hilton garden inn. They are nicer than the Portofino. We stayed in the family suite. We had trouble on checking in as we could barely understand the woman checking us in. When we were being taken to our room we had to dodge remodeling/construction, none of which was ever told to us until we were walking over construction material. The room and hallway during our whole stay smelled of paint fumes and other construction smells. Our linen was never changed the entire 3 days we were there. The bedding had holes in it and the towels had stains on them. The layout of the hotel is awful. The elevators are at one end of the wing and we were staying close to the last rooms and you had a lengthy walk. This wouldn’t be to horrible but I have mobility issues. The beautiful courtyard that is shown on the website is very misleading. Most of the shops are closed up the ones open you had to dodge leaky ceilings and tubs collecting dripping water. As far as eating, the hotel restaurants are overpriced you are better of going to the city walk and eating. The only good to point out is the kids room of the family suite is okay, the water taxi is nice and the walking path is a wonderful surprise. Read less

This was our first time staying at the Lowes Portofino Bay Hotel. We normally stay at the Hard Rock across the street but for several reasons we chose to try this hotel. By far we enjoyed the ambiance, character, and spacious grounds of this hotel. We had several discussions about which we preferred and despite some of the downsides (when compared to the Hard Rock) we would chose to stay here. First, it is a bit farther from the parks then the Hard Rock. We considered the Hard Rock a small hike after a long day at the parks, the Portofino Bay is a bit farther making it a long hike and one we did not wish to do. For many I would consider this walking distance but for us it was a bit far. The water taxi or the bicycle rickshaw worked just fine. We did not use the buses (this would be a worse case scenario as the bus area is chaos). The harbor and shops, along with the many piazzas and quite sitting areas were very nice so you could sit, not in your room, and still be in a pretty and comfortable environment. Probably the the biggest draw back was the room layout. We reserved a double queen deluxe room. This is the same room category we would get at the HR. The layout at the HR is far superior as the vanity is seperate from the shower and toilet so one could be getting ready while someone else could shower or use the toilet. Also, at the HR there was a separate semi-private changing area out of view from the remainder of the room and for a family of 4 with two boys and two girls (teens and tweens) this was a nice feature. As it was in our room there was only the bathroom that allowed for any provacy from the remainder of the room. The bathroom however, was superior to the HR. Much larger, with a soaking tub and a separate stand up shower. Audio from the TV could be played in the bathroom and there were also two vanities. We really appreciated the Bell service as they comped our roll-a-bed for us making everyone comfortable. We are going to return in a few weeks and try it again and see if our first impressions hold up, but we really liked the hotel. The only service curtique would be that the service left used glasses and dishes in the room after making the beds. This may have been a one time oversight but it was noticeable to us. Also on a positive, the concierge decorated the room with bunting and balloons with a card and Hogwarts acceptance letter for our 11 year olds birthday. This was complimentary. Read less

This is a beautiful property with easy access to City Walk and the parks. The rooms are large and very comfortable. The staff is pleasant and professional and very responsive. The extras including unlimited Express Pass certainly add value to the price of the room.
