Finolhu

Maldives, Indian Ocean

The hotel

The designers had fun when creating Finolhu. A mix of retro-chic design and futuristic touches, like the funnel-shaped bar terrace, it would defy its desert island location if it weren’t for rustic Maldivian throwbacks like thatched roofs. Its entertainment’s anything but ‘typical’ too, especially Baa Baa Beach Club restaurant’s retro pool parties, DJ sessions and cinema screenings. Its other eateries are equally exciting, from the Milk Bar ‘old school tuck shop’ to the rustic yet refined Fish & Crab Shack, set on the sandbar and reached by foot, swimming, or dhoni boat. This fun resort is a great choice for couples and families, and offers many à la carte water experiences — between May and October you can take a trip to see manta rays. Or try glamping Finolhu-style — spend a night in the unique Beach Bubble Tent on a secluded stretch of sand. Chill out, watch the sun set and enjoy a private beach barbecue before spending a night under the stars and watching the sun rise next morning.

Image of the Tripadvisor rating Good for groups who want to party and are not too worried about the environment

The resort is good for groups who want to party. It looks good on Instagram, but once you are there it lacks a personal touch. Not great if you really care for marine life and the environment. Reception and concierge staff have to improve. BaaHaa Grill restaurant not up to standards.

The food was great everyday we got to have so many different varieties. Retro style of the island is an unforgettable memory. All the staffs was amazing and loved the stay. but but i got very rude customer service from the late night staff working at the reception lady afaa. she was very rude and not responding as we asked her for a buggy service she was on the phone for a long time without attending we did not complain this. But hope her manager can improve her, we had a great enjoyment at 1oak bar that night, it was all ruined because of her. Read less

We went on a Luxury Escapes package which was great value as it included transfers, food and drinks. Though the special restaurants ( crab shack, Kanusan and Baa Grill) had an additional moiety associated. We took the seaplane to the island. If you are a priority pass customer you can use the Wellness lounge at the international airport to wait in. This is an advantage as it can be hot waiting and there is limited seating. Be aware of a 20 kg weight restriction on the seaplane plus 1 hand luggage at 5 kg. You wait at the airport and then get transported by a bus to the seaplane . The seaplane takes about 20 mins and is a spectacular ride. Extra moiety $165 pp for that over the luxury escapes package. The seaplane arrives at the jetty which is a bonus ( no waiting out on a pontoon for the resort boat to pick you up) Very friendly welcome and smooth transition to our room We had an over the water pool villa which was gorgeous. There is a buggy that picks you up and drops you off at your villa or you can take a bike ride as the villas have two bikes for them. They will prebook you at their special restaurants so you don’t miss out. Service was good, staff friendly and attentive but not intrusive Food was smorgasbord style and one could always find something you wanted to eat . Salads were plentiful and fresh. Sweets were very beautiful so compliments to the pastry chef, cocktails , good variety and well made. Recommend the banana and strawberry frozen daiquiris. All included. Champagne is expensive. The vibe is retro sixties/ seventies beach club with upbeat recognisable music. They had a live jazz player on one occasion at the bar and had various activities It’s certainly more lively than other resorts visited, which we preferred. Some we have visited are just too quiet. Shout out to Marc the manager and Ali, Sheam, Ronnilu and Stephanie for great service. Recommend bringing a sun visor or cap as none available on site and the sun is bright. Though there is always a nice breeze and it felt cooler than some islands where cross breeze was blocked by heavy vegetation. Highly recommend a stay here We Hope to come back next year! Read less

The resort is fine, and has a cool style. Kind of hard to go wrong with the stunning beauty of the Maldives. My main issue is the customer service experience. They took a 500 USD deposit on my credit card on check in, and when we checked out they charged us additionally for the other extras (one of the restaurants that wasn't included in the food and beverage package) and told us the $500 would be refunded within 5-6 business days. Here we are 3 weeks later and it still hasn’t been refunded. I have called 4 times, sent 2 emails and have not had a single response. I suspect most people don't check their credit card statements and the resort keeps many people's deposits. Read less
