Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Lake Tahoe

Heavenly, Lake Tahoe

The hotel

Newly renovated to a rock and roll standard, the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Resort is ideally placed in South Lake Tahoe to take advantage of just about everything! As well as a casino with slot machines and table games, it’s home to the largest outdoor pool in the area. Bag yourself a lounger, there’s plenty of them, and order a cool cocktail from the bar, soaking up the relaxed vibe. All the rooms are well equipped and spacious and there’s even an Elvis Suite. Yep, the great man himself stayed here whilst performing in the town in the 1970s and Hard Rock have come along and paid homage to that fact – as is only right! Other delights include the Park Prime Steakhouse, often home to live music and the Fire Break Kitchen & Bar. Center Bar is another place where live concerts are often held, full of cool blues and dramatic blacks; it’s a great place to while away an uber cool evening. Open 24/7 is The Oyster Bar, the first-ever raw seafood bar of its kind on the South Shore – chow down on fresh seasonal oysters as well as American classics such as gumbo, jambalaya and pan roasts. When you can tear yourself away from the hotel, the hiking trails are some of the most beautiful in the world – explore them on foot or reception will hire you a bike.

Giving Hard Rock Tahoe the benefit of the doubt, the July 4th holiday and COVID, we likened our stay to that of a Maximum Security Prison. During our 4 day stay we experienced multiple Fire Alarms sending us out of the building in the middle of the night, doors constantly slamming around us so hard we could feel the vibration from the bed, people yelling throughout the hallways around the clock, a next door domestic disturbance which sounded so violent, we came close to dialing 911 when hotel security did not arrive after our report of it (we do not know the status of the woman who was being thrown against the wall or furniture and screaming for help), 4 phones calls and a trip to the front desk to get shower towels and bed linen, uncontrollable shower water temperatures, an air conditioning system whose sound could be compared to the engines of the jet we flew in on, witnessing a man reliving himself out a hotel window while another hung laundry out, garbage piled up outside the back parking lot entrance. And of course the daily ritual of people barfing in the parking lot and hedges adding that extra touch of class. If there was ever a candidate for Undercover Boss, this property clearly qualifies. I would suggest the General Manager and his significant other stay in a room (preferably near an ice machine, fire exit or elevator) throughout a busy weekend and experience the quality of the property for themselves. Strongly do not recommend this hotel. Staff Friendliness - 3 Stars Service - 0 Stars Noise - 0 Stars Accommodations - 2 Stars Location - 3 Stars Cleanliness - 1 Star Average - 1.5 Stars Read less

WHAT??? no coffee maker, no microwave in the rooms, wth? no sanitation, no open gym or shop, understaffed, unfriendly workers. 2 elevators in service, only 4 people at a time.. had to wait 5-10 minutes for the elevators on average.. 2 towels, were told if we wanted another towel we had to turn one in?? why??? Alpine Union was were we ate, twice the food was horrible, not serving food on the patio, but you could order at the bar and take it out there, that is what we were told then got yelled at by the staff?? had the shrimp tacos, so bad. the shrimp were boiled with no seasoning, served with lettuce only on a cold tortilla, no sauce, no lemon, no salsa, the rice was old and crunchy, couldn't even eat it and the black beans were cold and runny.. breakfast inside not much better. took 10 minutes to seat us.. had the eggs bennidict, eggs were cooked ok served on a cold non-toasted english muffin with lumpy sauce, cold potatoes on the side, asked for fruit, said she was out. had to go down stairs each morning for coffee from the sports bar, it was a dirty station that i never saw even once being cleaned, they give you half a cup of coffee and guess what, they ran out of creamers?? sucktastic.. this is a shame, HR should shoot it and put this place out of its misery... never ever stay here... we got had.. I came to Hard Rock Cafe and Casino Lake Tahoe on 4th of July, 2020. Paid $430 for the room plus $65 for the dog (I am traveling with my dog). The staff at the reception had an attitude. The room was very small, TV didn’t work. There is no coffee/tea maker in the room (you can get those even in Days Inn). I didn’t even get a nice view for this amount of money. The hotel is very old, bathroom is so small that if you are higher than 5’5” you can’t fit in there. And guess what I couldn’t even use any of the amenities because they closed the pool for private event and casino wouldn’t allow pets. I had the worst 4th of July weekend and they wouldn’t refund my money since I booked the room at the same day and it is non-refundable reservation, nevermind the fact that I wanted to leave as soon as I saw the room and found out about all these rules. Giving it one star just because I can’t give less. Be aware of surly manager Jessica with no last name that doesn’t have the authority/desire to resolve any issues related to customer concerns. I called a few hours ahead and booked a double queen. I didn’t ask for anything special as I knew it was short notice, I just wanted the best deal. Room amenities were sparse, no coffee, no AC, basic bathroom, etc. In addition, the room was somewhat shabby; not well maintained. I do a lot of traveling and rooms like this usually go for 100 bucks or less. I wouldn’t be writing this review if I hadn’t paid nearly three times that amount on a Wednesday night. Most of the shops and restaurants were also closed. I know that part is not really the fault of the hotel, but it certainly didn’t add anything positive to the experience. If you’re considering this hotel, I will say the customer service was decent and location is good, but you want to be selective with your room. Read less

The rooms were very clean and a nice size. The beds were very comfortable and I can not express how plush the pillows were. The front desk was very helpful, with easy check-in and check-out. We were able to go to the pool and lounge on the chairs for a bit, way better than going to the crowded beaches. The Bloody Mary's are delicious at the Alpine Union Bar and restaurant. Such a great weekend getaway. Thanks Hard Rock! Read less
