Jungle Beach Resort

Sri Lanka, Indian Ocean

The hotel

Artfully incorporating existing trees and natural plant life into its design, you’ll feel like you’re staying in a tree house at the Jungle Beach Resort — but, we assure you, a tree house of the most luxurious kind. Rooms face either the beach, the lagoon or are immersed in the jungle. Teak walkways and stepping stones connect areas and lead the way to a rustic open dining area where you can hear the lapping of waves and birdsong. There is also a bar just across the lotus pond and a floating platform for lounge chairs by the pool, a waterfall cascading in the distance. If you can tear yourself away from such tropical splendour, the beach is well worth a visit — it’s one of the best in Sri Lanka. Enjoy a whale or dolphin watching excursion, or discover a wealth of underwater life as you snorkel at Pigeon Island Marine National Park. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served to suit your timetable, utilising only the best local ingredients. A private beach picnic under the stars is also highly recommended!

We had the most relaxing tranquil honeymoon here at Jungle Beach, a very literal name as we stayed in our own very spacious cabin surrounded by the jungle and we could walk down our very own path to the hotel's private beach in under a minute. We loved the outside shower facility and the privacy. We wanted to take a break from our hectic lives in the UK and we it was so easy to do. It was the wet season and therefore quite quiet at the hotel but there were still plenty of staff about to help and they were helpful! We were waited on wherever we were, our room, the beach, the pool but also left to our own devices in between. The staff even invited us to learn how to cook, we were able to choose from a number of different local curries and Rathna Kamara (the chef) taught us the local way. He was fantastic and we had so much fun that we did a second class just two days later learning how to make paneer breads and side dishes. We only spent one day away from the resort... We headed to the nearby town of Trincomalee on a tuktuk and visited a few temples and bought our own earthenware inspired by our cookery classes. We would both highly recommend Jungle Beach with it's relaxed atmosphere and excellent service. Thank you to all the staff for making our stay one to remember - even down to the homemade banana smoothie that was waiting for me at 4.30am when we left the hotel! Read less

At the booking stage I have reserved another hotel of Uga group forgetting to select an available offer, but the management was really flexible to add me the offer and use that extra credit to reserve "jungle Beach". The entrance of this property symbolizes the simplicity and minimum impact to the environment, One might it is a jungle unless the hotel name is there. Our jungle cabin was great and the exterior shower was our favorite of all the amenities. We enjoyed the sunset at the hotel beach and had a cool swim in the swimming pool. Food was tasty and the service was excellent. Read less

Jungle beach was really nice. Sea was lovely to swim in but went deep very quickly when you got in so not suitable for young children. A surfers paradise i would imagine. Wasn't many sunbeds available. Had a beach bar that looked nice but we only went for a couple if hours so didn't try it. Not far in a tuk tuk and quite reasonable.

This was probably the best place that we stayed during our six and a half week visit to Sri Lanka. Sadly we only spent two nights at the hotel in a huge beach hut with a gorgeous balcony from which you could see the sea as well as the surrounding jungle. Our hut had chairs and sofas to sit on as well as a sofa, table and chairs on the balcony. Falling asleep to the sounds of the sea was delightful. The weather was as expected rather unpredictable in February but we enjoyed lying on the beach and walking along the beaches in the welcome sea breezes, even if the sea was too rough for swimming. Our routine was to swim in the pool and then move to the beach. We found the pool slightly oppressive in its jungliness and proximity to the restaurant, although it was very attractive. The food was excellent, especially the 'jumbo prawns' and French fries. Read less

Very tranquill with attentive staff. Upstairs lagoon rooms were best - the beach view cabins didn't have much of a view. Dinners were excellent - but priced at European level. The beach is long but quite narrow - with a lot of rubbish if you walked a few hundred meteres off the hotel area. Lovely to have a sundowner on the balcony of the lagoon room as the sun set and the water birds had their last meals. Read less
