The St. Regis Mauritius Resort

Mauritius, Indian Ocean

The hotel

A luxurious throwback to the colonial days when Mauritius’ sugar industry thrived, the all-suite The St. Regis Mauritius Resort’s rambling grounds, residential atmosphere, and bespoke furnishings create the feel of a Victorian sugar baron’s mansion. The exclusive St. Regis Butler Service sweetens your experience – they’ll pour your morning coffee, make your dinner reservations, and even unpack (and repack) your cases. The homely feel here doesn’t mean you forgo resort treats though: there are lovely pools, water sports and exquisite dining and drinking spots, from the Asian Floating Market to the beachside Boathouse and Grill. The UNESCO World Heritage site at Le Morne Mountain provides a befitting backdrop to the resort with some of the world's best diving and kite-surfing only moments away. Days are best spent on the hotel's white sand beach, one of the island’s best, with its iridescent lagoon. Press the buzzer on your parasol and your drinks and snacks will be delivered to your lounger! If you want to escape the sun, head for the hotel's air-conditioned indoor cinema with its reclining chairs — some of your favourite films shown every day!

Everything feels very relaxed and overall there’s a pleasant feeling of space across the resort even when it’s busy. Special thanks to Hansley on the beach, Ravi our butler and Karoona in the housekeeping team who all looked after us exceptionally well. One note for hotel management to consider would be thinking how to better balance the needs of couples versus families as guests - as a couple, we were looking for quiet relaxation away from children at mealtimes but this didn’t seem to occur to the serving staff and we had to make an effort to request tables away from noisy children even when dining late by Western standards. Just returned from a relaxing 10 day full board break at St Regis. The room was great, bed and pillows comfortable and excellent raindrop shower/ bathroom and dressing/wardrobe area, with safe. We changed rooms to be nearer the main restaurants though younger guests would more easily manage the walk or catch the buggy when needed. All rooms are of a similar high quality overlooking the beach and garden, with an on call 'butler' service, whose staff were most attentive. We sampled all the restaurants, apart from the Japenese one, and found the staff most helpful, polite and attentive. The quality of food was generally very good and nicely presented, although we found it odd on a couple of occasions to be given rice and potatoes, but no reason for complaint. We varied our meal combinations on a couple of occasions which appeared to cause a bit of confusion for the kitchen staff but overall we were happy with the selection on offer and the quality, with just one beef choice not being as described or expected. We had to ask for the vegetarian options which were good. The buffet selection was wide, although we would have preferred to have had 'warmed' plates as the food soon got cold as we returned to our tables (often carried by a willing attendant staff member!). The beach and sea at this resort are probably the best on the Island, with plenty of loungers and attendants. You can walk into the shallow waters and spot fish around the coral, or swin out deeper, but water shoes are advisable as the sands and broken coral can be sharp under foot. The Resort itself offers some free water facilities - snorkling, glass bottom boat, canoes etc - however, other professionally supported water sports were available at a cost for the more adventurous. The management and staff were always present and always greeted guests with respect and offered help and support. We enjoyed the light jazz group on a couple of evenings but found the traditional drumming/singing entertainers a bit too loud and intrusive for us, and would have preferred it to be away from the dining areas. During our stay, there were also a couple of corporate events, one of which involved team building games at one end of the beach. We found the booming speakers of the facilitator unnecessary and an intrusion into the otherwise tranquil setting of the resort beaches. Fortunately we were able to move long the beach to minimise the noise. It was an unfortunate disturbance from which we hope the management will learn and require the organisers to restrict their speaker levels. Overall, it was a great place, superb staff and for us..a restful holiday. We look forward to returning at some time in the future, possible with the family as the resort has exceptional facilities for young children, and a well coming bucket and spade - a nice touch. Thanks to everyone! Read less

The st Regis hotel in le Morne is a very smart hotel with very attentive staff. We found them friendly and very helpful. The accommodation is very up market and the food is of a high quality. Saying that changing the a la carte menu now again would be better. It can get a bit samey after a few days even though there are four restaurants. It is classed as a five star hotel but in my opinion it would be lucky to hit four star. It looks nice from a distance but close up is a different story. For instance water draining away into the sinks Don’t drain properly, attention to detail in the shower is of a poor standard. Some of the communal toilets and showers do not work properly, things hanging off the wall and off the shower bars. I think the biggest thing that stood out was the cost of drinks especially if you’re on the full board deal. You could tell it was very expensive for everyone as there was hardly anybody in the bar area during the day and evening, and looked like they were struggling to get business. If they reduce their drinks to a sensible amount then they would be a lot busier and the place will be a lot more lively. That brings me onto another point, there is not a lot going on in the evening, and I know this may be due to the fact that it’s a family hotel but when they have special events on then they run the entertainment late into the evening, so what’s the excuse? Overall a good looking hotel with very good staff but I would not give this five star rating at all. We visited the spa on one occasion in the afternoon and must say that was very nice indeed. You can use it for as many times as you like which I think is a very good deal. The staff in there are very friendly and can’t do enough to help you. If you’re on the full board plan and you do need to buy drinks while you’re there, make sure you allow plenty of money as a glass of wine will set you back about £12.50. That’s just an example, as the cocktails are about £10-£15 each as well, but do not have much alcohol in them whatsoever. The beach staff were excellent as well and I would say they stood out more than anybody. We did enjoy the holiday though and the weather was perfect nearly every day. We would consider going there again but would look at the all-inclusive price next time . Read less

Where do I start…we have just returned home from 2 weeks here and I can honestly say it was simply perfect. I work as a Flight Attendant and have done for many years so have travelled the world and stayed in a huge number of hotels. The St Regis however is something very very special. We actually chose to have our wedding here as we wanted a small intimate ceremony that we could share with our four year old son and have a fantastic holiday along with it. The resort is absolute paradise – in terms of everything! The grounds are simply stunning. We had a junior suite on the ground floor looking out to the ocean, which was the most beautiful room I have ever stayed in. The view was like something from a postcard and being able to step out of our terrace onto the beach was something you only dream about. The grounds, the beach, the room, the restaurants, the toilets, were always kept incredibly clean. The staff work tirelessly to keep everything looking perfect. In a place like Mauritius I would imagine this is no easy task – due to the amount of greenery to maintain etc. Aside from the beautiful grounds, beach, pool and food the other huge asset to the resort is the staff. Being in the service sector myself I know how much of a difference it can make to a guests overall experience. The service we encountered on all levels was fantastic, I cannot praise the staff enough. From the cleaning staff to the management team they were all genuinely helpful and friendly. Nothing was ever too much trouble and always with a smile. Our wedding was taken care of by Jovanie the Wedding Co-ordinator and she was fantastic from start to finish. My wedding was everything I had hoped for and more, with absolutely zero stress along the way. She is highly organised and always kept great communication throughout. I wish I could re live the whole day all over again, it really was magical. Thank you Jovanie! Gary was our butler and I cannot praise him enough. He was very knowledgeable and went out of his way to make our stay special. His attention to detail is amazing and these are the little things that stay with you for a long time. Thank you Gary! Noor is the best pool boy at the resort. He made our pool days so lovely, always going that extra mile. Towels, glasses, drinks, fruit, and even a few little surprises nothing was ever too much trouble. And always always done with a smile. The most happy guy at the resort 😊 All of the ladies at the Iridium Spa were wonderful. I got myself ready here before my ceremony and they were all so lovely. I had the most relaxing time here with Angela doing my hair for me, she was great. Angela listened to what I wanted and created a beautiful hair style that held all day! Bhavish our waiter at our wedding dinner was fantastic. His service was lovely throughout the evening and he was fantastic with my 4 year old (who really took to him and asked through the rest of the holiday where is Bhavish Mummy!). If your children are happy then so are the parents! He even returned some of my sons toys that we left on the beach the following morning. Again, always going that extra mile. Navin was another staff member we encountered a number of times. He had a great little relationship with my 4 year old and took him for many rides on the buggy (Thanks Navin!) and always had a smile. These were a few that really stood out for us but all the staff are genuinely fantastic. From the moment we arrived and checked in, to the moment we left the resort everyone was amazing. Please pass on our sincere thanks to your lovely staff for making our wedding and holiday truly perfect. We hope to return for an anniversary one day! Read less
