Basecamp Hotel

Heavenly, Lake Tahoe

The hotel

Effortlessly cool, Basecamp’s a playful take on a ski lodge, with its industrial fittings, dark colour scheme, reclaimed wood detailing, and oversized leather sofas adding a modern twist worthy of any interior design show. Social spaces include The Barn, hosting complimentary breakfasts, which opens onto the Beer Garden, where picnic tables and Adirondack chairs are the setting for craft brews, gourmet hot chocolate, games of ‘cornhole’, s’mores around the fire pits, complimentary WiFi, and seasonal communal dinners like chilli and fondue. Then there’s the Spa Deck, with its 16 seater hot tub featuring mountain views. As a ‘basecamp’, it’s geared up for winter and summer recreation – with free parking, a private beach, bike and ski kit storage, and a spot 4 minutes from Heavenly Mountain Gondola and 10 minutes from Lakeside Beach and Marina.

If you want posh and fancy, look elsewhere. If you want clean, comfortable, friend (even dog), convenient to the Lake and Heavenly Mountain, etc... This is your place, and with happy hour. We thoroughly loved it.

The hotel is great. Beds are a little uncomfortable (too soft & sinking) but the rooms are spacious. We had a king room with a balcony this last time, which was roomy and perfect to travel with our 3 month old. The brewery was closed our entire stay for plumbing issues... Which I know we can t control, but having a place to hang out on the grounds was the main reason for our stay since we had the baby. So we could enjoy our time & be close to hotel room if we needed to head back. That being said, the location is great... You can't beat it. The breakfast is decent (coffee is wonderful & love the hard-boiled eggs) and lobby lounge is fun to hang in and grab a drink. We went during the week and after a holiday, so we got a good deal on this booking, but I know it gets expensive. All in all, great place for families... They're let friendly, too. Really fun vibe. A couple of things that detracted... first, every time I entered the lobby/office area there was an overwhelming smell of lemon chemical cleaner. I appreciate the effort of trying to maintain cleanliness, but the atmosphere was unpleasant because of the smell. Maybe pine scented since you're in the Sierra's? I appreciate the effort of trying to maintain cleanliness, but the atmosphere was unpleasant because of the smell. Maybe pine scented since you're in the Sierra's? The hot tub over the office was not in use, full of debris and garbage with no explanation, though its listed as an amenity on the website. The place was fun and low key, a nice Tahoe vibe, but lots of garbage, renovation materials and equipment? are kind of laying all over the property, under the covered parking and in the parking lot. Had a great time. We loved making s’mores, playing games and fitting our family of six in one room. Staff was very friendly. Kids loved the place and the food. Looking forward to coming back. Next stay we hope to stay longer.
