Palace Downtown

Dubai City, Middle East

The hotel

For location, the Palace Downtown just can’t be beaten. Built on the Burj Khalifa Lake, right across from the tallest building in the world, you cannot fail to be in awe of the view. Each evening, sit on the hotel terrace, sipping a sundowner and watch the record-breaking Dubai Fountain, the entrancing performance of light, music and water which has to be seen to be believed. If that wasn’t enough, you are just steps from the world’s largest shopping mall, The Dubai Mall, as well as the vibrant Souk Al Bahar so if you are planning a stopover this hotel is ideal. When you’re not sightseeing, The Spa at The Palace is a serene place to relax and enjoy a soothing treatment. For world-class dining you don’t even need to leave the hotel, with an Argentinean steakhouse, International buffet and Thai restaurant to tempt you. Thiptara is particularly special, situated out by the lake, Thai cuisine is served al fresco by torchlight. For pre-dinner drinks, cocktail lounge FAI is one of the places in Downtown to be seen after dark.

We stayed for 2 nights on our way back from Mauritius to minimise the jet lag flying to the UK. On reflection this was nowhere near enough time to take in all the sights of Dubai. The hotel is directly opposite the Burj Khalifa. We woke the first morning, went along for breakfast by this impressive building. The welcome we received at check in, when we arrived and on our arrival for breakfast was professional and so, up-market. It was truly amazing. The young lady Chef escorted us round the buffet breakfast and helped us get acclimatised. The selection is truly amazing. We were only at the hotel for 2 nights so needed to use our only full free day to the best effect. The hotel had given us two tickets to visit the Aquarium; an attraction that has to be visited to appreciate it. Put it on your list of things to do!- you will not be disappointed. We also had incredible help from Tran, lovely lady working on the Front Desk. In all my years travelling on business and leisure I have never had such a competent, happy person on a Front Desk. She arranged for a visit for 'afternoon tea' on the 120th floor of the Burj Khalifa. This is also something, not to be missed. It's not cheap but well worth doing, having traveled all the way to Dubai. The hotel amenities and comfort are first class Thank you Mariam for allowing us access to view the Fountain Displays. They are literally right on the door step of the hotel. It made the complete finish to a wonderful day. All to soon, time to leave but with so many unforgettable memories. We will return, Read less
