Basecamp Hotel

Heavenly, Lake Tahoe

The hotel

Effortlessly cool, Basecamp’s a playful take on a ski lodge, with its industrial fittings, dark colour scheme, reclaimed wood detailing, and oversized leather sofas adding a modern twist worthy of any interior design show. Social spaces include The Barn, hosting complimentary breakfasts, which opens onto the Beer Garden, where picnic tables and Adirondack chairs are the setting for craft brews, gourmet hot chocolate, games of ‘cornhole’, s’mores around the fire pits, complimentary WiFi, and seasonal communal dinners like chilli and fondue. Then there’s the Spa Deck, with its 16 seater hot tub featuring mountain views. As a ‘basecamp’, it’s geared up for winter and summer recreation – with free parking, a private beach, bike and ski kit storage, and a spot 4 minutes from Heavenly Mountain Gondola and 10 minutes from Lakeside Beach and Marina.

We LOVED Basecamp! The games and beer garden made the stay super fun and the location was walkable for dining, shopping, and beach time! The only drawback was that the room was way too hot! An air conditioner was installed but not operating.

I have stated this property several times including right after it opened. The previous management ran a much tighter ship. Several things occurred on this trip. Breakfast was anemic if not laughable. The options were very basic with what appear to be almost no thought given to choice or selection. Coffee was often not even ready by 7:30 in the morning. Front desk and overall Staff appeared inexperienced unaand andp trained. They had to call manager via cell phone for almost every issue I brought to then. The room 201,was extremely hot upon check in. The hotel has wall air-conditioning, however the install is not complete in many rooms. They brought in a mobile air conditioner (floor model) that exhausted out a window via a flexible pipe. Unfortunately this only created more heat radiating from the exhaust pipe which was run over a fabric couch out the window. Overall I was not very happy with the stay. The front desk staff did comp a nigh of the stay, it's a shame a property with all this potential trying to run super lean thereby reducing guest comfort and satisfaction. on a separate note there's only one maintenance person for a 74 room hotel. This is insufficient a creates a difficult situation for the one maintenance person who is over tasked and under supported. Read less

The room is clean and the staff is friendly but the grounds are dirty and not well maintained. The live music is disappointing. No fire pits, dirty patio. Maybe if I was 22 it would be appealing...not impressed for the hefty price tag of $350 a night.
