Finolhu

Maldives, Indian Ocean

The hotel

The designers had fun when creating Finolhu. A mix of retro-chic design and futuristic touches, like the funnel-shaped bar terrace, it would defy its desert island location if it weren’t for rustic Maldivian throwbacks like thatched roofs. Its entertainment’s anything but ‘typical’ too, especially Baa Baa Beach Club restaurant’s retro pool parties, DJ sessions and cinema screenings. Its other eateries are equally exciting, from the Milk Bar ‘old school tuck shop’ to the rustic yet refined Fish & Crab Shack, set on the sandbar and reached by foot, swimming, or dhoni boat. This fun resort is a great choice for couples and families, and offers many à la carte water experiences — between May and October you can take a trip to see manta rays. Or try glamping Finolhu-style — spend a night in the unique Beach Bubble Tent on a secluded stretch of sand. Chill out, watch the sun set and enjoy a private beach barbecue before spending a night under the stars and watching the sun rise next morning.

Words really do not do this island paradise any justice! The live entertainment Duo were fabulous and excellent musicians. The acrobats were super extraordinary. The service was impeccable at the bars and restaurant and the facility was second to none. The Baa Atol island is the best of the Maldives

Best holiday ever! We spent a week here on the all inclusive package in a lagoon villa. The accomodation was brilliant, and the staff fantastic. We were having a swim in the lagoon outside our room and had the privilege of a large Manta Ray swim casually between us. On another occasion a Cowtail Ray swam with me for a few minutes about 30 m from our ladder. The staff were superb - special thanks to Afrah and Ahusan (housekeeping) who looked after our every need with a smile and captured (and shared) the video of the Manta swimming in front of our room. They organised a special surprise on our last day to celebrate our Ray encounters (see attached pic). The food was great and we did not have a bad mouthful. Singh (new junior sous chef) greeted us every day, recommended dishes we would like and his attention to detail and friendly helpful manner was greatly appreciated. Cindi and Sue organised our activities and were also fantastic. They organised a bottle of champagne and a sweet birthday message for us. We were also very impressed with how we were greeted at the airport, organised a domestic flight and boat in a heartbeat when our seaplane was grounded due to poor weather. We were looked after like royalty every second of our visit. I cannot recommend this experience highly enough. Read less

Me & my wife stayed here for a week on the 2nd leg of our honeymoon. The island is stunning, modern and really easy to get around. The food is unreal and we never had a bad meal, our favourite being the crab shack which is an absolute must. The staff are so polite and friendly and nothing ever seemed too much trouble. We also stayed in the bubble and although its expensive was worth every penny. Ammie who was our Bubble Butler deserves a special mention as he was first class and also an excellent photographer who captured the moments so well. The overwater villa was stunning, really spacious and the cleaner would come twice a day to clean and replenish water. The only reason this is a 4.5 star review rather than a 5 is down to... When we were getting shown around we were told we could only book the a la carte restaurants once which included the crab shack. We were told by other guests we had met this was not the case and they had been booking one every night. We were also told the all inclusive bar closed at 11pm but this was also incorrect as this finished at 1am. The entertainment. When we booked we were sold a more upbeat vibe, DJs, 1OAK beach club but when we arrived i believe the hotel is now under new ownership and 1OAK are no longer there. There was a DJ advertised most days for the pool and when he was there he was really good but most of the time the same playlist would play every day and the tunes got repetitive. Also the 2 singers who played the same dated terrible songs would play the same set every day. Some night they were so bad we would go back to our room, the opinion shared by some guest we made friends with. For a 5 star resort these are 2 star entertainers at best and really damage the perception the hotels marketing suggests. Me & my wife would come back in a heartbeat & loved spending our honeymoon here. Read less

SIMPLY THE BEST!! From the moment you arrive Finolhu is very impressive. Singh, Maurice and Zihaan... are just three of the most wonderful staff who made our stay truely amazing. A quick run down: Rooms: very comfortable bed with a choice of pillows (via email before you arrive 👍) very clean Not one, not two, but THREE showers (2 outside and one indoor) Huge freestanding bath Big fluffy towels Coffee machine Ample wardrobe space (his and hers) Complimentary thongs (the foot kind) Outside: Large day bed Two big comfy chairs and sun lounges FOOD: Buffet breakfast lunch dinner. Some of the best quality buffet I’ve tasted. Good variety and fresh. I’m not a desert eater but the selection of deserts looked amazing. Thank you Singh for introducing me to the “hot pot” for breakfast! My favourite restaurant is the BaaBaa Grill. Fantastic North African food (personally it tasted more like middle eastern food) A must is the lamb! Crab shack is great .. we walked there for dinner the first night. Unbelievable number of hermit crabs along the sand bank. Kanusan, another amazing location. The veranda is above the gentle rolling waves and the food is fabulous. Nightlife: It’s up to you. There is something on at least 3 times per afternoon/evening. Circus performers doing acrobatics and fire juggling. After dinner one evening we had fun playing Texas Poker in the once per week “fun and games night”. I’ve never seen a “gambling establishment” turn the tables and ensure the house loses and the player walks away winning! One night we sat on very comfortable bean bags, sipping red wine with a delicious cheese platter (and pop corn) watching a movie on a big screen on the the beach. After which we joined some new friends at the Oak 1 Club for a night cap enjoying a terrific DJ. Just to confirm, the music can not be heard from the lagoon villas.. it’s very peaceful there. Summary: LOVE FINOLHU! You must go!! Read less

Just returned from our 5 night stay, and couldn't have imagined anything more picture perfect to celebrate our honeymoon! We booked through a luxury escapes deal and would 100% recommend. We had the all inclusive dining and drinks package - didn't included the mini bar. From the seaplane to the amazing arrival welcome from the staff, they definitely know how to make you feel welcomed. The buffet style food in the main restaurant was excellent and catered to a variety of different cuisines, we thoroughly enjoyed the different theme nights they put on for dinner each night so you always have something different to look forward to. The other restaurants on the island - Fish and crab shack was excellent for lunch and the views are equally amazing - You must have the signature lemon tart for dessert! Baahaa grill and Kanusan for dinner again amazing food, just make sure you don't over eat at the buffet for breakfast and lunch on that day or you will regret it. Also recommend if in your package you have these restaurants included that you book these as soon as you get there as they get booked out. I think i had every imaginable flavour of daiquiri during our stay and the staff were always willing to make anything we requested within our drinks package of course, which included the majority of your basic spirits and cocktails - if you're wanting top shelf brands then these aren't included, but we were fine with that. The staff were always very friendly and helpful, and we got to know some quite well during our stay. Our over water ocean view bungalow (with pool) was excellent, the bed and pillows were huge and extremely comfortable. The room was serviced twice daily and was always left, clean and tidy with fresh towels. First few days were a bit overcast but that didn't stop us getting burnt or having a great time swimming and snorkeling as the weather is still hot. Also experience 2 storms which happened whilst we were asleep but woke up to the thunder and lightening. Again this couldn't dampen our spirits. Loved snorkeling off the back of our villa and saw large variety of fish, black tip reef sharks and stingrays most days. The non motorised water sports were all included and we enjoyed using the kayaks to explore the lagoon area. The walk to and from our water villa was about 15 mins to the main dining area, it was a nice walk though if you didn't want to wait for the golf buggy. They did run pretty frequently though and most of the time they would pick you up on the way if you were walking so you didn't need to necessarily wait at the designated stops. We are sad that we had to leave paradise, but have a lot of photos and memories to look back on, but will definitely try to get back there someday to relive them again. Read less
