Emeraude Beach Attitude

Mauritius, Indian Ocean

The hotel

As the Mauritian drinks cart rolls up to serve you cooling cocktails, while you sink your feet into the white sands of Belle Mare beach after a dip in its turquoise lagoon, you’ll know you’ve arrived in paradise. In fact, it’s so jaw-droppingly gorgeous here, they’ve now reserved Émeraude Beach Attitude exclusively for grownups. As much as you could spend every waking moment on the beach, there’s plenty more fun in store – whether you want to linger at the seaside with snorkelling, scuba diving, and glass bottom boat trips, or you prefer swimming in one of its two tropical pools. But it’s the authentic touches that really make this place unforgettable, from the island-inspired treatments at Spa Attitude to once-in-a-lifetime experiences like dining with islanders in their homes, and learning to make Mauritian curries with their local chef.

Stayed here for 10 nights and really enjoyed. The rooms and food are all above what you might expect for what you pay ... it's not 4 or 5 star..... but what makes this hotel different are the people...they are fantastic from breakfast to last drinks and from first reception until leaving....a pleasure to get to know them and spend time there. Had a lovely evening with Chef Sachin and wife Reshma at their home...really recommend. I had a very small issue with my room but it was resolved extremely quickly by the Housekeeping Manager who then checked back with us to ensure all was ok. The staff also showed great patience with a single group of guests that appeared a little more demanding than most!! The relaxed atmosphere at the hotel means that we met some lovely fellow guests. The beach is stunning. We never really had an issue with beds at pool or beach...if you want a place with rows and rows of sun beds ruining the natural beauty, this isn't it. Tips..... Rent a small car if you are happy to drive on the left and take some care on the busy roads.... Most of the tour destinations are free or accessible at low cost.... I'd recommend Pingouin who delivered to hotel and were no fuss. The street food stall at the hotel is brilliant. The beach bar trolley is not always staffed as the numbers are low, but don't complain....just walk to the hotel bar... You need the excersise and it's two minutes. Blue Bay is a must. We enjoyed visiting the Horse Racing which is really low cost if you just buy a grandstand ticket at the gate. The Picnic basket is great if you are out for the day with it's own Tiffin tin. I see the reviews about the food being similar on most nights... We didn't find that, but remember that the hotel is small and needs to deal with loads of dietary rules for people at a budget...that impacts the range that can be served. Thanks again to the 'Family' at the hotel.... We'd love to visit again and very much more so that the stuffy upmarket hotels we saw that appeared to have no soul or warmth. Read less

The staff can not do enough for you to make your trip a happy and relaxing one. Would highly recommend this hotel food and drink was good (miss our 11am pinacoladas at the pool) The beach is so pretty we never had any problems gettings a sunbed at the beach or at the pool. We hired a car to go out and explore the staff helped us arrange this and the company they put us in touch with was wonderful to. We arrange excursion to ile aux cerfs you just tell reception and its arranged (no waiting for it to be done you ask and its done) On the last day i used the spa i paid 2500 rupees for a 90 min massage it was so calming and relaxing would highly recommend treating yourself very worth the money and the little spa cabin is very pretty. Already planning a return to this beautiful hotel and island Thank you to all the staff especially Reena who unfortunately we didnt get to say good bye to properly. We both thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The staff were highly accomodating start to finish. The room had basic facilities, I quite enjoyed the use of blinds in the room to maximise light in a east facing room that didn't have too much evening light. The cleaner did a wonderful job each day left the room spotless with fresh towels and fresh drinks in the fridge that were included in the inclusive package. The shower always had hot water and was spacious really clean and looked modern Food in both restaurants were very good. I was extremely pleased with the quality. For picky eaters the choice could be a bit better, for myself I had no problems and loved it all. The lamb curry was a particular highlight for me and the creme brulé. The bar served local spirits and drinks. They gave generous portions in spirits and I often woke up feeling worse for wear. The bar area was made on a artificial beach area which is quite fun and quirky but still under cover which protects from the odd shower. WiFi in the bar and reception areas is quicker than my broadband at home so sky home broadband take note please! The glass bottom boat I have to point out which is a free hour trip took us to the best snorkel spot of the whole trip after catamaran trips etc I left this untill last which I regret. I would have gone out each day on this little trip. Fortunately we booked and no one else did so we had our own little private boat out to the Reef. Special mention goes to Vicky one of the restaurant and bar staff. He was a smiley happy character, that made us laugh. Always kept the glass topped and recommended the best food. We was very disappointed when he was off Ill cause we looked forward to be served by him. All the staff were fantastic throughout the whole holiday and will have made this particular trip very memorable! Read less
