The St. Regis Mauritius Resort

Mauritius, Indian Ocean

The hotel

A luxurious throwback to the colonial days when Mauritius’ sugar industry thrived, the all-suite The St. Regis Mauritius Resort’s rambling grounds, residential atmosphere, and bespoke furnishings create the feel of a Victorian sugar baron’s mansion. The exclusive St. Regis Butler Service sweetens your experience – they’ll pour your morning coffee, make your dinner reservations, and even unpack (and repack) your cases. The homely feel here doesn’t mean you forgo resort treats though: there are lovely pools, water sports and exquisite dining and drinking spots, from the Asian Floating Market to the beachside Boathouse and Grill. The UNESCO World Heritage site at Le Morne Mountain provides a befitting backdrop to the resort with some of the world's best diving and kite-surfing only moments away. Days are best spent on the hotel's white sand beach, one of the island’s best, with its iridescent lagoon. Press the buzzer on your parasol and your drinks and snacks will be delivered to your lounger! If you want to escape the sun, head for the hotel's air-conditioned indoor cinema with its reclining chairs — some of your favourite films shown every day!

After cancelling and realizing that travel was not going to occur we formally asked for a refund in August of 2020. The resort then informed us it would take up to 90 days for the refund to take effect. Upon 90 days they informed us they were having cash flow issues. Several calls later to Marriott group the resort finally came back to us and said payment would be made by end of March. Here we are and still nothing. While they say they are having cash flow issues they have enough working capital to market in CondeNast Travel&Leisure, etc...This is so egregious that I will never stay at another St. Regis again. So much for a "Timeless Tradition." While everyone understands that COVID has had a massive impact on this industry the treatment, communication, explanation, and customer service received from the management team of this property has be abysmal!!! After > 6 years as a platinum SPG/Marriot member, in january 2019, we booked our wedding in St Regis Mauritius and signed a contract ~60000 €. We made our payments as agreed in the contract (24000€ in march). Due to corona we had to change our booking (always in communication and written confirmation and agreement with the hotel) several times. In the beginning of August the hotel informed us that THEY had to unfortunately cancel our booking. As part of that communication we were asked to maybe not cancel everything, but maybe change to a smaller flexible booking which they would be able to provide.... We finally changed to small a booking for me, my wife and our kid, worth ~8000€ we asked for a refund of the rest of the money (~16000) on the 7. of August. Till today we did not get our money. Instead we got several mails with excuses that the accounting department was not available etc. Beginning of September (6th) we were informed that the hotel would be closed till November and we had to cancel the booking for October - again with written confirmation of complete reimbursement for us - and again we did not get any money nor a communication for a date on which we can expect the payment till today. The hotel is not available via phone, mail or letter and my contacts to Marriot Bonvoy ended in an answer that is unfortunately not more than a bad joke: "the hotel is temporarly closed and as their is nobody working nobody can send the money" - next time I book with marriot and they ask for my payment I'll tell them that my bank guy is on sick leave an when he is back - they might get their money Read less

My husband and I visited St Regis Mauritius a while ago, but some friends have recently asked about our stay and I wanted to share more about what a wonderful experience we had! The scenery and grounds are insanely gorgeous and everyone is so kind! We have traveled extensively (45+ countries) and this was one of the most beautiful locations we've seen. Below are some tips to help as you're planning your trip! ROOM SELECTION--- I combed through reviews to decide between a upper or lower floor room. After going, I'd conclude that the upper floor is better if you have an Ocean View room and the lower floor is better if you have a Beachfront room. The upper floor offers more privacy (completely open your terrace windows for a direct water view with nobody passing your window). But if you are Beachfront, then you may as well be on the lower floor so you can step right out to the beach. And it's still private enough because the chairs are so spaced out. The beachfront would be great for families with kids- they can nap in the room while you sit right outside on your beach chair. All rooms seemed great! ACTIVITIES--- We had SO much fun swimming with the dolphins on a 2 hour excursion. This was so different from the captive dolphin swim excursion we did before. We literally jumped off the boat and swam with dolphins in the ocean!! We also had so much fun with the Water Sports Center activities- we water skied and used kayaks. We went to the spa a few times to use the jacuzzi, sauna, and steam room- it's such a beautiful atmosphere. The gym facilities are also great.   PLANNING AHEAD--- I'd recommend planning out your activities and restaurant reservations ahead of time as they do get booked up. And it was also just nice to not have to do any planning while there. I booked reservations for restaurants via email a week before. And we booked the dolphin swim upon arrival via the concierge. Water sports are booked the morning of.  FOOD--- Simply India  and Floating Market (Asian fusion) were our favorites- the latter had better ambience, the former better food. Anything with sauce and curry and fish were generally delicious. And the burgers for lunch were amazing. Room service was delicious and offered so many options. We did a special bbq event at the Boathouse (grill with ocean view) for dinner one night, which was also nice. We ate breakfast every day at Le Manoir (main dining venue). We discovered they have nearly all the same stuff for breakfast at the Boathouse if you want an adults-only water front option. Great ambience! TRAVEL-- We had a smooth arrival through Paris, and the hotel's Mercedes airport transfer is highly recommended! It was very pleasant drive and we learned more about Mauritius along the way. It's about a 1 hour 15 min drive, so you want to be careful. It's helpful to have printouts of your flight tickets while you travel, as you'll be asked a few times to present proof of onward travel. EXPERIENCE--- We had an amazing experience. Such friendly and kind staff. And I loved that they have a chat account so you don't have to call for stuff if you don't want to.   It's a really great property, definitely not "popping" if you're looking for more of that type of vibe- and that's the only downside. We did find ourselves getting a little restless at night, but it's a very isolated property so we had to make our own fun. However, it is beautiful and relaxing. I'd highly recommend it to any couple looking to get away!  Read less
