LUX* Belle Mare & Villas

Mauritius, Indian Ocean

The hotel

After a makeover by London designer Kelly Hoppen, this hotel is the epitome of cool, occupying a dream location overlooking a pristine stretch of beach washed by sparkling azure waters. It’s also home to one of the island’s largest swimming pools, take a dip or treat yourself to a fresh, low-fat ice cream packed with island fruits from the 'ici' vendors. You'll also find some quirky LUX* touches, such as their own blend of coffee roasted on site, a pop-up restaurant and the beach cinema. LUX* Belle Mare offers a range of suites & private villas to tempt you, all beautifully designed. Upgrade to a Pool View Junior Suite overlooking the swimming pool or to a Romantic Junior Suite for a quieter location. For a really special occasion, the Honeymoon Suite is nothing short of sublime or if you’re travelling with the children the Family Suites are very spacious. It’s the little touches here that make all the difference, a British red phone box, for example, a novel way to call home! Exciting amenities include an impressive list of water sports with probably something new to try every day of your holiday. As for restaurants, you’ve several to choose from. MIXE specialises in worldwide cuisine, whilst at Amari by Vineet, you can enjoy Indian delights fit for a maharajah.

We visited the Lux in the February half term. Lots of children around during this time (obviously) which isn't an issue for us as we too had children; 4 and 8. The resort itself is beautiful and the room was well equipped. We did struggle with the aircon, not being able to have it lower than 26 degrees. We do like to have a bit of respite from the hot sunshine in our room but were unable to! The only restaurants with aircon were fully booked. The main buffet restaurant was great with a lot of choice but again if you like some respite from the humidity you might struggle! Dave deserves a special mention as he made our lunches very enjoyable. The icecream is lovely! A real treat for the kids! Entertainment was good. The kids club was air-conditioned. Good respite for the kids. My 2 tried it once but it wasn't for them- maybe a bit too structured. I did observe them barking at the children to sit down and sit still until the next activity began and they looked a bit miserable. Please be aware that if travelling with children the UV here is intense! Our son got badly burnt even after being smothered in factor 50! He then got badly ill 4 days in and we cut our holiday short and came home! It is a lovely resort. Read less

We had a great time and this is of course because it’s the amazing staff, the wonderful surroundings and the perfect villa that we stayed at. They made our stay very ‘baby-proof’ since we brought our 1 y/o daughter. The staff were very kind to us and helpful! Butler Mahen and nanny Lalita made our vacation unforgettable!

Myself, my wife and our 3 year old visited this resort late January of this year. Firstly, the resort itself. It feels big (i.e lots to do) but cosy at the same time and did not feel crowded at all. The beach is absolutely amazing..white sand and the water is crystal clear and lukewarm! This was perfect for our three year old who was getting used to the water. The area is also blocked off so the waves are perfect for children and adults. The resort does snorkelling, bottomless boat tours and other water activities daily for free! This is great as you dont need any money if you have gone all inclusive. We wanted to venture out one day and the hotel organised a car for us the whole day. Check out the zoo, waterfall and hindu temple whilst you are in Mauritius. I also loved the rum area and the gentleman who serves you the rum was a delight to talk to. There are so many little hidden gems too like the wishing tree area which is brilliant for children and the spa area and cosy seats outside the main bar/swimming pool. We were treated impeccably from start to finish. Everyone greets you with a smile. The food was perfect. So many dishes to choose from! The buffet is the best i have had in the world. Every evening their is a different theme which kept things interesting. The resort also has three or four seperate restaurants to choose from. The cocktails and beers were great too! With or without a children this resort is perfect . They go out of their way to make you feel comfortable and are some of the nicest people i have met. We were given a few nice surprises as it was our anniversary. Special thanks to Suren,Mahen, Rao and Kishan who made our trip memorable. We will be back for sure Read less
