The hotel

Sail into your holiday in style onboard a luxury yacht or speedboat. One&Only Reethi Rah, literally translating to ‘beautiful island’, has over six kilometres of spectacular coastline, bursting with white sandy beaches, blue lagoons and private coves. The resort is awe-inspiring too, sleek and sophisticated with private villas, some with pools, some discreetly spaced along the shore and others on stilts above the ocean. The service here is exceptional — even the sand is raked each morning so yours can be the first foot steps as you step out! Water sports are all the rage or grab your towel and head to one of two swimming pools. For absolute indulgence, a visit to the award-winning One&Only Spa is essential. And if you’re travelling with children, they can be kept busy at the complimentary kids and teen clubs. Dining is a joy at the One&Only Reethi Rah. You can eat in the privacy of your own villa, ordering delicious dishes from several of the restaurants, but it’s always nice to head out. Feast on Asian, Italian and French cuisine at Reethi Restaurant, Japanese delicacies at Tapasake or stunningly fresh ingredients at Botanica, an al-fresco dining venue. In the mood for a party? Rah Bar is lively until the early hours as is Fanditha with its boho-chic seaside setting including divan bolsters and colourful Arabian carpets in the sand.

You only have to read all the other reviews to know that thus is almost certainly the definitive resort. What is good? Nothing. What is world class excellent? Everything. The infrastructure is terrific, the landing dock where the beautiful motor yacht that's transported you from Male airport pulls in and on which you are met by "your" concierge (try to get Andrei, a caring, polite, multi-lingual, efficient, softly spoken with an almost mystical power that puts him right by your side just at the moment you had a question or request.) - is beautifully situated. The beaches; the sand; the constant but subtle support from the beach staff; the water - oh the water! Turquoise, warm, shallow, clear as glass. The efficiency of the buggy transport system, in seven days we never had to wait more than a few minutes, the vehicles looked as if the were valeted every night. The food - absolutely breathtaking quality, choice and freshness. Half a dozen Restaurants any of which would be worth a thirty minute drive from your home.. Breakfast is right up there with The Oberoi in Delhi or The Kempinski in Istanbul. Senior Executives aren't hidden away; the GM's around at breakfast every day, as you leave and several times in between; the Resort Manager; the Head Chef etc., etc. available and, apparently genuinely interested in your opinions. Every, uniquely in our experience, every member of staff is charming, caring and clearly working to make your stay perfect. The diminutive greeter at breakfast, the waiters bar-staff and sommeliers, all just great. I could go on but you get the drift - if there's anything I've missed be sure it was perfect - the Kid's facilities were reported to be terrific; a snorkel visit to see (many, many) turtles was accompanied ed by a marine biologist or two. Entertainment - an acoustic guitar, singer/songwriter (Sam Brittain) who played gently most days could have graced The Bluebird Cafe in Nashville - oh wait - he has - super. And on and on ---- thank you all. Read less

After spending 16 days here, this is my summary. So, is it expensive? You probably can already judge that yourself by seeing the prices of the villas. Yes, they know how to charge for things. After spending 16 days here, this is my summary. So, is it expensive? You probably can already judge that yourself by seeing the prices of the villas. Yes, they know how to charge for things. Is it worth it? Every single cent, yes, and more. I had read a lot of reviews on this island resort and the general consensus is that it’s the best holiday you will ever have. I simply could not find anything in all our time here that would make me feel any different. This experience has probably ruined every future holiday we have, because no previous holiday comes close to what we experienced from the moment we arrived. Everyone knows your name. Everyone, without exception, goes out of their way to make sure you feel like the most important guest here. It’s just so surreal. Special thank you to Jan, the general manager of the whole resort. Never have I met a nicer, friendlier gentleman as he. You can see why every member of his staff give 110%. And Mahmoud, our concierge. What a guy to have looking after your every wish. He makes your every request his mission. This whole experience is hard to put into words. It’s as if you are in a virtual reality world looking at someone’s imagination as to the prettiest and most perfect vacation island to ever exist. It really is that beautiful. We ate in every restaurant, every meal was our favourite. The buffets are exceptional. The sheer quality of the food and chefs will astound you. Everyone takes so much care and pride in what they do, no matter how small, or big, their roll is in delivering perfection every single time. If I was forced to pick one, then our favourite restaurant was Botanica purely because of the sheer enthusiasm of the team and ethos of the restaurant. We had a private beach dining experience where I proposed to my girlfriend. From the rose petals along the sand to our love cabana, the photographer and the violinist, that experience alone was enough for her to say yes! Kids Only Club. Our daughter who was 3 years old pretty much demanded to go after breakfast every morning. We would let her stay for an hour or so. The staff are so amazing and so creative with the children. We have a suitcase full of pictures and crafts and our daughter has head full of memories. She was so upset to say good bye. The Spa, just need to say jaw dropping wow. Go find some pictures and you’ll understand. I was concerned that we may be bored stuck on an island for over 2 weeks, but could not have been more wrong. The time here goes so fast but at the same time, you lose all track of time. What you did 2 days ago seems a distant memory. And trying to remember when you actually arrived, forget it. The whole island is impeccably clean. The villas are like a show stopper after every morning and each evening with the turn down service. Room service is possibly the best selection of dining I have ever seen. Always delivered on 30 minutes, and never once any complaints. Like I said at the very beginning, it’s expensive. And I can understand why 60% of first time visitors return. We will be returning, next year for our wedding. You would want to return too, even if you had to forfeit a whole years holidays just to come back here every 2 years. Or had to cancel the new car for a while. Any sacrifice you need to make, you would. It really is that good. Read less
