Our first trip to the Maldives and so glad we chose this most beautiful island. The greeting was fantastic, then taken to our wonderful deluxe villa, that view was Amazing! waking up to that each morning has been an absolute pleasure. All the staff were extremely helpful and friendly, Louisa the GM is doing a fantastic job and will hopefully never let the island change from it’s relaxed and chilled out vibe. I’ve never experienced food as varied and great quality in an AI holiday. Those curries were the best I’ve ever tasted ( I bought some curry mix to use at home to hopefully try to replicate them, not holding my breath though! The fish out on the reef were spectacular, snorkelling or even watching them just sat on the jetty or having lunch in the restaurant, even a ray swam past one day. All in all it’s been the most wonderful holiday and hopefully be back some day. Read less

Together with my lovely wife, I spent a 10-day vacation at Cooee Oblu at Helengeli Island during the Month of January 2020. Some keywords: Very green and well-maintained Island; fantastic house reef with thousands of colourful fish; very friendly staff; comfortable villas at the beach; nice restaurant with overwater terrace and excellent food; barefoot Island with fine sand in all areas including restaurant and bar. And now for those who like to read: You see already in the keywords that my review will be quite positive. Indeed, my wife and I are very happy about choosing Cooee Oblu and we can really recommend the resort. The reef. The most stunning thing is probably the house reef. It is very close to the beach, features plenty of tropical fish in all possible colour and size. During our stay, the sea current typically was westward. This means that you get in the water at the eastern part of the Island and let yourself float to the western end. During your voyage you can admire plenty of fish or shall I say they will admire you. Those fish are quite curious and swim up to you to have a look what kind of large animal is visiting them. We were lucky on several occasions and could see sea turtles and sharks. Keep calm, those sharks are not aggressive at all and with a size of some two meters they cannot eat you. The Island. Helengeli is a very green Island. It is extremely well maintained and a pleasure to walk through. The pleasure might be short due to the size of the Island but I guess that's one of the main reasons to choose the Maldives. Cooee Oblu is a barefoot resort which I really love. Everything is in sand including the restaurant and the bar. It gives a feeling of “zero constraints". Shorts are most welcome in the restaurant. You do not need to pack a lot of cloth. A hint for the Ladies: you do not need to pack fancy high heels, you will not be able to wear them except maybe in your own villa to pamper your husband. The villa. We used a Deluxe Beach Villa. I love the view, the outdoor daybed and also the outdoor bathroom. And yes, the bathroom is closed to all views. It is just great to take your shower under the open sky. The Villa is spacious, the beds are comfortable, we slept well. The staff. Wow! Very friendly, very helpful, always smiling. After a short while, people addressed me by name. I like. For me it looks like the staff really like to work here. The food. Mjamm, excellent. Very good quality, a lot of different dishes. Some spicy, some not spicy. Everybody will find something. Always fresh fish. You could say that you miss a nice steak but come on, this is the Maldives and there aren't a lot of cows on the Maldives. The restaurant itself is a beautiful building which integrates itself perfectly into the green and blue of the Island. The All-Inclusive Concept. Well, I can compare! We stayed already on other Maldivian Islands, for instance the Ozen, which is belonging to the same resort group. I will say a couple of words about Ozen a bit later. Comparing the all-inclusive offer, I can say, food wise, there is plenty. If you want you can eat all day long and gain a couple of kilos. After all we are on vacation, isn't it? The quality of food at Oblu is very similar to Ozen. I honestly say, the food is very good. What about the drinks? I would rate the Cooee Oblu drink concept very good whereas I would rate Ozen excellent. And I guess you got it: Ozen is more expensive. There, premium labelled alcohol is included. But let's come back to Oblu. You can enjoy a selection of different red, rose and white wines. There is, if I remember well, 4 different kinds of beer, several cocktails and champagne. Of course, different spirit alcohols including 4 different whiskeys, cognac and gin are available, too. You see, there is more than enough to get drunk. The real connoisseur looking for a rare scotch will choose Ozen. Oblu and Ozen. Well, Ozen is more luxurious compared to Oblu. Oblu, however, features the better house reef. It is a difficult choice. I like both. I think I have a small preference for Oblu. Remark that both Islands belong to the famous Atmosphere resorts, which by itself is already a guarantee for quality. Oh yes, I forgot to mention that both resorts feature a scenic spot for honeymooners which might be a bit more romantic at Ozen. You can take pictures and create a feeling to remember for a life time. Diving. Oblu features a dive centre. We used it for snorkelling excursions. Therefore, I cannot say anything about diving. But I can say that here, as well, the staff is very friendly and helpful. There are various staff members which all together speak plenty of foreign languages. Like on most Maldivian Islands, snorkelling equipment is complementary. The transfer. The transfer is done by speed boat and takes 50 to 60 minutes according to the condition of the sea. Don't you worry, you will not be sea sick. The best thing? Well, difficult. Everything was so nice. Ok, besides the fact of being there with my wife, the best thing was that I felt like the most important guest of the resort. Thank you Oblu! Anything negative? No not really! If you want, I could say that the gym is a bit old. But this is complaining on a high level. A gym on the Maldives? Yes, I use the gym. Call me crazy but I need this! At least a bit. For my taste, the machines are old-fashioned; I think I understood the resort is looking for a replacement. Yes, I might be spoiled. Anyhow, the gym is equipped with several machines and you can actually do plenty of things. You can stay in shape, even on the Maldives. A last word? Oh yes! Let's make it two last words. A huge thank you to the staff of Cooee Oblu. You made our stay unforgettable and we would love to come back. And, with a happy heart, I recommend this resort and give the full number of points! Thank you for reading and enjoy your stay on a small sand spot in the middle of the Ocean. Marc Read less
