The Oberoi Beach Resort Al Zorah

Ajman, Dubai Beaches and beyond

The hotel

Something of a statement, The Oberoi Beach Resort, Al Zorah is both a chic holiday hideaway, and a sculptural landmark worthy of a Turner prize. Reclining along a postcard-perfect sweep of white sand in Al Zorah (a one million square metre patch of protected forest in Ajman), this retreat is as contemporary as they come, with its crisp wooden pool deck, geometric take on Middle Eastern fretwork, and oversized walls of windows taking in sumptuous sea views. It’s not just contemporary in style though, with its luxury villas featuring private pools and space to socialise, its Oberoi Spa rivalling any urban health retreat, the straight lines of its 85 metre pool designed to be seductively sleek, and its dining venues ticking off all those modern favourites, like tapas, bento boxes, sushi, cocktails, responsibly sourced seafood, and gourmet gastronomy.

The greatest compliment I can pay the Oberoi is that it feels so far removed from the UAE, it’s as though you’re in a different country. The greatest compliment I can pay the Oberoi is that it feels so far removed from the UAE, it’s as though you’re in a different country. Having travelled to close to 60 countries, and lived in Dubai for a decade, this is definitely one of, if not the, best hotels we’ve stayed in. The level of service exceeds what we’ve become accustomed to, with international staff clearly trained at an actual hotel service management school. Food at both Vinesse and Aquario restaurants is impeccable. The architecture is calming. The room was big, bright, and welcoming, with the balcony view inviting. The beach is clean and tidy, and the pool is exceptional. Downsides: The satellite TV system could do with updating. For a high premium hotel, consider having a Netflix app that guests can log into their own account on. The limited terrestrial TV often froze. In-room ironing facilities would be welcome, rather than relying on a pricey pressing service (AED40 a shirt seems steep). Given the class of the restaurants, you want to look smart. But all-in-all, our stay was exceptional, and we intend to return. Next time almost certainly with half-board. Read less

We stayed at the Oberoi for 8 nights. We have stayed a few times in the UAE before. The hotel is relatively small but with extensive grounds, no high rise blocks, 4 floors is the maximum. The intention is to create an oasis of calm luxury. We had a 2nd floor room overlooking the pool, a good location. There was no pool noise. The rooms are large and spacious, well equipped and with a large, if under furnished, balcony. There are also many single story villas nearer the sea. As with most 5* hotels the bedding and towels were changed daily, towels often twice if placed in the bath. There is a very large walk in shower. The mini bar was quite a bit cheaper than the bars for drinks (except at Happy Hour). Both the bars adjacent to the restaurants operate a 50% off happy hour from 5-7pm. This can save quite a bit as the drinks, as one would expect, are not cheap. Do ask for the Happy Hour menu as this is often not out (red inside). We switched between the two restaurants. The half board package is reasonable value but do check as it may be best to avoid if not intending to have three courses every night. The food is to a very good standard. The exception being the BBQ held weekly on a Thursday at the Aquario restaurant. This is buffet with the meat/fish cooked by the chefs and put in the warmers. Not recommended for foodies. Vinesse, the other restaurant also has a buffet on a Friday night, we avoided this. For wines we recommend the Tempranillo (AED80 - a glass). The white wines were not great but try the Sauvignon blanc. All half price at happy hour and can be taken into the restaurant from the bar or terrace. The beach is well maintained, there were plenty of loungers. The hotel as a policy of no lounger reservations. Beach and poolside service is via push button. We used the hotel concierge to book golf and transport to the nearby Al Zora Golf Club, they do a great value package including clubs and and buggy hire. The course is challenging with massive bunkers and lots of water. Read less

We enjoyed the mangrove tour and lucky to be only couple, stunning, you should definitely do this when staying. I left a swim suit in my room and they kept it safe for a few weeks until I could return, thank you!. Loved the fish restaurant, great food and ambiance. Highly recommend for a staycation and even after only one night I felt recharged and stress free! Read less
