Raffles Praslin, Seychelles

Seychelles, Indian Ocean

The hotel

Every little luxury has been thought of at the award-winning Raffles Praslin. It starts with the location, on the white powder sands of Anse Takamaka and just minutes from Anse Lazio, regularly voted one of the world’s best beaches. Then there’s your villa, which has a private plunge pool, an outdoor pavilion with a daybed, and even a yoga mat, easel and sketch pad for moments of pure escapism. There’s also the decadence of two infinity pools and a selection of dining, from pan-Asian to Creole. And, of course, there’s a spa — this vast haven of peace and relaxation is rather special and, with stunning views, luxurious facilities and a tranquil spa garden, it's no surprise it has been nominated for a number of prestigious awards. To top off your stay at Raffles Praslin, you'll find extra treats, like the island’s only shisha lounge, Takamaka Terrace, where you can stargaze and sip cocktails in a rooftop setting.

I thought it would be a nice idea to vist Raffles for the day , and relax use the pool and beach. I called ahead and was told that I should just come to the reception and pay my 500SCR ( which is over priced) and then I can go down. When I got to there, the taxi driver doped us at the wrong entrance, security escorted us to the write place but on the way, he was talking to us like we are stupid, and got upset that the taxi stopped where he did. I felt really bad and like I had done something wrong. Btw I have never been to the island or to Raffles before. So we get to the desk and asked to use to pool for Day Use, I was told to sit and wait as he had to check if we allowed in, I told the reception guy that I had called before and that I was told it was ok, to which he asked if I had spokent to someone on Front desk. How must I knw this, I called the hotel number and the person told me what she said. After 10 minutes of waiting I was told to go to the pool, when I asked about payment, I had to pay there. So the 500 SCR is only for the pool, there is no locker room to change in , one must use the restaurant toilet , the rate also does not include a meal like other hotels do. On the pool beds you find a pool menu, but to try order, you will not find anyone as the pool boys are busy on the beach or doing something else and never visit you. So you need to walk to the restaurant yourself and order and take it yourself. For a 5 star hotel like this you would think the service would be more customer focused. Well thanks Raffles but will not visit again. Read less

I had such high hopes for my honeymoon at Raffles. The resort itself is beautiful, but the service was the worst I've ever experienced. From waiting an hour for our lunch to be delivered to then be told the order was never placed, to walking out of a sushi dinner because no one attended to us for about an hour (even though the restaurant only had 2 other guests), to being told our room will be set-up with a romantic bubble bath and champagne at 6pm and to walk in to nothing (which resulted in me breaking down in tears with how upset I was), and many more examples (but you get the point) I was very sad to have this be my honeymoon experience. I had such high hopes and left very crushed and disappointed that I spent $8,000 to be ignored and not catered. Save your money and go to the Constance resorts (where we had an amazing lunch!) or the Four Seasons (they never let you down). Read less

They provide us with a beautiful complimentary organization for our anniversary (a cake, bath decoration, outdoor setting area decoration), which I really appreciate 7. Love their beach and they offer a diving tools as well 8. Love the nature in the resort 9. Love the turtles aged 90+ years old 10. Not annoyed by the insects at all 11. After 1 perfect week on Maje, we flied to Raffles for 1 week for exact anniversary day and the expectations were probably too high. Raffles turned to be nice hotel in general: pretty villas, restaurants with nice view, good swimming pool, and nice small beach, where we often were the only ones. They also have nice complimentary yoga, don’t miss, and kids can feed turtles any time. Go to La Digue for sure, and if you are with kids take a buggy there, you will go faster from beach to beach then on bycicles and have more time to enjoy. Now to disappointments: When a hotel stays for exceptional hospitality and your check-in starts with tears, and during whole stay some things happen mostly every day, the whole experience can’t be but spoilt. On the check-in asking for advise which from 2 offered villas to choose I was told by the reception lady that if she had anniversary she would of course choose not those two but one of higher category🙈. I had to ask to show territory with buggy (in Constance we were invited for this), here I had to insist 🙁 Several days in a row there were unexpected lights turning in the villa at night and switching off on their own, which seemed quite scary, when it’s raining outside, and you live on the highest level villa close to road, and the flashes are at 3 a.m. For several days they could not fix it. There were ants on the table. They came to fight with them 2 times. The special present for anniversary - bathroom with petals and cake turned to be in reality artificial petals around bathroom in 5 star hotel and 2 pieces of cake when we were 3 with a child ( probably they decided she didn’t deserve to celebrate with us). The funniest: we agreed on time both for bath and cake to be prepared, when we arrived the was bath prepared and no cake:) it came in 20 min with ring at the door when we were trying to take that hot bath🤷‍♀️. Seems to be small unpleasant things, but when it is your special day and special vacation and you go to Raffles you expect it to be at a level. We really thought we had to choose Constance chain for Praslin as well. Read less

A trip to Seychelles cannot be without visit to popular island (Praslin). Reached after a short Air Seychelles small aircraft flight (20mn), Praslin is a gem island, comparable to South West Koh Samui (20 years ago). Rented a car at airport, we attended MCB Golf Tournament at Constance Lemuria. On our way to our hotel, we stopped by the UNESCO Vallee de May park, the only location in the world where you discover unique Coco de Mer plants (Coco Fesse and Coco Male), part of endemic forests. Super informative, hire a tour guide if you can spare 2-3 hours. We reached Raffles Seychelles (30mn drive from Airport) , a stunning luxury property with awesome design (Asian large wide lobby deck with 180 degrees panoramic view) and great vegetation that grant you full privacy. The Pool Villas are decent size (60-70m2), a large Master Bedroom, bathroom and outdoor shower, private patio with 2 sun beds and feature great views. The plunge pool is half size than other Luxury International Chain in Seychelles (Felicite and Petite Anse). Restaurant options are great, especially for Asian clientele with a choice of Pan Asian delicacies (Indian, Thai. Indonesian dishes), and they have lots of experience and trained employees. The breakfast experience is to die for, has so many options that suits couples and families. Beach is somehow small and short, affected by beach erosion. Fortunately this resort has 2 very large swimming pool (1 was on renovation). Would definitely recommend this place for a short stay 3-4 nights. Read less
