The St. Regis Mauritius Resort

Mauritius, Indian Ocean

The hotel

A luxurious throwback to the colonial days when Mauritius’ sugar industry thrived, the all-suite The St. Regis Mauritius Resort’s rambling grounds, residential atmosphere, and bespoke furnishings create the feel of a Victorian sugar baron’s mansion. The exclusive St. Regis Butler Service sweetens your experience – they’ll pour your morning coffee, make your dinner reservations, and even unpack (and repack) your cases. The homely feel here doesn’t mean you forgo resort treats though: there are lovely pools, water sports and exquisite dining and drinking spots, from the Asian Floating Market to the beachside Boathouse and Grill. The UNESCO World Heritage site at Le Morne Mountain provides a befitting backdrop to the resort with some of the world's best diving and kite-surfing only moments away. Days are best spent on the hotel's white sand beach, one of the island’s best, with its iridescent lagoon. Press the buzzer on your parasol and your drinks and snacks will be delivered to your lounger! If you want to escape the sun, head for the hotel's air-conditioned indoor cinema with its reclining chairs — some of your favourite films shown every day!

We loved that you could walk out into the sea and snorkel straight away (sea shoes are a must) and the way the beach is set-up made it feel like you always had your own part of the beach. We loved the restaurants and were treated to a special chefs menu at the Indian restaurant. We could not praise the staff more for their incredible energy, enthusiasm and professionalism. They helped us correct a couple things at the start very quickly and continued to be wonderful throughout. We definitely got some rest and relaxation! I even saw hump back whales breach and splash around while sat on the beach - pure paradise. Read less

Last summer my wife and I had the most wonderful honeymoon experience. We hoped for an unforgettable stay during our 9-night stay, and boy did we get it. The resort is amazing, so clean and just beautiful. Our accommodation was as close to the water as you could get, we had a ground floor apartment with a sea view. The space we had inside was just amazing. The most enjoyable part of our stay was getting to know the staff at the hotel. They truly made our stay memorable. Every member of staff we interacted with had a huge smile and was always interested to hear about our day and giving us suggestions of places we could visit around the island. Even so, some stuck out because they went above and beyond which made the whole experience unforgettable. Our holiday would not have been the same without the friends we made in the employee's, who we looked forward to seeing each day, whether that was Micheal our housekeeper, Pushpanjali from the Butler team, Sandra in the kitchen and Pooja who did my eggs every morning, Shandish who made our days on the beach perfect, and in Le Manoir Varsha, Virginie, Rao, and Nitish. We ate 8 out of the 9 nights in Le Manoir because we loved seeing these people. There are many more who we met and enjoyed their company, but these people really had an impact on us. The food was always incredible, with much variety, including themed buffets in Le Manoir each night. Thank you to the incredible head chef and his team in the kitchen. The St Regis Resort for us was exactly the luxury holiday we had dreamed of, but the staff took it to the next level. Read less

I am not entirely sure where to begin to express our gratitude for such a wonderful experience at the St. Regis Mauritius We travel extensively as a family of 5 (kids 16, 13 and 10), and we were simply delighted with everything about our stay. Our travels have taken us to South Africa, France, Italy, Spain, Greece, Morocco, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, all over the Caribbean and all over the United States and Mexico. My husband is Titanium Elite with Marriott/Starwood for purposes of reference. We are never disappointed with the service at the St. Regis, and the St. Regis Mauritius exceeded our expectations.  For those who have not visited Mauritius before, it is an unbelievable tropical oasis. A few things to know (which we did not) before you visit. The travel time from the airport looks short; it is not. There are no highways and very few roads with more than 2 lanes. The travel time from the airport to the St. Regis is approximately 90 minutes. We arrived to a glorious greeting with a welcome drink and a great orientation of the resort and available services and restaurants. Our rooms were upgraded to oceanview. We had rooms 291 and 292, which connected into an enormous 2 room suite with tons of storage, extravagant bathrooms and lovely views of the ocean. The rooms looked new. Our amazing butler, Archi, greeted us and offered to unpack us and do whatever else we needed. We begged him to come to the U.S. with us, but his loyalty lies with the St. Regis Mauritius. He was so helpful, accessible and kind…..there are not enough compliments.  The rest of the staff was equally endearing. The hotel General Manager, Dimitri, greeted us upon arrival and was very visible during our entire stay. In fact, he seemed to be omnipresent, including checking in on my husband after a wasp sting and hosting us at the manager’s reception (a lovely event) on Thursday night, which included sabering champagne. The resort facilities are exceptional. The gym is excellent and well staffed and appointed. The kids club (which my kids could not use but did peek in on) is the nicest I have ever seen, and the staff literally looked like pied pipers with happy and enthusiastic kids in tow. There are 2 pools. The main pool is much larger and more majestic than the other smaller pool. It has 2 shallow areas for the younger ones, and it is located right by the beach and Boathouse Bar. The seats by the pool/beach were plentiful during our stay, and you can get lovely loungers that have a great view of the ocean and pool if you need to watch children. Those seats are also conveniently located near the water sports cabana, which includes more “included” sports than we even had time for. We did the paddle boats, paddle boarding (several times), and a snorkeling trip (which includes a ride on a glass bottom boat). There were other options as well, and there were additional trips that you could pay for with a surcharge. Everyone was very accommodating and kind. Now, for the food. Let’s start with breakfast. (Yes, we are foodies.) Oh my! We were not on the meal plan, as we had breakfast included due to my husband’s status. The meal plan looked interesting, but frankly, there is no way that we could eat that much. The breakfast that was included due to my husband’s status was located at the Boathouse Restaurant, overlooking the gorgeous beach and ocean. Adarsh greeted us every morning, along with the Boathouse team of Alvin, Lucinda and Sanjeet. There simply is no better service (along with the fabulous lunch team discussed below). The breakfast included an amazing plate of cheese and fruit, a selection of delicious baked goodies and then a menu of anything you could ever dream of: savory waffles, pancakes or french toast with Nutella or delicious maple syrup; any type of eggs and meat you could dream of. All of it is accompanied by sparking wine, juice, coffee, or anything else you can think of.  If breakfast was a highlight, than lunch was its equal. With views of the ocean and beach, we enjoyed the most amazing lunches. Imjar took care of our every need and even helped us create custom pizzas, including one made with shrimp, mushrooms and onions. It was simply delicious, and Imjar could not have been more attentive. Akash and his pizza team turned out pizza that rivaled anything we had in Italy. Even the food on the kids menu was amazing! The hotel also has a host of other amenities. We enjoyed the spa, which includes a sauna and steam room. There are also photography services available on site. The pictures came out beautifully and were very reasonably priced. The St. Regis team went the extra mile at every turn. For example, in one of the only missteps of our visit, my son’s kid’s steak came out chewy and undercooked. He decided to pass on it for the day. The next day at lunch, the chef sent out 4 amazing and perfectly cooked steaks. My carnivore son was beyond delighted, and it was a testament to the attention paid to each guest. Similarly, Adarsh decorated our breakfast table with flowers on our last day. And, if anyone needs another example, when my husband was stung by a wasp, Alvan came running with sliced onion, which apparently is the cure to the sting! Afterward, Kavish brought out onion with a vinegar solution to further assist.  In short (or as brief as I can be), the St. Regis Mauritius is an absolute delight. Dmitri is running an amazing resort with staff that should be commended for exceeding all expectations of excellence. Read less
