The St. Regis Mauritius Resort

Mauritius, Indian Ocean

The hotel

A luxurious throwback to the colonial days when Mauritius’ sugar industry thrived, the all-suite The St. Regis Mauritius Resort’s rambling grounds, residential atmosphere, and bespoke furnishings create the feel of a Victorian sugar baron’s mansion. The exclusive St. Regis Butler Service sweetens your experience – they’ll pour your morning coffee, make your dinner reservations, and even unpack (and repack) your cases. The homely feel here doesn’t mean you forgo resort treats though: there are lovely pools, water sports and exquisite dining and drinking spots, from the Asian Floating Market to the beachside Boathouse and Grill. The UNESCO World Heritage site at Le Morne Mountain provides a befitting backdrop to the resort with some of the world's best diving and kite-surfing only moments away. Days are best spent on the hotel's white sand beach, one of the island’s best, with its iridescent lagoon. Press the buzzer on your parasol and your drinks and snacks will be delivered to your lounger! If you want to escape the sun, head for the hotel's air-conditioned indoor cinema with its reclining chairs — some of your favourite films shown every day!

This is a great hotel! We were there from 27 Dec into the beginning of January. The hotel was full and was also affected by a cyclone on one day (heavy rain and no swimming). Faced with those challenges, a lesser hotel would have buckled under the strain. The staff at the St. Regis continued smiling and were able to offer their usual service over those two difficult days. The Le Morne beach is lovely, the five restaurants are all very good, and the rooms are a good size, with very comfortable beds and well equipped bathrooms. The evening entertainment was good but could be better and more varied. Some of the staff were excellent: special praise for our butlers Pushpanjali and Archie, Nicholas in the Boathouse, and Deli in the spa who is an expert at massages. The gentleman who helped us sabre a champagne bottle was very helpful. Some others of the staff could benefit from some training to be more proactive, as service was sometimes patchy and inattentive. However, if a problem was mentioned, it was always sorted, which is a great start. Special thanks to the resort manager Dimitrios Kotsifakos. I have rarely if ever seen a hotel manager so present, active, and concerned about each guest. He was constantly in action, while developing contingency plans for the cyclone and always looking out for the welfare of everyone. An excellent head of a very special hotel. Read less

The suite was huge,at a guess 200 square metres, even had a pair of massage beds for in room massages! The balcony was a special feature,it was huge and it had an outside bed where you could relax and watch sunset The beach was as good as you get anywhere in the world and a special thanks to rickesh and axel for great service Lastly i need to mention the resort manager dimitri,he is an absolute gem,he really went out of his way to make this a memorable stay and i think 99 percent of resort managers globally could take a page out his book on how to run a 5 star hotel! See you guys in December! Read less

The food at each and every restaurant was fantastic. I especially loved the breakfast buffet. I received one of the best massages of my life in their lovely spa. Most wonderful of all was the hotel staff. I have never been treated so well at any other place that I have stayed. They were amazingly kind, courteous and attentive. I especially loved my thoughtful butler Kanan, my enthusiastic beach attendant, Arnaud, and my lovely dinner hostess Charlotte. I will never forget them. My stay here was heavenly. Thank you St. Regis for a wonderful holiday. Read less

We came back more because of the beach and the Kids club, which my daugther loved. The new General Manager, Dimitrios Kotsifakos, is doing an amazing job in improving the service quality. Staff is generally super friendly and professionial, in particular the team on the beach, the butlers and at the restaurants. Only the suites could be updated, they are a bit worn down... Interestingly, the wine & champagne prices decreased a bit (but are still a bit overpriced compared eg to the One&Only) Read less

The hotel is set in beautiful gardens. We loved our room overlooking the sea and beautiful beach of Le Morne. A totally gorgeous beach to stroll along and for the more energetic the Le Morne climb. Our first time in Mauritius, so much to see and do and well worth hiring a car. We found the food at this hotel, expensive and not always good. We didn't like the big pool because of all the children and were very disappointed to find the smaller pool away from the main pool was not adults only. Also very annoying the way guests put things on loungers to reserve them. Finally my biggest wish of this hotel would be to do something about the stray dog population - very distressing to see such cruelly treated and hungry animals wandering the sides of the roads.
