Anantara Al Jabal Akhdar Resort

Oman, Middle East

The hotel

Putting you on top of the world, this canyon-skirting retreat is the very height of luxury. Claiming a patch of Saiq Plateau on Oman’s temperate Green Mountain, it appears like a fortress rising from rocks – but inside it’s immaculately dressed, from its canyon-view rooms to its private pool villas. You’ll find chic Arabic detailing in its intoxicatingly calm spa and six dining outlets too – including Al Qalaa, an Arabian grill set in a tower inspired by Oman’s iconic Khasab Castle. With the resorts breathtaking mountain destination the views take the lead here, whether you’re swimming in the canyon-edge infinity pool, enjoying mountain experiences (like luxury picnics, photography classes, stargazing, cinema under the stars, mountain yoga, and mountain biking), or just soaking it all in at ‘Diana’s Point’, a viewing platform named after the Diana, Princess of Wales, who once visited the site of Anantara Al Jabal Akhdar Resort.

I assume it is due to the COVID 19... as the check in time took almost 2 hours we were waiting in the lobby with other guests, appreciate the front desk did explain that the delay was due to the sanitizing measures which were done in our villa (however this didn't make sense as I have booked the villa with the private parking in order to make sure my kids will not be in the lobby) called the operator 3 times just to ask them to open the jacuzzi unfortunately it was never opened ... The dinner option was poor it could be great if they could add more option to choose too than limiting the guest with only 2 options for the in room dining (on HB basis), however the breakfast was ok the rest of the service was good and the staff tried their best to make the experience memorable They even made my anniversary memorable by dropping a cake in my room the kids enjoyed their time in the swimming pool and the villa outside sitting area which made the staycation relaxing Read less

This hotel is the epitome of luxury and would highly recommend to splurge on a suite with a private pool. The views here also incredible and the fitness facilities here are also amazing. Food at every restaurant was also incredible. Room amenities were also a surprise everyday and great for cultural learning. Such as the dates (the fruit) that are offered with a mini guide. One thing I have to mention is the service is a little lacking at time and inconsistent. Took forever to check in and check out and seemed a little hostile at times. The butlers for the rooms were great though, always reminded you about your reservation for activities and will pick you up and drop you off on time. Also not to mention the hotel is very Instagram worthy. Read less

We spent 4 nights at the end Feb into March. It was our 3rd visit to the mountains but our first to the Anantara. It is a great looking hotel with staff who try very hard to make you welcome. There were, however, some things which let the hotel down during our stay. The first was that when we were taken to our room on arrival we were introduced to a room which had not been prepared. The gentleman led us back to reception and after a short delay we were taken to a room properly prepared. The room itself was very nice, great bathroom, good size, nice balcony to sit out in the sun and take in the amazing view. My wife did get repeated electric shocks when going in and out of the balcony door. We did not report this to staff. During our stay we ate at the Arabian Restaurant which was good but not exceptional. The other evenings we ate at the buffet restaurant where breakfast was also served. Again it was good but not exceptional with a bit of a canteen feel. The other thing which let the hotel down slightly was that on 2 occasions our room key did not work. We revisited reception who simply "updated" it and it then it worked. They didn't seem surprised when we took it to be fixed. Everything else was good, especially another mention for the staff, each and every one who we interacted with was excellent. Would I advise anyone to visit? Absolutely. Would I revisit? We would revisit the Alila which is further up the mountain and has a different feel which we preferred. Read less

We didn't join anything but they offer a wide range of activities for both adults and children such as hiking and yoga. Our stay was perfect in every single way. I will definitely love to come back.
