We have just returned from a 4 night stay at Saadiyat Rotana Resort & Villas, which unfortunately was tarnished by no fault of the hotels, but by the COVID19 outbreak. When we arrived to check in our travel agent had actually cancelled our booking without prior notification. The reception staff were pretty helpful in resolving the situation and we were able to book another room, however they could not match the price we had paid through our travel agent which was disappointing, so we did end up paying more for the same room type. Not off to a great start. We were clearly pretty distressed with the whole situation and although the hotel staff were sympathetic, no gesture was offered. (I have had a similar situation happen before at a 5 star hotel and when we got back to our room later that night there was a handwritten card and fruit platter waiting for us.) The room itself was absolutely beautiful and spacious. We booked a premium sea view double room which had a lovely balcony and bathroom with all amenities. Nespresso machine, minibar, robes etc. The bed was comfortable and the room serviced every day, with nightly turndown. Free bottled water was also provided each day, as is the standard now in every 5 star UAE hotel. The resort is extensive with lovely big grounds, perfect for strolling around. The resort has its own private beach with white sand and lovely warm blue waters. The pool is large with plenty of sun loungers, however I would say the hotel could have only been at 5-10% occupancy if that. I don’t feel that the size of the pool and number of beds around it, in relation to the number of rooms, would be ideal in peak season. There are a number of on site restaurants/bars. We ate at Hamilton’s Gastropub one night which had a great menu, great drinks and the portions are HUGE (even the starters) we couldn’t finish our mains so be careful not to over order. The food was hot and fresh. The wine and beer was cold... what more can you ask for! We also ate from the pool bar which was again lovely. The happy hour at the pool bar is 4-6pm with 50% off selected drinks which made for the perfect sundowners each day. The pool drinks menu itself is great with a massive selection of cocktails, I will upload some photos to accompany this review. Breakfast was great with the best hotel coffee I’ve had in the UAE. Perfect cappuccinos every day without fail so compliments to the Barista. However understandably due to the Coronavirus, it wasn’t actually a breakfast buffet and due to the smaller number of guests it wasn’t served in the usual dining outlet, but in the Turtle Bay restaurant instead. Everything we had was delicious and we tried a good selection of eggs, cereals, pastries, pancakes and fruit. I would imagine the breakfast buffet to be great under normal circumstances. We visited the gym a couple of times before it was again closed due to the virus. Again 10/10 for the equipment in there, a great selection, plenty of it, and all brand new. The spa was unfortunately closed so we didn’t get to visit. We do look forward to returning hopefully in October once the world has returned to some normality, fingers crossed. I would be interested to see if the hotel could uphold its great standards under the pressure of a more normal guest capacity. We usually stay at Ritz Carlton Abu Dhabi and I would defiantly give Saadiyat a second visit before deciding which is my favourite, but it’s a strong contender! Read less

From start to end you are looked after, there have been friendly faces all over the place, always a smile, a Hello and Good Morning, it is well organised and the resort is a beautiful place to relax and spent your holidays anyways. Very nice pool area with swim up pool bar, private beach / easy access and very close by, plenty of space, kids pool and kids area, well equipped gym, Yoga at the beach .... Also close to sightseeing spots, usually an easy and fast ride with a cab. Unfortunately, I missed out on the sightseeing, for obvious reasons (the spots have been closed) --- hence, I intend to be back. When I do, I will definitely stay at Saadiyat Rotana Resort & Villas again. Read less

My sister and I had a wonderful stay at the Saadiyat Rotana. The staff were all exceedingly polite and helpful. For course, the resort itself is stunning, in a fantastic location on the beach. We enjoyed swimming in the ocean, wading in the pool and utilising the pool bar during our stay. Very relaxing overall. I would like to make a special mention to the staff during a difficult time in the industry. New COVID-19 restrictions came into place in the middle of our stay and the staff handled it with the utmost professionalism. Self-serve at the buffet and reusable crockery were no longer allowed. The staff provided exceptional service in not only putting together plates for us but also cleaning up promptly and with particular care to hygiene. We also received communications in a letter at our door to notify us of all changes and we really appreciated this level of service. To the Saadiyat Rotana Resort staff, and particularly to the management, we commend you on your service and recognise your sacrifice in continuing to work through this crisis. I am a travel agent, and once the world starts travelling again I will certainly be recommending this resort to every client of mine. Read less

The food is excellent (SimSim Restaurant - buffet). The staff is very friendly and obliging (reception, restaurants, room service). This became obvious when my mother had an accident. The staff lovingly took care of her. It feels as if we are in a big family. That was my impression during the week. As for me, I like the modern design in the room and in the entire hotel. Especially the reception hall is phantastic. That's exactly the style I love. @staff: Thanks for offering delicious Arabian coffee and dates in the reception hall! Read less
