The hotel

As the Mauritian drinks cart rolls up to serve you cooling cocktails, while you sink your feet into the white sands of Belle Mare beach after a dip in its turquoise lagoon, you’ll know you’ve arrived in paradise. In fact, it’s so jaw-droppingly gorgeous here, they’ve now reserved Émeraude Beach Attitude exclusively for grownups. As much as you could spend every waking moment on the beach, there’s plenty more fun in store – whether you want to linger at the seaside with snorkelling, scuba diving, and glass bottom boat trips, or you prefer swimming in one of its two tropical pools. But it’s the authentic touches that really make this place unforgettable, from the island-inspired treatments at Spa Attitude to once-in-a-lifetime experiences like dining with islanders in their homes, and learning to make Mauritian curries with their local chef.

This might be quite long but bear with me. I have given this 5 stars for a number of reasons, there are a few negatives as well but I'll get to them. The good bits - fantastic staff, our room maid Talita was lovely, kept the room spotless and did the best ever towel sculptures. Ouma in reception was always really helpful. In the restaurant, Jimmy, Sarita, Ryan and Navin were great but absolutely fantastic was Vicky. On the glass bottomed boat King was super. So the rooms and people were fantastic, for us the location was perfect (not too busy) and the beach out of this world. The snorkelling from the glass bottomed boat was ace and even off shore if you were patent and looked carefully there were a lot of different fish. Food was OK reasonable choice but small negative, the local birds got in and don't think it is very hygienic with them sticking their beaks in the sauces. That could be improved. Another slight negative is the ridiculous but seemingly compulsive towel reserving...not much can be done about except maybe putting up another row of sun parasols. In terms of space the bar was full every night but don't see how this could be changed. Unless the Kot Nou area was used at night. One bit of space that wasn't used was the waiting area for the spa...an outdoor chess area would be so much better. In two weeks I didn't see a single person utilize the spa "waiting area". All in all great value for money and the wonderful staff really made it great. Read less

We arrived for a 2 week stay at the beginning of February after. We were looking for a small, friendly hotel that offered an authentic Mauritian experience and have not been disappointed. We had a spacious, clean first floor room with a very comfortable bed and balcony. The pool and bar areas are always well serviced with drinks served both there and at the beach. The friendly, warm, attentive Staff are what makes this hotel special. As others have said there are too many to mention but I would like to single out sammy for being a true gentleman. Also Varsha and Vicky always had a smile and a welcome. This hotel was exactly what we were looking for. Two weeks away from it all in a relaxed, comfortable, informal environment with fantastic service. Read less
