You could rent a car from the airport to have easy access, the valley will take the car at the door. Just note that in Ramadan, Alcohol is not being served anywhere even in the hotel. Make sure Ramadan is completely over. there is a really nice place between the pool and the lobby in which in the afternoon drinks are being served on the Hotel. You could also use the other hotels related to Shangri La ( not recommended if you are looking for a calming place ) not comparable with AL Husn, nut with nice bar and restaurants. ENJOY YOUR STAY :) Read less

We stayed at the hotel for one night after a fabulous trip to Oman visiting the Hajjar Mountains and Muscat. The Shangri La Al Husn seemed like the right place to relax and unwind. The lobby is tastefully decorated, with the scent of frankincense inviting you in. A prompt check in and we were shown to our room: again beautifully decorated, with all the mod cons and facilities that one would except from a 4/5 star hotel. The programme itself looked nice enough - afternoon tea at 4 ish , cocktails at 7. The whole point of booking a 4 star hotel is for the experience, knowing that that guests will be looked after, by an attentive staff , eager to please and make their stay memorable. We chose to have our afternoon tea outside, on the patio to enjoy the stunning view. Call it nitpicking but as soon as the lady showed us to our table, she disappeared, inside, never to be seen again. The sandwich tray was scarce and at no point did anyone come to our table to enquire about the service and whether we wished to order additional items. We were left there, completely ignored with waiters swarming around , readying the service for dinner time. We later made reservations for dinner at 2100: I ordered a 3 course meal and my husband ordered just a main. The coordination of meals was awful. Again we were on the patio, with the occasional waiter pulling a ghosting act. we waited nearly half an hour between each course ( I had a salad and a soup!) with the main finally served at 11 p.m. By this time, i was tired, no longer hungry and 20 minutes after finishing the main and still waiting for the plates to be taken away, we asked for the dessert to be sent to the room, What stood out was the egregious service. We shrugged off the previous night experience as a one off but soon realised, the following morning, that the poor customer service was in fact an embedded culture. We had, a few days back, had the pleasure of enjoying breakfast at Anantara in Jabel Al Akhdar and the service was faultless. The same could not be said at the Shangri La. They were happy to show us to the table but although i could see hordes of waiters pacing the small restaurant, I couldn't grab anyone's attention apparently. It took us another 15 minutes to order some eggs royale which turned up without the salmon. The rest of the morning was spent by the pool. We raised our concerns with the staff at check out, and although i could see the manager standing only a few metres away, our check out man encouraged us to voice our 'feedback' online before asking for the 286 omani rials. No apology. none whatsoever. My view, if you have the budget and demand a faultless service - drive to The Chedi. Read less

The Shangri-La Al Husn Resort & Spa is a beautiful adult only resort with breath taking views over the Gulf of Oman. The infinity pool and private beach are the undoubted standout features of this property, situated about a 40 minute drive away from Muscat International Airport. Whilst most of the stay was extremely relaxing and memorable, the resort was let down by various instances of miscommunication. 1.) When making this booking 1 month in advance, I specifically called the resort to find out whether there will be any dry days during our stay as we were planning on visiting during the Eid break. I was assured by the customer service agent that it would be "business as usual". I proceeded to make my booking based on this information. Upon checking in however, we were informed that almost 2 out of 3 days of our stay would be dry days. 2.) We were told that the restaurant where breakfast was served each morning had a strict dress code and one was not allowed to wear shorts or sandals. Accordingly we wore trousers and shoes (in 40 degrees heat) and headed to breakfast only to find that everyone was in shorts and sandals. We then had to rush our breakfast and run back to our room to get changed in order to make our dolphin cruise in time. 3.) We were told upon checking in that we would receive 20% discount on food and beverages during our stay as we were Golden Circle members. We found out the next day that this was not the case due to it being Eid week. These instances of miscommunication were an annoyance during an otherwise great break. Special mention to Robert who did his best to make up for these glitches. Additionally, the room service food quality was not of the greatest level. On a positive note, the view from our Deluxe sea view room was magnificent and the Dolphin cruise that you can book through the hotel was unforgettable! The resort also puts on a wonderful cocktail hour every day from 6-7PM in the courtyard which is a great touch. Read less

I could not fault this hotel, from the moment we arrived where we were welcomed by a lovely lady, Kuthunth, (not sure spelt correctly)! She explained everything to us, it was Ramadan so not all the food outlets were open, but it was fine. As it was Ramadan the hotel was very quiet which was also a plus. We booked a sea view room and the view was gorgeous. Had a nice balcony to enjoy. The pool looks over the sea, the pool staff were friendly in fact all the staff were lovely. A nice perk is they give you a mini cool box with water juices and Evian spray. We had room service a couple of times and the food and service was excellent. All the mini bar items are free except for alcohol. The bath products are loccitane It is also an adult only hotel so that’s a plus We even managed to see the turtles 🐢 I would love to go back and highly recommend this hotel for a few days of tranquil bliss. Thank you for making our stay a lovely one of remember Read less
