The hotel

The adventure of a jungle safari comes alive right before your eyes at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge. With lush surroundings and beautiful savannahs, you'll be transported to another world when you step through the front doors. From restaurants, viewing platforms, and possibly even your room, you can watch zebra, giraffes and gazelles roam free and graze in their natural environments. Little ones can learn more about the fascinating animals, and even be a junior researcher for a day. And when you're not watching the animals in awe, you can take a dip in one of the pools, feast on some good food, or hit the parks in a matter of minutes! The adventure never ends here.

My boyfriend and I stayed here early May, we're a childless late 20s couple and this was my first ever Disney trip. The Jambo House lobby was beautiful and the savanna was cool but I didn't find those things able to make up for the price tag and issues. They were understaffed or maybe inappropriately staffed with percent of new people and it definitely showed in the staff demeanor. Our room was adequate but pretty meh. It had a damp/mildew smell. The walls here are really thin. I found the property to be quite claustrophobic, there didn't seem to be a ton to do besides for the pool or space to spread out. Our biggest issue was with the food service. The quick service was offensively bad and was just a straight up cafeteria, absolutely 0 ambiance. The only other restaurants were full table service that required hard to get reservations and more eating/money/planning than we wanted. No middle ground food options. There was also no lobby bar open until 5 so if you wanted a drink before that you had to go out to the pool bar, obviously not the end of the world but just kind of silly. We had planned on staying here our entire trip but ended up asking if there was anything else available after two nights. We moved over to Coronado Springs and absolutely loved it. Read less

This was our third stay at Jambo House since the early 2000s and there is still much to praise about this property, particularly the magnificent lobby. We stayed in a two bedroom, savanna view lock off villa. It was spacious, clean and had an amazing view. I could sit on my balcony and watch okapi, giraffes and ostrich all day long. The kitchen was well-equipped with dishes, pans and utensils. The only thing it could have used was a non-stick frying pan for eggs. The living room and dining areas are clean and comfortable and the decor has touches of Lion King theming. None of the furniture looks brand-new, but it is all clean and in good condition. Our bedroom was large and clean with sufficient storage and the bathroom, unlike Kidani which has a larger bathroom, combines tub and shower, but is still large a good size and well-equipped. H20 shampoo, conditioner and body wash are in dispensers in the shower. They have a lovely smell. My son stayed in the lock-off studio and it was also well-appointed and roomy. Note that studios have a microwave and a food prep area, but not the full kitchen the larger villas have. Transportation to the theme parks from this resort is good. There was only one night when the Magic Kingdom bus was delayed and the driver said he was the only person with that route that day, so I guess they were understaffed. We ate dinner at The Mara one night and were impressed with the quality of this quick service restaurant. Every cast member we encountered at AKL was friendly and helpful. Special thanks to Blake for helping us with check in. Even with all this positive feedback, I do have a few criticisms: Check in was at 4. We arrived around 4 and were told our room would be ready shortly. It had been cleaned and was awaiting a housekeeping inspection. My husband went out to do the food shopping and when he returned over an hour later, the room was just ready. We have had this awaiting housekeeping inspection delay at AKL Kidani as well, so it makes me wonder what the process is and how it can be made more efficient. The second issue was that when we returned to our room after dinner, we used the app to unlock the doors as we had been instructed to. We swiped and swiped to no avail. My son and I stood in the hall for a half hour while my husband went to the front desk to ask for help. The person behind the desk suggested we delete the MDE app and re-install it.My husband responded that while that often works on other apps and is a credible suggestion, given that every reservation, park pass and My Genie+ payment we had was stored in that app, he would not feel comfortable deleting it. The cast member sympathized and made us key cards to open our rooms, commenting that this problem is particularly common with lock-offs. If it is a common problem, maybe it bears investigation. Finally, I love that the extra pillow and blankets are stored in zip-tied bags, so that they stay clean and can't used more than once, but the extra blanket is the texture of a pair of cheap terry sweatpants, so not particularly warm. I know it's Florida, so it's not very cold, but a proper blanket would be better. Last, I love the pool area at this resort. The zero entry is a great feature, and the slide is fun. All in all, this was a very pleasant stay, if not a perfect one. Read less

We had a fabulous dinner at Jiko which I highly recommend and breakfast at Boma buffet style dining. We also enjoyed the bar at Victoria Falls featuring a Mt. Kilimarita a very unique twist on a classic margarita. We didn’t have time to enjoy the pool as it was a very short trip to EPCOT to enjoy a preview of the soon to open new ride Guardians of the Galaxy. Read less

My husband and I stayed at Animal Kingdom Lodge at Kidani with a savannah view for our second ever visit to Walt Disney World, and thought it was amazing. Both Jambo and Kidani have beautiful lobbies with wonderful, friendly, and knowledgeable staff and keepers. I enjoyed visiting each displayed artifact to learn more about what they were and what they did. The wood carver at Jambo was awesome to watch, and I wish I would have thought to ask where they were displayed once he finished. The animals at each savannah are amazing, and they are active all day. We were able to book the nighttime safari at Kidani, and I highly recommend it! We weren't able to take part in some of the other offered activities due to time, but I feel like I could spend a lifetime here. The animals are well taken care of, and there are plenty of ways to enjoy watching them. There is a shuttle that runs from Jambo to Kidani, so it makes it easier to make your way to the restaurants that Kidani doesn't have. We actually ate at each of the restaurants on our visit! We ordered bread service at Sanaa to eat in our room, as well as a quick service breakfast one morning for a hearty meal. We ate at Boma for dinner one night, and breakfast on our last day. Breakfast shouldn't be missed at Boma! We did also eat at Jiko (the best meal our entire stay) as a walk-up. We did have to sit at a bar table, but still had access to the entire menu and the best service from Brian and Brian! I do wish Kidani had an option like The Mara, but it doesn't take much to actually make it to the quick service restaurant. We ate here for a late lunch one day, and I thought the falafel platter was very good. We felt were an okay distance from everything, although there were rooms that felt miles away. The pool at Kidani is nice, and has a better slide for adults. The Jambo pool is just a bigger version, and we were able to enjoy it for a day. Sometimes the buses did take a while to get to us, but that's to be expected when taking Disney transportation. As for housekeeping, they did take our trash every other day (which seemed excessive, to me, although I don't have kids). Our towels were taken and refreshed every third day, although we never had our sheets changed or made up, which was totally okay with us. We just wanted to take a shower and get into bed as soon as we walked into the room at the end of the day. We did rent points, and found it much cheaper than other options for staying at a Disney resort. So many of the Disney resorts seem amazing, and I look forward to coming back to Animal Kingdom Lodge again! If you don't plan properly, even months in advance, you may not have the trip you want. I'd recommend staying at this resort! Read less
