Finolhu

Maldives, Indian Ocean

The hotel

The designers had fun when they created Finolhu. A mix of retro-chic design and futuristic touches, it would defy its desert island setting if it weren’t for the rustic Maldivian gestures. Head to the funnel-shaped bar terrace or to Baa Baa Beach Club — enjoy one of the DJ sessions or cinema screenings or time your stay for a retro pool party. Visit the Milk Bar ‘old school tuck shop’ and take a stroll, swim or dhoni boat to the the rustic yet refined Fish & Crab Shack, set out on the sandbar. Among the many water experiences here are cruises to spot dolphins and, between May and October, trips to see manta rays. For something a bit different, try glamping Finolhu-style in the Beach Bubble Tent — chill out, watch the sun set and enjoy a private beach barbecue, before spending a night under the stars and watching the sun rise next morning.

Having just arrived home from beautiful FINOLHU . We are planning our return already. We have never met such an amazing team, they were attentive from our arrival in Male they whisked us away to our seaplane then onto our exotic location of Finolhu. This newly renovated resort is of such a high standard ,the decor of all the villas are slightly different but equally beautiful of bright and delicate hues blending into the views of turquoise lagoons and white sandy beaches. within hours we were hooked with the laid back bohemian feeling of which is new class of Maldives, We were barefoot from the start to end, which is completely our style and our impression of the Maldives. The cuisine in all of their restaurants is outstanding from the wonderful MEMO who has amazing culinary skills and incredibly talented , calm & friendly, who chose our food along with wonderful BEN ,being French and well travelled with his great knowledge of wine, champagne ,working with their amazing team ,attentive throughout our stay at Kanusan asian over water new look with a cool glass sushi dinning area and waters edge seating also, Arabic Grill on the beach, beach club and not forgetting the stunning Crab shack on the silky sand bank a short walk along the waters edge. With their specialty of coconut prawns. It is unusual to have so many 5 star dining options for vegan , vegetarian and pescatarian at one resort, we were so happy. We had wonderful messages and vitamin c facials in their serene spa. Don't forget to try the beach bubble for newly weds or couples ,a romantic night under the stars with sunset breakfast, you must check it out but must be prebooked as its so unique. We did not have enough time to try all the water sports and what the resort had to offer, which were plentiful....we must return. the boutique Edition is very high quality with cool international designer labels.Loved it. The feeling of the amazing team from the main Aussie man MARK, beautiful ANNA, MEMO, BEN, sweet SARA who won the bet ,she knows why[haha] ,XANDRA, GUL GUNA , ' ASRAF. our turn down sweet guy ,there are too many amazing people to mention and sorry not to mention the complete team , just cant wait to return, thank you all at FINOLHU you are amazing and should be so proud of your little gem in baa atoll Maldives. Due to the current situation, there were very few guests on site during our stay. Nevertheless, a huge team of incredibly friendly and courteous employees was available during the entire stay. Every day you felt like a very special guest and not like one of many. Finolhu wasnt our first maldives trip but it was the best one! The special thing about this island is undoubtedly the dreamlike and completely natural sandbank. In contrast to other resorts, it is possible here to retire completely privately or to enjoy the "Island Playground" with its events and offers in party and sports. The island is incredibly well cared for and impresses with its high quality at every point. The villas are breathtaking, the gym is equipped above average and after this year's renovation the design inspires you again and again. The restaurants, whether the standard restaurant "Beach Kitchen" or the "Arabian", play in a very high league when it comes to the quality and freshness of the products. Even the simplest dishes impress with their sophisticated details. The "Crab Shack" is one of the best restaurants we have ever visited. Not only the location, but also the selection and preparation of the dishes is outstanding. We had two unforgettable weeks and will definitely come again! Read less

Upon arrival to the sea plane jetty we were surprised and excited to see what seemed to be most of the staff and management there to greet us. Unbeknown to us we were the first guests on the island since before the lockdown and so it was a special occasion. Marc, Anna and Ben were names we’d come to know over our stay and are an integral part of the management team. Sara, our host for our stay whisked us off to your water villa in no time at all giving us a small tour of the facilities en route and it was everything we had imagined and more. Firstly the Dive Centre where you can find friendly and informative faces in Natalie, Tom and the crew. Anything you can think of doing with them is available as long as it’s in season and if you get the chance, swimming with Manta Rays is a must! Next was the hub of the island, where you find main reception, the pool area, main restaurant and bar. An amazing space filled with colours that you would expect to see in the landscape but are inviting and vibrant. Follow the sandy lane through to the the Arab Grill and Asian fusion restaurant Kanusan. We were not able dine in the new restaurant but look forward to doing so in the future as it looks like it will be an amazing place to dine. Now on to our accommodation for the week, an ocean villa with pool. Upon opening the door, the only thing we cold say was “wow!”. The views the interiors, the ambience, everything felt right. I won’t mention the check in procedure as it’s an experience all on its own. There are Indoor and outdoor showers with more than enough room to have a family of four if needed. There is also a large veranda with luxury daybed seating area, sun beds and additional shower to use post snorkelling or pre-swimming. The pool is large enough for a few short lengths if that’s your thing on holiday. A little further and you’re on a stairway to heaven into the sea. The warm waters surrounding the island are a hive for sea life and it’s a must every morning and or evening if you can before the sunset. The Pool Villas are on the Sunset side and I urge you to enjoy them if you can for a sundowner from your incredibly well stock minibar or wine fridge. This it too long already, but I cannot leave this review without imploring you to visit the Crab shack at the end of the island. In the day, work up an appetite for lunch by walking, in the evening, take a ride on the amazing boat that’s been built for guests to travel all day and night to that part of the island. I don’t have any suggestions for this particular eatery or any restaurant on the island as they are all amazing and served at a 5 star level across the board. The drinks available are well put together and the wine list extensive. If you’re looking for luxury as a honeymoon, holiday or escape, I cannot recommend this paradise enough. We look forward to visiting again. Thank you Marc, Anna, Ben and all the team for a memorable time. Read less

The best first experience in Maldives! Beyond expectations. The arrival was very smooth, starting off from the airport. The sea plane was an exceptional experience. Rooms were enormous and wonderfully decorated. We stayed in lagoon villa, then beach and water villa as well. The food was exceptionally good too! Every tourists’ dream come true!
