The lodge is perfectly located at Peak 8, a block from the free gondola and a pedestrian trail that leads below Park Street. Beautiful surroundings with pool and hot tubs. No AC in the summer—enjoy the mountain air by opening windows, which can be noisy depending on the location of the room.

We just returned from a quick two night stay in a 2 bedroom town house. It was very nice! The location was prefect. We go to Breckenridge all the time and this was one of the best places we have rented for the price. It was roomy, clean, had all the essentials for a home away from home. Only “issue” was that we have three kids and I thought I booked a two bedroom with three beds(two beds in the other room) that was not the case and those rooms were all booked when we arrived, unless we wanted to pay for a three bedroom. Room itself was spacious and lovely. Very clean, tastefully furnished. Only negative was a 10 dollar surcharge for an upper floor room which I had requested initially anyway and also a very gloomy dark basement where car parking was available.

We came to Breckinridge apparently during the one week they are between seasons. Ski season shut down the weekend we arrived but the Gondola, alpine coaster, etc. Didn't open until the following weekend. What that meant for us was a vastly private oasis, no crowds and not having to worry about restaurant reservations. The staff here at Mountain Thunder were very polite, friendly and helpful. Our room was a 2 bedroom condo on the 4th floor (room 1403). Two bedrooms, two bathrooms plus an extra shower makes this the perfect unit for a small family or traveling companions. Some of the amenities include: 1) A gas fireplace (on a timer) 2) A kitchen well stocked with cooking supplies. 3) A cute balcony overlooking the gondola with mountain view. 4) Great hot tub. Hot with powerful jets. These aren't the only amenities, but the once that we appreciated the most. Back to the staff...our safe was not operational the first day and the staff went out of their way to not only get it fixed right away, but even followed up with a hand written apology letter. While that was by no means necessary, it was a personal touch that was a pleasant surprise. You are literally across the street from Main Street, a grocery store, and all the restaurants and shopping you could want. We walked everywhere and we are out of shape flatlanders. There are only two potential cons: 1) The road noise. Now, if you have the windows closed you probably won't even notice it. But when we were there, the weather was gorgeous so I had the windows open all night. 2) No A/C. It wasn't an issue for us because the weather was SO nice, but something to keep in mind should you visit during a heat wave. This may only be for this particular condo... not sure if it is the whole Lodge or not. We read that the hotel will provide portable A/C units if the need arises. Some tips for those of you unaccustomed to such a high altitude environment (aka flatlanders): 1) Get some cardio in before you get here. Seriously. You are at 9600' This altitude is no joke. 2) Stay hydrated. 3) If you are interested in hiking, check out the AllTrails app (apple or android). There are tons of trails in and around the area to explore. 4) Dining options: Hearthstone was my favorite dining destination (make reservations if possible), and Aurum was a close second. They are a little pricey, but very very good. A cheaper option is Kenosha. Great happy hour deals. Read less
