Qasr Al Sarab Desert Resort by Anantara

Abu Dhabi, Middle East

The hotel

An oasis of luxury spectacularly located in the beginning of the Empty Quarter, the world’s largest uninterrupted sand desert. Magical doesn’t even begin to describe the Anantara Qasr Al Sarab Desert Resort, there’s an almost mystical quality to it, making it a superb choice for that special occasion – a honeymoon perhaps or a special anniversary? Sun soaked dunes provide a dramatic backdrop, admire them from the sun deck that surrounds the swimming pool. Like the bedouin, camel riding is the way to explore. Alternatively, hop on-board a 4x4 for a spot of dune driving or find your way round by bike. The amenities at the Anantara Qasr Al Sarab Desert Resort are as mind-blowing as the destination itself. There is everything you could possibly want for an indulgent week or two. For a start, the suites and rooms are considered amongst the finest in Abu Dhabi, featuring rich interiors and breathtaking desert views. A state-of-the-art fitness centre, tennis courts and the Anantara Spa await you also and, if you’ve children with you, they’ll love their very club, one aimed at younger kids, the other specifically for teens. There are four dining venues in total, each one offering an extensive range of Middle Eastern dishes as well as gastronomic experiences from around the globe – reserve yourself a table and enjoy!

The Quasr Al Sarab reminds you immediately of the difference between a five star hotel and any other hotel. It's the difference between Formula 1 and racing in a road car. The service was wonderful, unobtrusive and considerate, and, although you pay more the value of what you receive makes it more than worth the money. In our case we were celebrating our 30th anniversary and the trip gave us some wonderful memories. My wife and I have travelled and lived all over the world, so I do not say this lightly. But the most astounding thing of all is the great Rub Al Khali. The empty quarter. If you would like to see it in Saudi you can't unless you are an oil worker in the desert well of Shaybah. But in Quasr Al Sarab you can. This is the desert that, when T. E. Lawrence crossed it, he became a legend. This is the desert Thessiger crossed. The mountainous Rub Al Khali is the pinnacle of all desert experiences and you can only get the full experience - unless you want to take great risks - by staying at Quasr Al Sarab. The long drive through the red dunes and bare salt flats immerses you in the experience and then the hotel itself puts you in the middle of it, luxuriously. Read less

Rooms are large, well appointed with quiet air-conditioning. Food is excellent. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff. They even provided a cake and bubbly for our anniversary. Pool area is good and very quiet when we were there. Being in the middle of the Empty Quarter, it has an ambience all of its own and the whole family loved it. Read less
