Jumeirah Vittaveli

Maldives, Indian Ocean

The hotel

It’s hard to return to everyday life after a stay at Jumeirah Vittaveli: the very definition of luxury. Your beach villa is entirely secluded, but still gives direct access to the beach or lagoon, putting you just a swim from one of South Malé Atoll’s healthiest house reefs and five shipwrecks. At your villa, every luxury awaits: an oversized L-shaped pool (you can swim from your bathroom, around your villa, to your terrace), semi-open rain showers, interactive TVs, even adjustable mood lighting. In fact, it will be impossible to holiday anywhere else after you’ve lazed on the daybeds enjoying cocktails at B4R, dined with your feet in the sand at Mu Beach Bar, woken early for yoga in the spa garden and sunk into the massage table in an overwater treatment room. And, with one of the Maldives’ largest kids' clubs and Ice Ice Maybe, the Maldives' first ice rink built from artificial 'Glice', who can disagree?

Spent a week during May 2019 here ( after we were happy with out stay back in Sep ) & did not regret it at all! Loved coming back to this beautiful Resort & meeting the same butler of our last stay, Anissa was a pleasant surprise. On a positive note we had only to wait for 15 min in the lounge waiting for our Villa to be ready in spite of the fact we arrived at the Resort at 10.30 hrs. Really appreciated after almost 12 hours of traveling. Our Infinity Water Villa Sunrise no 405 was beautiful, spacious & modern. The waters quality is out of this world & the pool deck so spacious & comfortable. The newly added sunken sitting area along with the hanging havoc was the icing of the cake. Spent hours reading books, swimming in the lagoon or the pool in the evening & never got bored. It was lovely also spending time at the main pool area where the Shisha bar services were outstanding. Very friendly personnel which always tries to make you feel good. The view of the white sand beach along with the Ocean Retreats is like a post card really! The food was also very good in all the restaurants we tried. Most of the times we visited the MU Bar which has excellent grilled meats & sea food while the service is excellent. The people there remembered us from last Sep so we felt almost at home there. What surprised us were the special nights at Samsara especially the Sea food night which was excellent as well as the Grilled Food night where we had excellent steaks prepared in front of you. My less favorite was the Italian night which did not come close to the above 2 themes. The best restaurant however was the Fennesse where we dined our 2nd night there. My wife went for the full menu which included lobster bisque ( got to have some too & tasted heavenly ) followed by a Kobe 9++ steak with foie gras which was the best my wife have had for a long time! I had a funghi risotto with truffle oil which was delicious along with the best prepared Bahramundi fish ever had in the Maldives! However what will be stuck in our memory for ever is the Dessert which Fabio, the Italian Chef prepared on our table for almost 30 minutes!! The outcome was a masterpiece of design along with excellent tastes of chocolate / ice cream & so many fruits coulis used by him. The man puts so much passion in presenting it to you that we recorded the whole ordeal on our phones! Price was of course too high but honestly worth every penny of it! The Resort must be proud to have such a gourmet restaurant Read less

My husband and I were lucky enough to travel to this resort for our 5yr wedding anniversary last week. The resort is a 30 minute trip by motorised catamaran from Malé airport (shared with other guests arriving on the same flight, or 20 minutes by private speed boat). On arrival at the airport you will be met by a hotel representative who will settle you in the arrivals lounge and start your check in process. On arrival at the island, you’ll be greeted by your host for your stay. He or she is your point of contact for booking anything and everything there is to do, possibly apart from water sports - we did all of that through the dive centre. You’ll be shown around the resort on an electric buggy and then left at your villa. We stayed for two nights in a beach villa and then the remainder of the stay in an infinity pool ocean villa. The beach villa was astonishingly private, with a fantastic wrap-around plunge pool, shaded day bed and dedicated sun beds on the beach, located probably 15m from the door of the villa. The bathroom was huge with both indoor and outdoor showers and a massive outdoor bath. Inside the room was very comfortable and spacious, my only criticism would be that it was a bit dark, especially in the walk-in-wardrobe. The ocean villa was similarly private and again with its own infinity plunge pool. It also had steps straight down into the ocean, outdoor lounge area, two sun beds under a sun sail and a suspended hammock over the reef. Inside, the bathroom was probably a bit smaller (but by no means small) and the room was light and airy. The lounge had a glass panel in the wall so you could see the reef underneath the villa. All the villas have access to resort bikes which we made excellent use of getting around the island. It’s not big and you could just as easily walk but the sun is very strong so we found that we were more comfortable with the breeze that cycling generated. The resort itself is stunning. I couldn’t believe how exactly the reality matched my expectations when we arrived. We did get very lucky with the weather (33 degrees pretty much 24/7 and sunshine the whole time) but I feel that this place would be beautiful even if it rained. Be aware that some refurbishment is going on at the moment but we were not disturbed by this at all. All the restaurants and bars have their own unique style and feel. Food is very good, as are drinks but these are expensive (it has to be imported) and the service was, without exception, excellent. The water sports and diving is managed by Best Dives Maldives and the team there is brilliant. They offer all sorts of motorised and non-motorised water sports as well as scuba diving and PADI certifications. If you can, scuba diving is a must but snorkelling is a great second option. If you can’t snorkel then do try the semi-sub so you can get a glimpse of the amazing underwater wildlife of the house reef. The reef itself is pretty healthy and you can see all kinds of fish including reef sharks and also turtles. If you are snorkelling and you are a strong swimmer than go out to the reef drop-off where you can see bigger fish like Jacks, barramundi, barracuda and black tip reef sharks. The currents can be very strong so take care and never go alone. We had a wonderful stay and were so well-looked after by the staff. I’d like to mention in particular Azee, Nabeel (our host), Sama, Manoj, Valentina, Elza, Stephen, Emtiaz, Dhaadhaa, Tessa, Muga and Asrar at Samsara/B4r; Azufar, Hitesh and Kaushik at Swarna; Vivien, Chante and Laushan at the dive centre; and Anna and Fadetta at the spa.
