Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Lake Tahoe

Heavenly, Lake Tahoe

The hotel

Newly renovated to a rock and roll standard, the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Resort is ideally placed in South Lake Tahoe to take advantage of just about everything! As well as a casino with slot machines and table games, it’s home to the largest outdoor pool in the area. Bag yourself a lounger, there’s plenty of them, and order a cool cocktail from the bar, soaking up the relaxed vibe. All the rooms are well equipped and spacious and there’s even an Elvis Suite. Yep, the great man himself stayed here whilst performing in the town in the 1970s and Hard Rock have come along and paid homage to that fact – as is only right! Other delights include the Park Prime Steakhouse, often home to live music and the Fire Break Kitchen & Bar. Center Bar is another place where live concerts are often held, full of cool blues and dramatic blacks; it’s a great place to while away an uber cool evening. Open 24/7 is The Oyster Bar, the first-ever raw seafood bar of its kind on the South Shore – chow down on fresh seasonal oysters as well as American classics such as gumbo, jambalaya and pan roasts. When you can tear yourself away from the hotel, the hiking trails are some of the most beautiful in the world – explore them on foot or reception will hire you a bike.

We spent several nights. Never again will we stay here. Room was ok but after the first day if you don’t ask for more coffee, creamer, cups, towels most days we didn’t get it. I had to leave notes on exactly what we wanted. We were in the old tower part and EVERY single door made loud creaking noises opening & closing. So loud that it wakes everyone up whether it’s ours or anyone on the floor. So bring your own WD 40 since HRH is too cheap to get it. Beds are old & the mattress side support is completely shot so if you like super soft beds then these are for you. No where to unpack your clothes meaning no dresser so for 2 ppl we used the only one drawer nightstand. In the pics it looks like there’s plenty of storage but it’s false front looking cabinets. Closet very small & used the top of Safe to lay clothes. There was plenty of “free” parking but we paid over $300 in “resort;destination;tax fees so it’s NOT free parking. No complementary breakfast or meals included, WiFi was crappy & kept going out until we bitched...then surprise...it worked fairly good after that. At first they said it’s because the building we’re in is old, then pointed out that we’re paying the same as the new’er’ tower. Even though we wer told we’d get a military discount, they refused at checkout. We knew it was going to be a poor stay when you have a new trainee whining about using the AC too much and to just open the windows instead...but yet they only open about 4”. Never have we experienced or heard anyone tell us...when paying a ridiculous room price about the AC usage in a whinny voice...yes, she was probably 18-20yrs but she had to be trained to say that which is absolute BS. Asked if the newspapers arrived and again the little brunette whiner says No, not yet, then I turn around and there they were right on the counter. The complete lack of not giving us the military discount anywhere in the hotel really is the kicker. I’m reading the questions below and find it funny that they ask questions of the amenities they have like pet friendly, a safe in the room etc. They don’t take customer satisfaction seriously at this location and doesn’t honor any other Hard Rock Hotel points. We’ve stayed at other HRH’s but this one didn’t come close to other ones in accommodations & amenities. Most other staff outside of check in was actually nice & didn’t whine. The hallway from checkin to old tower smells of mildew. No balcony on any floor except end units that we could see. The Oyster Bar was very good & enjoyed the jambalaya. Read less

We forgot our travel cot/crib last minute and went to hire one for $35/night which is staggering. We are travelling from Aus and are not use to such over the top fees for a cot/crib. That equates to around $65 AUD/night so just remember to bring your own! Also I think it’s very cheeky that they have most TV channels EXCEPT the kids channels. Instead they charge you $14.95 plus tax for the “privilege”. Not cool guys! Again this is unheard of and we are avid travellers! Just keep in mind when booking! As a couple this hotel would suit our needs far better although the restaurant here we tried is very family friendly so there’s that! Read less

Food is disgusting in the Alpine Union Bar and Grill in the Hard Rock hotel. We recently went there as a family. No one could finish their food and some of it was barely touched. No one came to our table during dinner to check if everything was ok. Then, when I complained the manageress called security before she would start to talk to me. In all… Read more

No one came to our table during dinner to check if everything was ok. Then, when I complained the manageress called security before she would start to talk to me. In all my years of travel and eating around the world I have never been treated so badly. I eventually paid the bill minus one meal as I was about to get arrested. Read less

I was disappointed after all these years I go back to the casino at Hard Rock, Harrahs and Harveys and they all smell like ashtrays. I guess taking chances includes with your lungs. I guess the mountain air is balances the smell.

Construction started outside our window before 9am. This was not the start of a great vacation. The room has almost no accessible outlets. There was no clock in the room so our phones had to be the time keeper & alarm. For newly updated hotel, things just don’t make sense. No mini fridge? Hot/cold in shower unpredictable. No air, just open windows… Read more

No air, just open windows w/ no screens? and only one outlet??? We can find better in 2019 for the same price. The only positive was the room and bathrooms were clean. Wouldn’t recommend. Read less
