Avani Seychelles Barbarons Resort & Spa

Seychelles, Indian Ocean

The hotel

A colourful hideaway offering a great atmosphere and fantastic views of the Indian Ocean. The 25-metre long swimming pool is one of the main attractions in the heart of this low rise resort. The Gravity bar has a shisha lounge upstairs, with cocktails, music and beach views. The stylish décor blends cool whites, warm woods, and turquoise details echoing the ocean waters. And there are beachside barbecues and waterfront dining venues. The AVANI also gives a taste of the rest of the Seychelles, with tamarind from the north infusing everything from ice creams to champagne rum cocktails. This is the complete island experience.

Upon arrival at Avani, our chosen location, we were greeted with such warmth, and friendliness, which i can only say continued for the duration of our stay. Friendly staff, great hotel, beautiful rooms, and absolutely breathtaking surroundings make this a location of choice, and a place i wold go back to time and again. Especially for the Thursday Seafood Buffet. Read less

In short: great service, amazing food, good location, overall good value for money. To know more keep reading. We spent 6 nights at the Avani and were really impressed by the quality of service, in particular from the staff of the Food and Beverages and Guest Relations departments. Your every request is taken care of promptly and efficiently. The friendly staff is always happy to have a chat and give you some advice about places to see, things to do, good restaurants etc. The room was fine, spacious enough with your usual equipment and Air Conditioning which is very important in this climate. The bed was really comfy actually and unlike other hotels I didn't have any issues with finding sleep. The hotel itself has a nice long beach with unfortunately only the right section that's safe for swimming but it is great to relax as the view is gorgeous, with a nice little piece of forest closing the beach. The water there is safe for a swim and even for snorkeling. The lagoon was full of life and it's even legal to fish there. Bring swimming shoes though. The highlight of our stay at the Avani was by far the food and drinks. On our first night we had a buffet of local cuisine, with an amazing variety of fresh seafood dishes. The nice thing is that for those who don't like seafood or have allergies to specific things like mussels or clams, there are plenty of other options to ensure you have a good meal, either from the buffet or the A la Carte menu that both offer a good mix of local and Western food. The desserts were delicious as well, with once again special mention to the local treats like cononut, papaya or mango tarts, sorbets, jams etc. The local beer is pretty good but what stood out were the local infused rums and cocktails. My favorite was the "ti-punch". Not to mention that the hotel restaurant and bar are practically on the beach, so the view while having your meal or drinks is pretty awesome. If you go all the way to the Seychelles for holidays then I strongly suggest to not be one of those people who stay at the pool the whole time and end up not actually seeing anything of the islands. There are tour agencies within the hotel itself that offer day trips to the most interesting spots of the islands. I'd strongly suggest renting a car and doing some sightseeing of your own as well and the good thing about the Avani is that it's conveniently located a short drive from some of the best spots Mahé has to offer. As for the internet, keep in mind that the overall quality in the Seychelles is pretty poor and terribly expensive but the free Wi-Fi at the hotel was actually pretty decent, especially for checking your email or social media (not ideal for streaming but I still managed to watch some Netflix) and the signal was good all over the Hotel, from the room to the restaurant and even at the beach. That's about it, hope it helps! Read less

Both of us working non stop for a couple of months were looking out for a well deserved break with our kids aged 6 & 4. And absolutely no regrets that we chose Avani in Seychelles! The staff at the property are the ones who make this hotel your home. Property is huge, well laid out, neatly landscaped and by Barbarons beach making it well secluded from public. We were checked in while having a chilled welcome drink and cold towels in the comfort of the lobby. Steve welcomes is, gave an orientation of the hotel and personally took us to our room. He explained all so well that we didn’t have to any question and he kept reminding us that we’re on a holiday and the staff is at our service. The room we were given was huge, with a superking sized bed, a two sweater sofa, and a big bathroom too. Going through other reviews, we disagree that the hotel needed an uplift as the room, restaurants, and lobby were in niche condition. The next evening after a day out sightseeing, we saw that the room wasn’t cleaned well and sand from the previous evening was still in the room. We gave a feedback on the check-in mail that I received and lo, within 4 mins I received a call from the hotel manager Javed, who immediately apologised and sent housekeeping. This made our day and is true customer service commitment. At the restaurant, we had daily brekkies and dinners being on half board and were amazed at the variety of food. For breakfast, Joanne at the egg station is a gem. She makes everyday, the best omelettes that you could have, always smiling no matter how busy she is and truly is busy. The four nights we stayed, the restaurant had Indian, Roast, Mediterranean and Seafood themes, ALL amazing. The standouts were baked fish and suckling pig during roast night, grilled lobster and octopus curry in seafood night and rich curries for Indian night. Instead of Mediterranean night, we optioned for the in house Thai restaurant one night. This was our ONLY negative feedback during our stay. Firstly, the set menu has hardly any options. We placed our order and after a whole 45 mins, we were served starters, a good 30 mins later, our mains; we didn’t bother for desserts considering it took ages already. Lastly, the food tasted more Chinese with corn flour for thickening rather than coconut or flavours of lime leaves and galangal. Must say that this one off instance didn’t deter our experience at Avani and surely recommend the property. If at all we come back to Seychelles, no doubt we stay here. Read less

We had a great time celebrated a birthday there and made to feel very special. All the staff were always helpful and polite an accommodating. We would recommend this resort and if you get room 269 you are on the first floor and have an excellent view of the ocean.

I was amazed how everyone knew it was my friend’s birthday .. that’s how the resort is personal.. The assistant bar & restaurant manager was fab, Renish by the reception , the Thai chef- pitchapha, and executive chef- Marcas. The housekeeping staff, the waiters . I recommend this place ! Our flight was late at midnight flying back , the hotel offers a lounge at the airport , you can shower , dine and connect on internet ... don’t leave the place without asking them if you have a late flight!
