Just returned from a 12 night stay. A lovely place to be when it’s cold and wet back home. The staff here are polite, friendly, and very attentive. The food and drinks are ok. Some days are better than others, but you could always find something to enjoy. Drinks often took an age to arrive. The dining room chairs were dirty with bird pooh and the tables weren’t particularly clean. The sun beds desperately need cushion pads and if you didn’t get up early, you wouldn’t get one. My room was small but adequate but was looking a bit shabby. The bedding however, was spotless. My issue was with housekeeping. The first 2 days were fine but the bathroom wasn’t cleaned properly for the most of our stay. We had clean towels but the sink wasn’t cleaned. It wasn’t a major problem, but more than once, I had to contact reception. They did sort out my concerns very promptly. The mini bar wasn’t fully replenished and our replacement cups were not particularly clean. I’m not moaning at all but the cleaning is important to me. The hotel was almost at full capacity, but that shouldn’t be an issue. The beach was lovely and you can use boats and pedalos for free. The guys here are lovely. Beach towels were fresh and clean. The girls in the spa are delightful and the Italian restaurant was very good. Don’t be put off staying here. It isn’t perfect but it could be. Would I visit again? Not sure. Read less

Great place - on the beach! Good for beach swimming as further up the coast the sea was very shallow! No sea weed! Good water sports included in the resort all inclusive. Food was excellent in Buffett and the Italian waiter service restaurant - plenty of vegetarian dishes / Currys and fresh local fruits. Local beer was great some wines were good some just ok! Fridge and kettle in room replenished Dailey with beer, coke, lemonade and milk with choc bars and crisps nice touch. Good sized clean air conditioned rooms. All rooms seam to have a sea view so don’t do as we did and pay for a guaranteed sea view as the only extra you will get is nearer the activity’s and a bigger room. But they are all big! (Some people may like to be further away from the main restaurant) All rooms are opposite the beach were the beach sun beds are. And yes be prepared to get up early every morning to secure your sun-bed! By 7am they all have towels on them! Around the Lovey swimming pools there are notices unattended beds after 45min towels and belongings will be removed but we never saw that In Forced! Good spacious bar and entertainment was mixed lots of local themed dancers singers but there was always a seat or a quiet area. The bar was table services always! And was hit and miss sometimes a long wait. Staff all spoke English and was very helpful and friendly. The beach is also a public beach with stay dogs which were no trouble and local trade sellers selling trips, bags hats local crafts etc. Didn’t use the spa it was expensive. Nice shop on site Afternoon tea everyday was interesting local foods and the odd scone, jam and cream ummmmmm Read less

Lovely speed boat trip down the coast with Mcloud’s team. We had read previous reviews and met the man himself near the Coral bar. The weather looked fine as we set out Inside the reef mostly calm. Outside the reef on the journey there and back a bumpy ride but expertly handled by the crew. First highlights were seeing and feeding the monkeys up the river and the waterfall. We then went snorkelling and visited the light house island - seeing a brief glimpse of some dolphin fins. Then onto the nature reserve island for a swim and a view of some shy giant turtles. We then went to a beach near the Iles de Cerfs golf course for an excellent lunch of chicken, lobster, prawns and garlic bread with pineapple and baked banana. Nice touch was an anniversary cake for two of our English party. We then went round the other side of the island to a public beach where there a bar. We really loved the trip and well worth the cost. This is a very nice resort, managed and run without exception by caring, attentive and very polite staff who could not do enough for you. Wifi is available throughout the resort and worked fairly efficiently in most areas. The grounds are very attractive and are groomed regularly. There is a nurse on site 10 hours a day – free of charge to visit. Despite what you may have read we found there was ample shade under umbrellas on the beach and around the pool. Accommodation: We had a courtyard room which was small but quite adequate and had everything you would need but the room, like the resort was a little tired. The air-con, TV and fridge worked efficiently. Mini bar bas replenished daily. Room lighting consisted of two bedside and two spotlights at the middle of the headboard which were not switched individually. Bathroom consisted of a very efficient shower, toilet and hand-basin. The hot water was supplied by solar power which could be a little temperamental at times which resulted in occasionally boiling the kettle for hot water to shave. Towels were changed daily but wash flannels were supplied intermittently. Restaurants: There are two all-inclusive restaurants with the main one being self-service for breakfast, lunch and dinner. It was necessary to book other Italian restaurant for evening dining but lunch time it was walk in table service dining. The food in the buffet restaurant was generally of a high standard but was dominated by curry, chilli and often spiced mixed vegetables – got caught out a few times by hidden chillies in the food!! There was always a fairly good choice of dessert (cakes and fruit) but at lunchtime there was never any ice cream available to compliment the fruit or cake. Breakfast choices were very good and included an English breakfast option, fruit, yogurt, various breads and pastries. Only complaint is that the water served at all meal times was never cold, even the water from the water machine was never cold. Both restaurants could have benefitted from some form of air-conditioning or more efficient ceiling fans. There was an additional ‘al la cart’ restaurant on the beach (not included in the all-inclusive package). Drinks: The main pool bar provided a very good range of drinks, in fact we felt the choice of drinks was better than other all-inclusive hotels than we have previously visited – the beer, wine and brandy were particularly good and not forgetting the very good freshly made coffee. The one issue here was the amount of time it took to get drinks served – ordering drinks directly from the bar was discouraged. There were usually 2 – 3 people working the bar, 3 – 4 white shirt staff ‘supervising’ at the bar and 2 – 3 blue short staff taking drinks orders. The orders were noted on paper and taken to the bar – these same waiters continued to take orders elsewhere in the bar/pool area – eventually going back to the bar to start delivering he drinks to the individual tables – this process often took more than 15 minutes to complete!! We never could quite understand what the white shirt staff sere actually doing most of the time. Sports Activities: The water sport centre was excellent with paddle boats, canoes, small sailing boats, Hobie Cats, windsurfers and pedalos – something for everyone. What was difficult to understand was why the siling was restricted to a couple of hours around high tide. Each day there was aerobics and water polo in the pool. Personally it is felt that most hotels have a few shortcomings but that aside we would seriously consider returning to the Ambre hotel at a future date. Read less
