We stayed at the Oberoi in the north-west of Mauritius for 12 nights in July for our honeymoon. We had a fantastic time and would recommend the resort to anyone. We stayed in a "luxury pavilion" which is the base-level room and would suggest that it is enough for most people - I don't feel the additional cost for a private villa would be worth it, although perhaps in high season when it's busier a private pool would be a nice benefit. We were in room 312, looking out over the bay which was perfectly located. The resort is laid out very effectively so that it often feels like you're the only people there. Again, because we were there in the low season it was quieter than it could be, but I get the impression that it would always feel like this. The luxury pavilion was spacious with a large walk-in wardrobe and a great bathroom with a shower as well as a deep sunken marble bath. It was always very effectively cleaned, often with excellent little touches such as a screen cleaning kit left out one day when I'd left my laptop on the desk. The food is excellent across the two large restaurants. The main restaurant is a bit more formal and serves a good range of food, including plenty of local options. The more casual On The Rocks restaurant serves superb barbecue food. The lobster was a particular highlight. As well as the two main restaurants there's a much smaller, more intimate restaurant called The Gunpowder Room, which serves a set Japanese meal once a week and a set Creole meal twice a week. Both of these are highly recommended but make sure you book in advance! The final food option is the Herb Garden which serves an outdoor meal cooked in a fire pit underground once per week. Again highly recommended and if you've booked a half board rate all of these options are included. The hotel runs an excellent program of events, all of which are included in your room rate. Some highlights included rum tasting (many thanks to Amal, the bar tender who ran the rum tasting experience for us, who went above and beyond to ensure we got the chance to sample the whole range!) and the various water-based activities. The bar was great, and a really nice place to watch the sunset with a cocktail or two. My only issue with the resort is the cost of food and drink. It is all delicious and of a high standard, but it is extremely expensive and for the price I would expect more. It's not enough to knock it down to 4/5 but if Trip Advisor allowed half-stars I would have rated 4.5/5 for this reason. If you are willing to pay the price then you will have a fantastic time. Be prepared to spend at least £500 per person per week on top of a half-board room rate (at current exchange rates this was approximately the value of the hold they placed on my card at check-in and upon settling the final bill it turned out to be almost exactly accurate). All in all, a superb resort with fantastic service. You are guaranteed to have a great stay. Just be wary of the cost of food and drinks. Read less

The setting is superb (except that you can see the big ships coming into Port Louis anchored in front of the harbor in the distance), and the service is fabulous and very personal - even more so with the lower occupancy during the winter season. It's still perfect for bathing, with 27-28° in the sea, and being winter, it's dryer and more pleasant… Read more

Friendly staff, good food and dining in, warm welcoming, smooth check in and out, professional house keeping, many activities and sports activities. The price is also good comparing to other expensive hotel in Mauritius but not like Oberoi.

The changing a la carte breakfast menus are a recent change which are excellent and varied. All the restaurants continue to provide high end cuisine and the new executive chef, was also discussing proposed additional menus change. We are looking forward to our next holiday at the resort. It is a special place, and ‘Heart Felt’ service is definitely provided.
