Basecamp Hotel

Heavenly, Lake Tahoe

The hotel

Effortlessly cool, Basecamp’s a playful take on a ski lodge, with its industrial fittings, dark colour scheme, reclaimed wood detailing, and oversized leather sofas adding a modern twist worthy of any interior design show. Social spaces include The Barn, hosting complimentary breakfasts, which opens onto the Beer Garden, where picnic tables and Adirondack chairs are the setting for craft brews, gourmet hot chocolate, games of ‘cornhole’, s’mores around the fire pits, complimentary WiFi, and seasonal communal dinners like chilli and fondue. Then there’s the Spa Deck, with its 16 seater hot tub featuring mountain views. As a ‘basecamp’, it’s geared up for winter and summer recreation – with free parking, a private beach, bike and ski kit storage, and a spot 4 minutes from Heavenly Mountain Gondola and 10 minutes from Lakeside Beach and Marina.

Clean room, comfortable bed, hot shower with good water pressure, cute lobby, friendly lobby staff, breakfast is fine, tasty in-house brews, free parking, hot tub is hot, outdoor fire places are great, close to Heavenly, you can walk to nearby restaurants & casinos, etc. We would stay here again!

Loved the location and everything was awesome. The only things I would of liked was an elevator since I did have a baby with me so was a little hard to walk up the stairs and take the stroller up, and a slightly bigger shower. Besides that hospitality, service and beer garden were stupendous.

This is your typical lipstick on a pig motel transformation. The room finishes are just okay. The old construction of the building really shows in that we weren't able to sleep in as the floor above provides no noise barrier from the occupants in the upstairs unit. The floor creaked horribly. Other than the trendy vibe that they are trying to sell you on and the beer garden and I use that term loosely, this place isn't worth the money. The location is the only thing they have going for them. Read less

This is our second stay at this location, and first in the winter. The location is great - 5 minute walk from Heavenly village and lots of dining, plus a few equipment rental places. When we first checked in, our assigned room was not cleaned (at 4:30pm). The follow up room was in disrepair. The sink was completely backed up. The sunscreen was crooked and could not roll up and down. Worst of all, the bathroom door was hung on the bottom hinge because the top two were torn from the wall!! Because of this, the door dragged on the floor and was difficult to latch. Fortunately, maintenance fixed it early the next day and we were given 50% off the first night’s charge, but that’s a pretty ridiculous oversight. I don’t think the value of this place is worth the price tag, and I was shocked by these issues, but the location is very good and there is definitely a charm to the common areas and bar here. We could not find the elevator and had to carry our daughter who is handicapped up two very large flights of stairs to the third floor. The web site says pet friendly and yet, when trying to make a reservation online, it's unclear which rooms are ones that can be booked which allow pets. We could not find the elevator and had to carry our daughter who is handicapped up two very large flights of stairs to the third floor. The web site says pet friendly and yet, when trying to make a reservation online, it's unclear which rooms are ones that can be booked which allow pets. The room rate said $332 on Priceline and on arrival we were billed over $900 for two nights. Not clear why the cost was suddenly much more and we will inquire why the big increase. Read less
