Ulagalla Resort

Sri Lanka, Indian Ocean

The hotel

A luxury hotel with a 150-year old mansion at its centre, Ulagalla Resort was once the ancestral estate of local Anuradhapura nobility. A luxury hotel, it’s a wonderful place to stay, full of atmosphere and beauty, most of which is ecologically sustained. Bowing to the elements, the hotel has its own solar farm, making it cutting edge too in green terms. Accommodation is in chalets spread throughout the 58-acre estate — spacious inside, they are packed with home comforts, including flatscreen TV, WiFi and four-poster beds. Each has its own private plunge pool, ideal for cooling off in anytime of day or night, and there is 24-hour room service, ensuring you can do what you came here to do — relax! For something a little more strenuous try some of the resort activities on offer, such as kayaking and nature tours. Enjoy feasting on gastronomic delights, including home-grown fruit and vegetables, at the main restaurant or request a meal and have it delivered to your chalet — just tell the chefs what you fancy and they will oblige!

Ulagalla is the most wonderful property we have stayed so far in SL and we had a super amazing time there which is truly remarkable.. The location of the resort is magnificent, and the architectural style villas are beautifully designed, extremely comfortable, and completely private. Enjoyed our time together in the plunge pool day and night :) This property has been maintained by the team very well even during the pandemic situation. That has to be admired! The food was delicious and served in a thoughtful manner. They have their homemade ice creams which taste really good and should definitely try during your meals. They taste damn so good! Ulagalla management has provided many activities at the property and among them we seriously enjoyed the complimentary horse riding, which was stupendous. Special thanks to Ramsy, who assisted us during the horse riding. They do have provided bicycles in each villas so that you can have your own bike ride around the property and enjoy the peaceful environment while engaged in bird watching, and site seen. The staff were simply wonderful, very friendly, very flexible and very helpful. We were warmly welcomed by the team and they are super attentive. I have requested them to assigned a villa which secure the privacy at its best and as I have requested, the villa we had been given was completely private. They were simply able to accommodate all our special requirements and we are really grateful for that. Special thanks to all the team members at Ulagalla but should specially mentioned Tharaka, who assisted us during our stay at Ulagalla and Seshaya and Dilrukshi for accommodating our special requests at their best. Hats off to your hospitality and thanks once again for making our stay at Ulagalla so wonderful and remarkable! Read less
