Our Sri Lanka Explorer tours are designed to fit in with you, these three night packages fit perfectly into the middle of your Sri Lanka beach stay. You will enjoy an adventurous few nights in Yala’s lodges which are nestled between pristine jungle and wild beaches, where you can spot sloth bear, wild elephant and the elusive leopard by day on your jeep safari.

Itinerary

Day 1: Depart Colombo

Today you will be transferred from your chosen beach or Colombo hotel to Yala National Park. The road transfer from Colombo or Negombo is approximately 5–6 hours; alternatively you can fly with Cinnamon Air (approximately 1 hour). As Yala is on the south-eastern coast you can start or end this extension in any of the beach resorts in Sri Lanka.

Yala is Sri Lanka’s most known National Park and is popular for elephant, leopard, bear, crocodile and wild boar. 97,800 hectares in extent, this is the second largest of Sri Lanka’s National Parks. Its open undulating terrain made it famous for elephants for many years, but recently the park has also received much fame through publicity by National Geographic and the Discovery TV channels, which focused on a leopard research/conservation and identification project. Claims have subsequently been made that Yala National Park has one of the world’s highest concentration of leopard per square kilometre. Enjoy 3 nights at Jetwing Yala or similar (4V option), Cinnamon Wild or similar (5V option) Chena Huts* or similar (boutique option). (D)

Days 2–3: Yala National Park

An exciting jeep safari awaits — early this morning you will start your first journey into Yala National Park. A packed light breakfast along with a few refreshments will be offered during this 4-hour excursion. This is a great opportunity to spot the elusive leopards and wild elephants, among many other beasts, as you venture deeper into the wild. Return to your hotel for lunch before you start your afternoon safari. (B/D)

Day 4: Depart Yala

This morning you will drive back to Colombo or your chosen beach hotel. Alternatively you can fly with Cinnamon Air. (B)

Pre/Post Tour Options

This Yala Explorer is a 3-night extension designed to fit in-between your stay in your chosen beach hotel. As Yala is on the south-eastern coast of Sri Lanka you can combine this extension to most beach resorts from Negombo right the way down to Tangalle. Alternatively if you wish to stay in Negombo or Colombo you can add an internal flight with Cinnamon Air.

Tour inclusions

  • Air-conditioned transport with private driver/guide
  • Sightseeing as detailed, including entrance fees and still camera fees
  • Accommodation and meal inclusions as mentioned
  • Road taxes, parking fees, fuel surcharges and porterage at airports.

Tour exclusions

  • International flight, including all UK and overseas airport taxes and applicable fuel surcharges
  • Flight upgrades and airport transfers in the UK
  • Insurance
  • Items of a personal nature such as drinks, laundry, tips and gratuities, video camera fees at monuments
  • Anything not detailed on the itinerary.

Accommodation

Occasionally due to availability or other circumstances we may need to substitute one or more of the hotels with that of a similar standard.

Journey times

Sri Lankan roads are windy and there are few highways so journey times between destinations can be very long and those listed in the itinerary are approximate. If optional excursions are added or ad hoc visits are required this may add extra time on the roads. This tour have been designed by our destination experts so we have tried to build in free time to relax and added internal flights where we think cutting journey times may improve your experience.

In some instances you may want to add an internal flight to cut transfer times, for the Yala Explorer you can add the Colombo to Weerawila (for Yala) flight for an additional cost, please ask your Virgin Holidays agent.

Language

English is widely spoken in Sri Lanka.

Visa requirements

Holders of UK Passports will require a visa to visit Sri Lanka. This must be obtained in advance for US$30.00 and can be completed at: http://www.eta.gov.lk/slvisa

Depending on when you are due to travel, your holiday may be affected and we’ll email you to let you know as least 21 days before travel.

For extra piece of mind, new bookings made before 30 September 2020 for travel up 30 April 2021 also have the flexibility to amend free of charge. If you need to change don’t worry, you can move your holiday as far out as 31 December 2021 subject to availability.

Payment flexibility


Don’t worry if you’ve missed a payment or just need a little more time to pay; we have options available to help you. If your holiday is going ahead as planned, you can continue to pay for your holiday in Manage my booking, even if travelling in less than 12 weeks. If you’re unsure, you can delay any additional payments by choosing a new time to travel by requesting a call back in Manage My booking for one of our team to look at options. If your holiday is more than 6 months away, you may wish to set up a Direct Debit to spread the cost. This can be arranged whilst rebooking or afterwards in Manage my booking.

We understand that you may wish to change your holiday plans and we appreciate the need for flexibility.

You're holiday is going ahead as planned


If we haven’t notified you of any changes, your holiday will be going ahead as planned but if you prefer to move your holiday to a later time we can help. You can call our team on 0344 472 9499 who can look at options for you.

Thank you for your patience and understanding


Payments are being prioritised based on when the request was made, working in order from March 2020 onwards. We will always try to process refunds at the earliest opportunity, for requests before August our maximum timeframe is 120 days. As we are steadily reducing the maximum processing time for each new request, for refund requests made in August, we expect the maximum processing time to be 80 days, from the date the refund is requested. For those requesting a refund in September, we expect it to be processed within a maximum of 60 days, and then reduce to 30 days for refunds requested in October, before returning to normal levels.

To finalise the amendment, one of our customer advisors will phone you. We need to work through amend requests in departure date order so we can prioritise those with the most imminent travel plans, so you may have a longer wait than usual until we’re able to ring you back. We will help everyone that wants to move their holiday.
