The St. Regis Mauritius Resort

Mauritius, Indian Ocean

The hotel

A luxurious throwback to the colonial days when Mauritius’ sugar industry thrived, the all-suite The St. Regis Mauritius Resort’s rambling grounds, residential atmosphere, and bespoke furnishings create the feel of a Victorian sugar baron’s mansion. The exclusive St. Regis Butler Service sweetens your experience – they’ll pour your morning coffee, make your dinner reservations, and even unpack (and repack) your cases. The homely feel here doesn’t mean you forgo resort treats though: there are lovely pools, water sports and exquisite dining and drinking spots, from the Asian Floating Market to the beachside Boathouse and Grill. The UNESCO World Heritage site at Le Morne Mountain provides a befitting backdrop to the resort with some of the world's best diving and kite-surfing only moments away. Days are best spent on the hotel's white sand beach, one of the island’s best, with its iridescent lagoon. Press the buzzer on your parasol and your drinks and snacks will be delivered to your lounger! If you want to escape the sun, head for the hotel's air-conditioned indoor cinema with its reclining chairs — some of your favourite films shown every day!

From the moment we arrived, you all went out of your way to ensure we had everything we needed. Your kindness and genuine warmth and interest towards our little boy, blew us away. You truly made us feel at home and we can’t wait to return soon to this piece of paradise that you have created. You all made a huge impact on us and helped make it a wonderful and memorable holiday. We stayed at the St Regis for a couple of days and I have to say it was a combination of highs and lows. It began with a low as when we reached the hotel the security guard at the gate seemed to view us with suspicion and did not seem very enthusiastic to let us in ...However this soon turned Into a high as Hena who welcomed us was very charming and did her utmost to make us feel special. The room we were initially taken to was very nice with all amenities and really was to standard I expected. We however wanted a room closer to the beach and had paid for the upgrade at check in and were told it would not be available till much later . The ‘upgraded’ room was a different story and to be fair seemed more like a downgrade - albeit closer to the beach it was not as well appointed and the chairs outside on the terrace had not been properly cleaned - the butler we were assigned we never saw and when we did mixed up orders for the morning coffee we requested. Thanks to Hena we had seen the chef and requested burgers for dinner - we ate at the boathouse restaurant and Chef Rajeev did an amazing job - dinner was lovely! Chef Rajeev definitely deserves all our compliments :) Breakfast the next day was definitely a low - we wanted to make the most of the view and ordered room service to eat on the terrace - that was a true disaster!!! My husband ordered a bread basket and scrambled eggs and they arrived stone cold and bland - no salt and pepper on the tray to be had! So definitely a complete let down ! So all in all a series of ups and downs ! Read less

Travelling is the passion in our small family of five with two adults and three teenagers. Typically, we try various destinations four to five times a year. We read lots of reviews but rarely write them ourselves. However, the amazingly friendly and service-minded staff at St. Regis deserve our gratitude and compliments. Therefore, this brief review. In short, this was probably our best resort vacation ever. From the moment you arrive to the moment you leave, everything just clicks. Excellent restaurants, wonderful beach, unsurpassed climate (the coral reef is quite bleached though, like many other places around the world, regrettably). All facilities are new/modern and well-kept in the beautiful colonial style surroudings. Amazing views from the resturants. Wonderful to enjoy a cinema just with your Family, including drinks and popcorns. The butler service is pure pampering. A sabering champagne ceremony at the beach is unforgettable (thanks Savinha) - just to mention a few highlights. We simply cannot find anything that did not work. Mostly, however, we really appreciated the humorous, service-focused and friendly attitude of the staff. Before our stay, we read a lot of positive reviews and also a few less positive ones (which is always worrying). However, after staying at St. Regis I am sure that the less positive reviews properly reflect poor travellers. Sorry - but you do meet them all the time. Fortunately, we did not at St Regis :-). We can all recommend it 100%, and we will come back in the near future. Read less

The reception area itself was lovely. The suites so spacious and perfect for any type of stay (business, leisure, family or romantic). I do think some of the spaces could use a small upgrade but in general the resort is just beautiful and has the perfect blend of old and new ... The beach is so long and again just beautiful. Special thanks to Vick the butler who really went out of his way to look after me. He was amazing and also thanks to Hugo who was another very gracious butler. Read less

This is day 1 of my check in. Happy for the upgrade to a beachfront room. Ordering room service we selected the Asian breakfast. They didn’t have noodles so they gave fried rice. The food was awful. I could tell It wasn’t fresh, the rice was hard and without flavor. But they listened to my complaint and took care of my wife and I. Every morning without asking they served us complimentary noodles - fresh and with a smile. They also provided great service naturally. What was originally going to be a 2 star rating, they’ve recovered to a 5. Kudos on keeping the St Regis brand untarnished Read less
