Shangri-La Al Husn Resort & Spa

Oman, Middle East

The hotel

Catering for adults from 16 years and above, every guest gets the royal treatment at Shangri-La Al Husn Resort & Spa, where you’re pampered with free poolside refreshments, treated to afternoon teas, and indulged with pre-dinner cocktails and canapés in the Courtyard a private evening lounge. They’ve even included VIP extras like a complimentary mini-bar and an iPod already loaded with your personalised playlist – giving you the perfect mood music for when you’re kicking off your shoes and sinking into the sands of this palatial hotel’s private cove, or sunbathing around its cliff top infinity pool. Meaning ‘castle’ in Arabic, the Al Husn stands like a citadel on a cliff, with fabulous views over the glittering Gulf of Oman. Its carved doors are guarded by sentry-like doormen, but inside it’s definitely more ‘glamorous’ than ‘fortress’, all facilities are exclusive to Al Husn guests from its regal rooms to its new luxury Hareer Spa by L'Occitance, and its elegant restaurants, with additional dining options at the neighboring sister resort Shangri-La Barr Al Jissah Resort & Spa.

We had high expecations and they were exceeded. The hotel and grounds are stunning. We had high expecations and they were exceeded. The hotel and grounds are stunning. We mixed it up between beach and pool, both were clean, quiet and the free cool boxes with water, juices and face spray was a great touch. We had a deluxe sea view room for a week which was great. Big bed, well maintained, clean, super views from the balcony and free mini-bar (not for alcohol). It was everything we needed for a 7 night stay. The great touches don't stop once you leave the room, beach or pool. Complementary afternoon tea and pre-dinner drinks are a triumph. For 6 of the 7 nights we ate in one of the 2 hotel restaurants and were not disappointed and the staff were fantastic, Special shout out to Aman and Chef Prasad who made us an off-menu special curry night which was gorgeous. However, all the staff across the hotel were great, attentive and made our stay special. We did try one of the restaurants in one of the adjoining sister hotels, the Chow Mee Restaurant, which was disappointing. The food did not live up to the billing of street food and we preferred the quiet, adults only, sophistication of the Al Husn. But, be warned, quiet sophistication does come at a price. Half Board is really an allowance and, if you like wine in the evening as I do, it can be a bit eye-watering. Overall though, we loved it here and it was a great base camp too for the days out we took to experience Oman. We've become a bit tired of Dubai, we chose this for a different Arabian experience and I'd thoroughly recommend it. We'll be back. Read less

This hotel was absolutely perfect. The bays are stunning and the facilities and activities arranged by the hotel are varied and interesting. Our favorite touch was the complimentary afternoon tea served on the terrace, and the complimentary soft drinks and water available in all facilities and in the room minibar. We appreciated the no children policy, especially at breakfast, and we had a wonderful relaxing stay. Check in and checkout were efficient and friendly, and the staff are always at hand but never in your face. The hotel is a 20 minute drive into town and we explored the Matrah souk and a beautiful local restaurant call Kargeen. We travelled with a local taxi driver called Eissa who was recommended by the hotel rather than by hotel car and he was helpful, polite and very reliable about pick up times to return to the hotel. The beach is set in a beautiful bay surrounded by interesting rock formations and the lounge chairs are arranged so shade or sun are an option throughout the day. We will definitely return to this gem of a hotel on the Indian Ocean. Read less

This is our third visit to this hotel. The location is very good in a select location about 5 miles south of Muscat. There is a good selection of restaurants within the complex but be warned they are not cheap and if you like wine it is very expensive. Having said that the standard of food is high and worth price. The pool area is good and the attendants are great. The private Al Husn beach is beautiful and there are body boards and canoes available for you to use. Breakfast service if very good with a wide choice of hot and cold food and the staff in there are great and any problem you mention to them will be reported and dealt with. Happy hour in the main area from 6.00 to 7.00 is great fun and a good chance to meet other guests and the complimentary afternoon tea is superb. This is not a cheap hotel but it is a quality place to stay. We have spent 6 weeks there in the last three years and will be back again next year. Read less

Everything in the hotel is exclusive starting from the breakfast to lounge to afternoon tea to dinner to exclusive beach...........The pool is beautiful, The view is fantastic and the breeze from the sea complete the relaxation. Is not the hotel to use for excursions for me. Is the one to enjoy within. I stayed for two dream days with my wife.
