Hotel Becket

Heavenly, Lake Tahoe

The hotel

Part boutique hotel, part ‘upcycled’ lodge, 968 Park Hotel’s every bit as rustic as it is luxurious. Handmade furniture fills the guestrooms – some made from Douglas fir rescued from an old Nevada mine. Your bedding’s anything but homespun though, with luxury mattresses and organic linens helping ease muscles tired from winter sports like skiing and snowshoeing, or from laps of the heated pool in summer. You get complimentary parking (and WiFi), but it’s just minutes’ walk from Lake Tahoe’s biggest draws: Heavenly Mountain Gondola, the Stateline casinos, and the shoreline. Whatever time you return, the CoffeePub will be open, with craft coffees or microbrews served 24-hours a day; but make sure you’re back in time for Friday night’s wine tastings with local vintners, followed by live acoustic music sessions.

Very deceptive place. I called in a week before our three day stay to verify that we would get a specific room in a specific building that overlooks the grassy activity area where music is played, outdoor games are provided and you can get drinks and food from the ten crows restaurant that is attached to the hotel. They assured us all was as planned. When we get there we were informed that the room we requested and the building we wanted to be in was being painted and upgraded. The ten crows was closed for ten days and the whole recreation area was unavailable since the construction crews were working on the building. So we end up without the room we wanted, without any of the amenities they claim to offer. They even had the nerve to charge a $20 a night resort fee. There is no workout room, no pool available and no recreation area at the facility to use. Why do they get a resort fee? Total rip off and very shady of this place not to tell us about all this. Also, I went to the the free breakfast and the guy in charge had the door locked at 7:10 am and was reading the newspaper. Wouldn't get up to unlock the door. Never got breakfast since I was so angry I went to Starbucks across the street instead. Read less

We stayed in the Tahoe Blue rooms and when we first walked into the room we both said “SMALL” but the room served the purpose and we actually were surprised that the size didn’t bother us. You can tell that they spent money on the renovations to make the hotel feel rustic comfy. The bed was AMAZING and we had a great nights sleep! The bathroom… Read more

Stayed one night with my family. Everyone was so kind and welcoming to us. Special thanks to Erin Jamison who was very accommodating and helpful to making some last minute changes and requests. Great Happy hour and free parking.

Loved the memory foam mattress. Enjoyed the surrounds. Great food. For as much as my husband and paid for this room for two days, I was disappointed that I couldn't take a shower because of mold around the shower floor.

This is neither condemnation nor high praise. Just be aware that this is one of those 1950s/1960s South Lake Tahoe construction motels that has had a lot of lipstick applied to the pig to make it minimally acceptable in the 21st century. This is neither condemnation nor high praise. Just be aware that this is one of those 1950s/1960s South Lake Tahoe construction motels that has had a lot of lipstick applied to the pig to make it minimally acceptable in the 21st century. The redecoration and photos are VERY Instagram friendly and overstate the condition of the place. It still has paper thin walls so you can crisply hear the dialogue of whatever is streaming on Netflix of the person in the next room. The bathrooms probably have the same toilets from 1965 and the heater/AC unit is a loud wall unit that makes light sleepers stay up at night. Having said all of that, the location is almost perfect if you are skiing at Heavenly. The staff are trying their best and are gracious and friendly. Since it is remodeled, the carpet is pretty clean. The sheets are as well. And the memory foam mattresses are (at least for the time being) comfortable as well. So, much like South Lake in general, it's rundown and old at the core, but the staff try their best to make do with what they have. Read less
