Enchanted Island Resort

Seychelles, Indian Ocean

The hotel

If there’s even the slightest bit of ‘Robinson Crusoe’ in you, it’s sure to come out at the romantic JA Enchanted Island Resort. But this is doing ‘castaway’ like an A-lister. Home to a mere ten luxurious villas, this little private island sits in Sainte Anne National Marine Park. Your exclusive villa has a charming creole design and features a private infinity pool, outdoor bathroom, deck and gazebo, and a private walkway down to the beach. And, although you may not have a ‘Man Friday’, you do have a butler at your service to put loungers on the beach for you, bring you a refreshing drink or arrange a kayak for you. There’s a restaurant by the hotel’s clifftop pool where the chef's on hand to chat about the delectable local dishes, or you could opt for private dining on your villa’s terrace. And, if that’s not enough extravagance, the resort's spa offers more in its oceanfront treatment pavilions. This island hideaway is the ultimate in privacy and relaxation for couples.

I cannot say enough about the staff - from the General Manager to reception staff, to the bartenders, to the Chef, to the butlers - everyone went out of their way to make our stay the BEST! The villas are set into the natural environment with outdoor bathrooms that we just loved! Highly recommend this to anyone that wants to truly relax and get away from it all. Read less

We arrived at the resort from the ferry from La Digue and a car was waiting for us to bring us to the private boat that transports you to the island. (We had arranged this beforehand and it went off without a hitch.) The boat leaves from a private marina of Eden Island which appears, from the marina full of high end yachts, to be an area of wealthy foreigners. The boat ride is about 10 minutes and the ride was smooth. When we arrived at the island jetty the general manager Borak greeted us and checked us in. We were given a cool towel and a welcome drink before being brought to our villa. (The island is private and has only 10 villas, all private and with their own infinity pool.) We were upgraded to one of the signature villas and from the pictures on the hotels.com website it looks like it may have been the “owners villa.” To say it is a villa is definitely an understatement as it consisted of two buildings, the “salon” which was a two story building with a living and dining area and a half bath on the first floor and a king bedroom suite with full bath on the second floor. The second building was the “master suite” which consisted of a bedroom and sitting area, a walk in closet, his and her vanity sinks, and an outside shower and toilet area on the deck overlooking the ocean. (There are giant blinds that roll down to seperate you from boats passing by so you are shielded from any curious onlookers!) In front of the buildings is the pool area with an infinity pool, a sundeck with four sun loungers, and a covered dining area with a table for four. From this deck area there are two staircases leading down to the private beach. Initially, I wondered why the last couple steps were rough and difficult to navigate but then realized that when the tide is high it reaches the finished steps and the beach is covered by water. The living areas are beyond luxurious and it was like nothing I have ever experienced before. The beds were turned down nightly when we were dining and cleaned when we were out during the day. The restaurant was exceptional with the chef coming out to meet us personally on our first day and all of the servers were extremely friendly and well trained, even greeting us by name at our arrival for each meal. The menu is heavily geared towards seafood but there are meat, chicken, and vegetarian options as well. There is a definite indian influence as was the case throughout our travels in the Seychelles. (We were on the full board which included three courses for both lunch and dinner but the prices were extremely reasonable for the quality of the resort. We dine frequently in New York City and I would say the prices are similar. In all honesty, when we return I would probably just go with the a la carte option as I found myself eating way more than I probably needed to.) The island was located in a marine park around the six islands in the cluster but it was quite busy with boat traffic so the snorkeling was just OK. There are kayaks available to explore other islands which we took advantage of, but if you are looking for a good snorkeling experience I would hire a private excursion. I did see some baby sharks swimming by our beach but did not see them when I was out in the water. We did kayak across the channel to Moyenne Island to see the giant tortoises which was excellent. There is a small fee but it was well worth it. My advice would be to go early to beat the crowds as the area is small and in the middle of the day there are many boats stopping by with large tours. We went right when it opened and were the only ones there. The resort will provide a boat for you but the kayaks only took us about 10 minutes to get across and we were able to go at our own leisure. There is also a sandbar that connects to Long Island which we walked over to but we didn’t see any paths to explore so we just walked back. We were returning when the tide was rising and there were a couple places where we were in ankle deep water getting back. Overall, this was far and away the nicest accommodation we have ever experienced. The level of service and luxury were top notch and I would be hard pressed to find any complaints! Read less

My wife and I were in search of a well priced, conveniently located (meaning short boat ride from the airport) luxury hotel holiday. We were not expecting something comparable to our honeymoon at a 5* resort in the Maldives, and it is fortunate that our expectations were a little tempered because although the waters were crystal clear, the vegetation lush and tropical and the boat ride a short hop from the main island, something about JA Enchanted Island resort fell short of 5 star. It felt like the sort of place where the staff or management hadn't actually stayed in a super luxurious establishment, hence they didn't quite know how to deliver it. The fabric of the resort is tired. Whilst the waiting and housekeeping staff were extremely attentive, they strayed into overly familiar and at times unprofessional. If you are a couple or have a young family, then the location and 'things to do' locally are excellent. If you are newly weds on honeymoon i would advise you to spend a bit more because there is not only better value for money elsewhere, but, this resort is not at the same level as many others 'further out'. There are numerous instances where service and initiative fell well short of what i would expect. I am sure, as they do on other reviews, the management team of JA will reply and, I will happily go into more detail as to the shortcomings, but, as they were personal to my wife and my experience I think it unnecessary to detail them on here. We’ve just returned from 8 nights at Enchanted Island and are missing it already. We had a lovely, relaxing stay and the staff really made it wonderful. We had a walk across to the neighbouring island across the sandbank, did some kayaking, paddle boarding and snorkelling as well as visiting the tortoises on Moyenne island, which was lovely. The rest of the time was spent relaxing by our private pool or on the beach, going to the small gym and Ju’s yoga class or getting a treatment at the spa. The food was delicious. Even as a vegetarian, there was plenty of choice. I never did manage to work my way through all of the breakfast options and when I had tried all of the vegetarian starters at dinner, the chef Suman created new things for me. He also did some lovely main and dessert dishes for us that weren’t on the menu but were lovely. The waiting staff in the bar and restaurant were exceptional. Always met you with a smile and couldn’t do enough to help. Rooms were lovely and ours, Banbou, was very private. The outdoor bathroom and private pool had lovely sea views. All in all a very relaxing and rejuvenating holiday. Thank you to everyone at Enchanted Island for making it a great break for us! Read less
