LUX* Belle Mare & Villas

Mauritius, Indian Ocean

The hotel

After a makeover by London designer Kelly Hoppen, this hotel is the epitome of cool, occupying a dream location overlooking a pristine stretch of beach washed by sparkling azure waters. It’s also home to one of the island’s largest swimming pools, take a dip or treat yourself to a fresh, low-fat ice cream packed with island fruits from the 'ici' vendors. You'll also find some quirky LUX* touches, such as their own blend of coffee roasted on site, a pop-up restaurant and the beach cinema. LUX* Belle Mare offers a range of suites & private villas to tempt you, all beautifully designed. Upgrade to a Pool View Junior Suite overlooking the swimming pool or to a Romantic Junior Suite for a quieter location. For a really special occasion, the Honeymoon Suite is nothing short of sublime or if you’re travelling with the children the Family Suites are very spacious. It’s the little touches here that make all the difference, a British red phone box, for example, a novel way to call home! Exciting amenities include an impressive list of water sports with probably something new to try every day of your holiday. As for restaurants, you’ve several to choose from. MIXE specialises in worldwide cuisine, whilst at Amari by Vineet, you can enjoy Indian delights fit for a maharajah.

The spa is nice & relaxing with an outdoor heated pool/jacuzzi, cold plunge pool, sauna & steam room. The food & beverage prices were much higher than the 5 star hotel we had transferred from in the south of the island e.g a small Phoenix beer was MR250 (£6) whereas at the Heritage it was MR170. The dinner buffet was very good but at MR2350 (£57) per person excluding drinks was not value for money. Even so the All Inclusive package, which we were quoted €270 (£245) per night to upgrade, would not have been financially worthwhile for us as our spend worked out at an average £126 per night. Even on AI the Amari restaurant only gave a 30% discount, so not everything is included on the AI package. You would need to enjoy some serious lunches & drink a lot more than we did to make the AI package worthwhile although I accept it takes the worry of how much you are spending away. Housekeeping a bit haphazard. Note they provide Nespresso capsules in the room but not instant coffee granules. Read less

The Indian fine dining Amari by Vineet gets 9/10, my wife was a little disappointed with the presentation of the food. But the food was extremely good. We had massages at the spa and it was really disappointing, the masseuses just used a lot of oil and rubbed it on the skin. It seems like they don’t know how to massage so they get only 1/10. But do use spa facilities when you are there which was great. Read less

I'm not going again and would not recommend this hotel. I could not sleep at night with lizards hissing loudly and could even see it crawling on the walls and the ceiling in the room. I'm so terrified when I see them. And if you are going for the beach, it's better to choose some other hotels. It's cold and windy and only about 50m to swim. Out of… Read more

Our wedding in Mauritius was everything we dreamed of and more. We decided on the Lux Belle Mare based on recommendations, reviews and our own research and we definitely were not disappointed. Planning a wedding abroad in itself can be difficult, however from the first contact we had with our Events Coordinator (Jennifer) over the phone whilst in London, the whole process was smooth and controlled. From the moment we landed and arrived at Lux Belle Mare, Jennifer took us in her arms and guided us every step of the way...including our wedding party of 20. Special thanks also to Luxmi and Anwar. We always met Luxmi with a smile, who assisted us with the wedding planning, where nothing was ever too much to ask. Her calmness and smiles, kept our nerves in tact. Anwar (Head of Security) was simply incredible! On top of an official wedding ceremony, we were keen to also have our nikkah on the same day - and voluntarily Anwar arranged the whole Nikkah, making all relevant arrangements and guiding us each and every step of the way, in making it all happen- we really cannot thank him enough ! All Lux staff we encountered as part of our wedding -were great. Our Chef (Amari restaurant) created a bespoke dinner menu for us- which was scrumptious, Ravin (F&B manager) quietly made sure all the dinner settings and servings went like clockwork- which we are grateful for. The Lux accommodated all our requests from having a Champagne night at the Beach Rouge (lovely bar) for the men and private dining followed by mehndi night for the ladies in the conference room. And we sure did party ! We had our ceremony in the most romantic spot in the resort- the gazebo, followed by drinks and canapés in the garden and topped with dinner on the beach in a private Bedouin tent with a spectacular dance floor- it was all so perfect for us !! So following a Wedding, 40th birthday, we had two surprise proposals amongst our wedding guests...that is the effect of the Lux! Needless to say...we would recommend Lux ! Read less
