Shangri-La Al Husn Resort & Spa

Oman, Middle East

The hotel

Catering for adults from 16 years and above, every guest gets the royal treatment at Shangri-La Al Husn Resort & Spa, where you’re pampered with free poolside refreshments, treated to afternoon teas, and indulged with pre-dinner cocktails and canapés in the Courtyard a private evening lounge. They’ve even included VIP extras like a complimentary mini-bar and an iPod already loaded with your personalised playlist – giving you the perfect mood music for when you’re kicking off your shoes and sinking into the sands of this palatial hotel’s private cove, or sunbathing around its cliff top infinity pool. Meaning ‘castle’ in Arabic, the Al Husn stands like a citadel on a cliff, with fabulous views over the glittering Gulf of Oman. Its carved doors are guarded by sentry-like doormen, but inside it’s definitely more ‘glamorous’ than ‘fortress’, all facilities are exclusive to Al Husn guests from its regal rooms to its new luxury Hareer Spa by L'Occitance, and its elegant restaurants, with additional dining options at the neighboring sister resort Shangri-La Barr Al Jissah Resort & Spa.

We have just come back from an amazing two centred holiday starting at this magnificent hotel. The staff were lovely, food excellent and venue idyllic. We participated in some of the on site exercise classes, TRX, circuits and cycling in the pool which was totally novel but quite hilarious. If you want a quiet hotel stay in the Al Husn the other two have families (well catered for) but that might not be your thing. One tip, if you fly in early take a change of clothing, swimmers, as you might not get into your room until later in the day. The Al Husn had a guest lounge with all the facilities you’d need, toilets, showers, soft drinks and snack as well as loungers to fall asleep on after long haul flight which was great. In a nutshell, it’s not cheap, but worth it. If you like a tipple go to the drinks do in the courtyard, it was on 6-7pm when we were there and was buzzing! Read less

This is an amazing Shangri-La property... the hotel is situated on a bay of the Gulf of Oman. The restaurants are ok, the Spa is fantastic and evening setup on the Patio restaurant is very nice. The restaurants also have an exceptional wine selection.

We stayed here for 9 nights recently. Reading the previous dozen or so reviews I'd broadly agree that it's a lovely hotel with very good staff who were always willing to please. This was echoed elsewhere we went in the country. There were however a few points that are worth highlighting. 1. There is no bar in the Al Husn. There is a happy hour between 6 & 7pm and in fact it's very happy as drinks are all complimentary as are a few canopes. If you fancy a night cap though, you'll have to make the journey over to the next door hotel 2. If you're booked on the half board arrangement, you get an allowance of 25 OMR in the A la Carte restaurants, of which there are 2 very nice ones in Al Husn and a number in the other hotels. Alternatively, you can dine for free in the Al Bandoor buffet next door and also have 2 free glasses of wine. It's most definitely not 5 star though and quite busy. With the A la Carte allowance, you have to be on a diet to end up within the limit though. We are not big eaters, but never managed this feat once. 3. Surprisingly not many reviewers pick up on the beach at the Al Husn, which may mean that we're in the minority. It's small, while being picturesque and also does not have that many sun beds. Those it does have are packed very close together such that if you let your arm move to the side, you can almost touch the next pair of beds. On the beach at the other 2 hotels, they are spaced a respectful distance apart but it's altogether a busier beach... I would say, it's one of the poorest beaches in terms of sun beds that we've been on. Read less

This is not our first visit to this piece of heaven, from the moment you arrived to the second we where about to leave, we felt welcomed and served in all aspects. Our original plan was for a quick 3 days getaway, we ended up staying 6 nights. We were offered an upgrade. the size of suite was huge. The view from the suite was breath taking. We had dinner twice in two different restaurants and it was exceptional (BBQ night with Jazz music at Sultana was something not to be missed). The breakfast buffet was filled with endless options. Housekeeping and room services was the fastest ever. They make each guests feels like he/she are the only one in the hotel being served. Everywhere in the hotel, it was a non stop service, it was part of the hotel culture, reflecting the brand DNA. The hotel arranged a private dinner in our suite balcony( since the weather didn't allow us to have an open air dinner experience. Thanks to Ms. Khalthoum for such an amazing arrangement. it took my wife by surprise. The look on my wife face was priceless. We went shopping for spices at the local market, upon our return to hotel, the porter asked if I wanted a box to put all my shopping items, I said yes, my expectations was a box. (I got a box, a new roll of tape and scissors). WOW. Thank you Yousef for your help and insight on Omani Halwa. We spend our last evening at the new spa and it was a very relaxing experience. I wish to thank Mr. Ahmed ElDeeb and each and every member the front desk staff, restaurants staff for an outstanding service. Read less

Yes they are big & with great views but that's all. 3 stars for ambience. Only the lobby felt chic. Anything after that was pretty bad decor taste. 4 stars for architectural design as an overall look. 5 stars for location, scenery, staffing, service, friendliness, buffets & amenities. Yet the design lacks a lot of personality. Best part was no kids under 16 allowed. Access to the rest of hotels, free mini bar, free tea time which was great, free before dinner drinks with live music and bites. Vegetarian options available. Spa was really good & if unable to do late check out, they offer a hospitality lounge till you are ready to leave. Read less
