Anantara Tangalle Peace Haven Resort

Sri Lanka, Indian Ocean

The hotel

A secluded spa retreat on a coconut plantation overlooking the Indian Ocean, the Anantara Peace Haven Tangalle Resort is an inspiring setting for a ‘holistic’ holiday. Yoga, meditation or tai chi on the curving golden beach in front of the hotel relaxes you into holiday mode. You can even take private classes in your villa, or head to the spa for Ayurveda or reflexology. It sets you up for days exploring southern Sri Lanka’s national parks and cultural sights. This exclusive hideaway also offers exquisite dining. Stepping back to colonial days, Anantara’s pastry chef bakes scones for High Tea and local fishermen land their catch on the beach for Il Mare’s chefs to prepare — and you to enjoy at this dramatic clifftop restaurant. Or you can whip up your own island classics at the Spice Spoons kitchen!

From entering the grounds we felt secure, cared for and pampered. Fantastic welcome ceremony set the scene. Was pleasantly surprised to see the balloons, 'towel' cake and sweet treats waiting for us in the room as acknowledgment of my fellow travelers birthday. Room was clean, bright, great bath, perhaps overall a little small (but no doubt an upgrade would fix that). Can imagine it being great for families, but was delighted that it was very peaceful and easy to find your own spot away from others by the pool. Did some yoga over looking the ocean, and was impressed by gym and spa facilities although did not have time to use. High tea was a well priced treat - very generous in servings and service and lovely looking over the ocean and pool from above. Superb on-site restaurants, the italian one in particular was my best 'non- Sri Lankan' meal of the trip (towards the end of the trip needed a break from currys!), I would recommend the carpaccio, lasagne and rose. Regret only staying one night, could have easily enjoyed a week at thus truly luxurious paradise. Read less

Everything was fabulous from start to finish, the service was warm and gracious, our villa was out of this world and the food was fantastic. A true paradise and we could not have dreamed of a better place. We look very much forward to staying in other Anantara locations and hopefully revisiting Tangalle in the nearest future. We also very highly recommend your wonderful place to others. Thank you for making our stay truly special and unforgettable. Read less

Very nice location, a 50-acre estate. The Il Mare restaurant is fantastic and truly authentic, the chef is very nice and keeps an eye on everything. Concierge was not very helpful.
