One&Only Reethi Rah

Maldives, Indian Ocean

The hotel

Sail into your holiday in style onboard a luxury yacht or speedboat. One&Only Reethi Rah, literally translating to ‘beautiful island’, has over six kilometres of spectacular coastline, bursting with white sandy beaches, blue lagoons and private coves. The resort is awe-inspiring too, sleek and sophisticated with private villas, some with pools, some discreetly spaced along the shore and others on stilts above the ocean. The service here is exceptional — even the sand is raked each morning so yours can be the first foot steps as you step out! Water sports are all the rage or grab your towel and head to one of two swimming pools. For absolute indulgence, a visit to the award-winning One&Only Spa is essential. And if you’re travelling with children, they can be kept busy at the complimentary kids and teen clubs. Dining is a joy at the One&Only Reethi Rah. You can eat in the privacy of your own villa, ordering delicious dishes from several of the restaurants, but it’s always nice to head out. Feast on Asian, Italian and French cuisine at Reethi Restaurant, Japanese delicacies at Tapasake or stunningly fresh ingredients at Botanica, an al-fresco dining venue. In the mood for a party? Rah Bar is lively until the early hours as is Fanditha with its boho-chic seaside setting including divan bolsters and colourful Arabian carpets in the sand.

A family of three that I work for recently spent a week at this location. The reviews below are from the two children. 12 year old boy: There was a variety of activities to do on the island. The staff was extremely nice. There were so many small commodities that make a big difference, like having bikes and buggies available. These make what's already good even better. The villa itself is the perfect size. It's not too big or too small. It was perfect for us. Outside of the villa, it was amazing being able to jump straight into the water. It's freeing. And there was a beach close by, plus bikes right outside to help us travel around. The beach club was super cool with the ice cream stand. It was so nice to be able to order food and drinks and use the jet skis and sea bubs and go waterskiing and have extra water activities available, too. There was also a floating play area in the ocean. The beach was super clean and huge. 9 year old girl: The food was delicious, especially the Italian and Japanese foods. The interior of everything was obviously carefully designed and all the extra details really showed. There were so many activities available, especially for us kids to play with. Improvements to suggest: Thai and Chinese foods could have been better. Wish there were more options of floaties for kids to use in the ocean. Read less

I'm quite well traveled and have already visited the Maldives 2 years ago but stayed at a different island which too was superb, but I must say this One & Only really does live up to its name. Superb accommodation, food, service and settings. Would not hesitate to go back again

Truly, I do not know where to begin in how to describe our experience other than to say I fear future vacations are sure to sadly pale in comparison to the magnificent experience we had while celebrating our 25th anniversary at the One & Only Reethi Rah. This was our first trip to the Maldives and it was even more stunning than we imagined. Americans of a certain “vintage” will note that the One & Only seems to have created its very own version of the 1970’s hit TV show “Fantasy Island” complete with guests arriving by seaplane or yacht with members of the resort management waiting on the dock to personally greet you upon arrival. We were simply impressed from arrival to departure with every aspect of the service. Our over-the-water villa was just as we had dreamt of, and we marveled watching a group of dolphins swim along at what was hard to decipher between sea and horizon each morning. Sunsets were equally stunning; with the surroundings so tranquil and quiet it was almost an evening spiritual experience to behold. In the evenings, star gazing becoming a nightly ritual. The resort was absolutely gorgeous and we wanted for nothing all week long. We loved our bicycles and spending time exploring the island on our own. Our concierge, Oni, was just a delight and made our week-long stay so special, especially our last night when she arranged a private dinner on the beach for anniversary which brought tears to my eyes. Like Oni, every member of the staff exemplified fine hospitality and is truly at the heart of what makes this resort so incredibly special. We also enjoyed many wonderful excursions on the water including snorkeling with the sea turtles and manta rays, jet skiing with dolphins to a sunset cruise for two on a luxury catamaran. All of these experiences were wonderful with phenomenal crews that made sure we were safe, comfortable and enjoyed every moment. In addition, my husband, an avid diver, enjoyed several outings with an outstanding dive master, Ash. The food in all of the outlets is masterfully conceived, presented and prepared as was their entire food/beverage operation. The buffets are lovely, especially the breakfast. We really loved all of our dining experiences, but Botanica was one of our favorites. The manager there was clearly so proud of their farm-to-table approach to dining with a vast organic garden supplying much of their produce and cooking techniques utilizing open flame vs electric or gas sources. If I had to make one recommendation, I do think they could use one additional outlet open for lunch during busy season. The spa is heavenly, but again, I do think they could expand upon some of their offerings beyond massages and facials perhaps utilizing the healing techniques of Southeast Asia as a guide. Though it was the spring/busy season and the resort at capacity, we never felt it busy or overcrowded at all. Yes, this is a top-notch luxury resort with every lush corner as Instagram-worthy as its clientele. But it is the water and beaches that are truly breathtaking- something I will never forget and now that we are home I long to again be enveloped in the silky warm blue waters of the Indian Ocean. I cannot recommend this property enough, and with global warming affecting the coral reefs and waters here and so many places in the world, Maldives Islands should certainly be moved to the top of everyone’s bucket list and soon!
