Shangri-La Al Husn Resort & Spa

Oman, Middle East

The hotel

Catering for adults from 16 years and above, every guest gets the royal treatment at Shangri-La Al Husn Resort & Spa, where you’re pampered with free poolside refreshments, treated to afternoon teas, and indulged with pre-dinner cocktails and canapés in the Courtyard a private evening lounge. They’ve even included VIP extras like a complimentary mini-bar and an iPod already loaded with your personalised playlist – giving you the perfect mood music for when you’re kicking off your shoes and sinking into the sands of this palatial hotel’s private cove, or sunbathing around its cliff top infinity pool. Meaning ‘castle’ in Arabic, the Al Husn stands like a citadel on a cliff, with fabulous views over the glittering Gulf of Oman. Its carved doors are guarded by sentry-like doormen, but inside it’s definitely more ‘glamorous’ than ‘fortress’, all facilities are exclusive to Al Husn guests from its regal rooms to its new luxury Hareer Spa by L'Occitance, and its elegant restaurants, with additional dining options at the neighboring sister resort Shangri-La Barr Al Jissah Resort & Spa.

The beach on this side is also much better - not only that the beach has less people and quieter (though i don't mean the other one is noisy), Al Husn's beach also has a nice view. The swimming pool is also beautiful. The complimentary afternoon tea is nice, but I think the variety of the food could be improved. Decoration and its setting is beautiful. The view from the restaurant is fantastic. The courtyard is really a cool place to chill out to have a drink (also included in my package) before dinner. Staff are friendly and helpful. They have a WhatsApp number which I can contact. Also, there is kind of a turtle alert system which if a turtle lays eggs on the beach, they would alert you. Unfortunately, I did not experience that during my stay. Overall, it is a beautiful property and would be a top choice. The landscape and setting....etc., everything is fine. Once you stay here, you don't want to leave it. Peraps it is the only drawback - it takes a while to go back to the city. The one thing that went wrong was the airport transfer and breakfast on the last day. We left the hotel early for our flight, but found out that the transfer arranged by the hotel was late, yet the packed breakfast took even longer! I almost wanted to leave without further waiting , but the staff kept saying that the breakfast would be ready soon. Luckily, at the moment when I had to leave, the breakfast arrived and the Muscat Airport was not busy on that day. Read less

Our room was a walk from reception, but the views were worth it. The pool was easily accessible via a close stairwell, which was a bonus. Beer and snacks in the minibar were free, not that food was ever really needed. We did half board, so had breakfast and credit toward dinner each day. My 60th birthday dinner was at Shahrazad the first night, and they covered the table in rose petals. The food was good, and then they brought a decadent birthday cake. It was quite lovely. We ate dinner there another night and at the seafood restaurant twice. (Order the sashimi!) The breakfast buffet was very well done, with plenty of regional options, and the Asian menu items were excellent. Don't miss the Omani sweets. Afternoon tea was a daily highlight, with gorgeous views and amazing staff. Cocktail hour was relaxed with live music and whatever drinks you wanted. We spent a couple of days by the pool, reading and relaxing. There were plenty of chairs and the service was great. They brought a pool cooler with cold drinks and Evian face spritzers, too. We arrived March 8, and while there were plenty of guests, they had a lot of cancellations due to Covid-19. Even at capacity, the hotel would have a relaxed uncrowded vibe, though. Thanks to all for a lovely end to our trip. Read less

After spending a couple of weeks in Jordan touring around we were so looking forward to this stay as our final stop before heading home. We were looking forward to a luxurious week but in summary this hotel is dated, tired and not particularly clean. Our room had a lovely sea view but could have been cleaned better. The glass top to the writing desk was always smeared. Nuts that had been left outside on the patio table had taken 2 days to be removed. Yes, we could have done it ourselves but when you’re paying top dollar for what should be a 5 star hotel then why should we.... The breakfast spread was very disappointing. We had been thoroughly spoilt in the other hotels that we had stayed in with a fabulous array of produce. Service was slow waiting for what seemed like an age for tea & coffee to appear. Orders being taken for ‘cooked’ breakfasts from the menu were very slow. One morning we waited 20 minutes, chased our order and both dishes came out without the usual silver domes and yes, the food was cold so both plates were sent back. We had afternoon tea once. We chose to eat at the beach restaurant late afternoons where in fairness the food was good. We also opted out from having the canapés and drinks early evening. We experienced this twice and couldn’t bear it. It was as though there was a mass exodus to get down as soon as they started serving! On both occasions we arrived in the last 15 minutes of service......and we waited and waited to be served. We have been fortunate enough to have stayed in some of the best hotels in the world and this wasn’t one of them. Read less
