Fairmont Ajman

Ajman, United Arab Emirates

Virgin rating

The hotel

Fairmont’s fabulous outpost in Ajman, this luxury beachfront retreat brings all the glamorous décor, gourmet dining, and grand amenities you’d expect from a Fairmont — in a setting you might not expect in the UAE. The next big name in the emirates, Ajman may be 30 minutes from Dubai, but it’s poles apart in its subtlety and serenity. The Fairmont’s arrival to its palm-swept beachline signals Ajman’s ready to compete with its neighbours. A grand getaway, it brings eight restaurants and lounges (taking you from Italy to the Caribbean), an infinity pool fringing a private stretch of sand, and an activity list that covers everyone in the family, from those after spa treatments to those who’d prefer splashing about on a floating off-shore water park (and even little guests who’d prefer making sandcastles at their kids’ club).

The hotel cannot be faulted on location, comfort & services. Beach, water and pool, are very safe, and a nice environment to spend a holiday. However arriving at the hotel early (9am) after flying overnight from London, and waiting until 3pm, is not helpful especially with a youngster. Also the all-inclusive package should be re-labelled as 'mostly inclusive', as children love ice-cream, and this wasn't included, which made for an expensive overhead. Read less

We stayed at the Fairmont Ajman for 7 nights in early April. As a family of 5, we often struggle to accommodate us all but our 2 deluxe rooms were very comfortable and they set up an extra bed for our 5 year old. The view from the rooms is stunning and we loved having our own balcony. We spent most of our days by the beach and pool and loved the sea and pool equally. Our children spent most of their time on the inflatable obstacle course which tired them out sufficiently! A special mention must be made to the all the life guards (both at the pool and at beach) who were wonderful with our children and entertained them daily. Our 5 year old went to kids club a few times and he enjoyed that too. We walked around the local area most evenings and loved seeing a world outside a big hotel. Our only disappointment was the food. We stayed on a half board basis and the supper buffet was identical every evening. I thought they had themed nights but this didn’t appear to be the case. We’ve stayed in a lot of similar hotels before and although reasonably tasty the variety of food was poor, especially for the children and we were bored of it by night 2. We went to the Italian restaurant one evening which was ok but we were charged for soft drinks (despite them being included at the buffet) and the half board allowance doesn’t stretch very far so we ended up paying an additional £50 for one pizza each which we felt was very poor value. Therefore, for the last few days we ate our food allowance at lunch by the beach and would go out for supper locally which we loved doing. Overall we had a wonderful, relaxing week and would definitely return both to the hotel and to any other Fairmont hotel. Thank you! Read less
