The hotel

Named after 14th century explorer Ibn Battuta, this luxurious 5-star hotel reflects his exciting travels around the world through its architecture, décor and cuisine. All guest rooms are beautifully furnished in the vibrant colours of Morocco whilst sumptuous suites are themed around Africa, Asia, the Middle East and Southern Europe. The hotel’s beach club on the Palm Jumeirah is just 10 minutes away with free shuttle transfers available all-day long. Spend your days soaking up the sun, indulging in an impressive selection of water sports or playing endless rounds of golf at several championship courses that surround you. There’s also a superb state-of-the-art fitness centre, complete with rooftop swimming pool nestled under imposing Moroccan arches. Dining opportunities are plentiful including Sicilia for contemporary Italian cuisine, Shanghai Chic for splendours of the oriental world and Chor Bazaar, decorated in the style of a ‘thieves market’ and boasting three tandoor ovens. One of the must-try culinary experiences here is the Friday Family Brunch under the impressive 88 Arabic lanterns of Al Bahou. For a relaxing pre-dinner drink, look no further than Moroc Lounge & Bar, overlooking the iconic Ibn Battuta gate and serving delicious and exotic cocktails. The newest addition to the hotel’s collection of outstanding restaurants is the exuberant Revo Café where you can enjoy a delicious cup of freshly brewed coffee, a wide selection of healthy light meals and sweet treats.

Rooms are super comfortable (I had a king room) with all the amenities needed for a business trip: desk, coffee machine, robes, ironing board, room service and mini-bar. Bathroom has a great size and is as well appointed as the room itself with easy access, not a cramped place at all! Bed and pillows were comfortable too. The common areas inside are beautiful as well with hanging lamps from a 7 floor atrium. 3 dinning choices (great breakfast buffet!) and a bar complete the set up. There’s a also a decent gym and a small roof-too pool for exercising. There’s a mall across the street in case you forgot or need something while you stay, even if it’s a quick bite. Good location between dubai and the TechnoPark as well. There’s a metro station nearby too. Will be back! Read less

The room was spacious, clean and comfortable. The bed and pillows were great and it had a wonderful shower. Breakfast buffet was included in our rate and it was terrific. A huge selection ranging from local to western menus. There is a mall right across the street which has all the usual stores, cafes and fast food and a very good supermarket. The train station is about 500m walk from the hotel. We had dinner in one of the hotel restaurants which had a Mexican theme that night. It was good but expensive. In fact, we found most things expensive in Dubai. Overall, we would go back but tour operators always commented on how far away it was and if you get a taxi from the airport, it would be expensive. We organised a driver to pick us up from the airport which worked out well. We were there in February and the temperature was in the low 20s. Read less
