I have been going to the Ridge for many years and worried that htis year wouldn't be as good since there had been so many negative reviews recently. The check in and check out process went very smoothly and I felt that the resort staff were trying their best to be helpful although I think they may be short staffed. The tennis pro, Adam, is great and the tennis program is well done. My husband went on the hikes that were provided and he enjoyed them as well. The gym was open and masks were required, but I often noticed people working out without their masks-a sign is needed in the gym reminding people to wear their masks. They provided disinfecting wipes and hand sanitizer in the gym. Our unit was clean and we had mid week housekeeping who did a good job. Read less

We are 20 year veteran Interval International time share owners. We exchanged out for a week in a 2 bed 2 bath condo with kitchen, huge living room and huge deck with BBQ at The Ridge at Lake Tahoe, even though we were fully aware of the fact that this particular resort has been purchased by Holiday Inn IHG in November 2019. Our reason: We could drive here and did not have to fly here! During these covid times, that is a huge deal. But we were not disappointed! Not at all...! Yes, they have lost many employees due to covid and the IHG purchase, but we really did thoroughly enjoy our one week here. The old faithful employees are doing a fantastic job wearing multiple hats while training the newbies! For example, Jeff, our veteran hiking guide took us on 2 spectacular hikes in the backwoods near the resort. We enjoyed every minute of those hikes, face masks notwithstanding! And then Adam, our veteran tennis instructor, did an absolutely fabulous job teaching us newbies how to play tennis! And both these experiences were free: no charge at all.... wow! We also tried out their putting range, table tennis, racquet ball and pickle ball sports. Enjoyed all of them! They provided us with all the racquets and all the balls for free. Again.... wow! The food from their Bistro restaurant was awesome, even though, due to covid, we had to pick it up and eat in our room... so what?! The food was so tasty! When we called them over the phone, 3 weeks before we went there, the lady who answered the phone, Debbie, was beyond awesome! She was very patient and answered all our 100 questions. We even ended up trying out some of her suggested venues: visiting the historical Virginia City, Nevada, and going up the mountain in the Heavenly Gondola, both of which were superb experiences! Thank you Debbie! Remember, if you are at a time share resort, do not expect them to clean your room every day! This is normal. Also, we ended up emptying our trash every other day into the dumpster at the parking garage level, no problems or complaints at all. Also, remember that this resort is at least 40 years old, so don't expect everything to be brand new, what a silly expectation that would be yes?! Now we did luck out on one big thing: The week we were there, there was no smoke from any California wild fires blowing into the Lake Tahoe basin. Apparently, just the week before and the weeks after, mucho mucho smoke has been blowing on the wind into the Lake Tahoe basin. But that is not the fault of the resort or its employees yes?! Even at the pool, everybody maintained the 6 foot rule, which was awesome. All the employees were wearing masks, but not all the guests were wearing masks, so whose fault is that?! The only so-called complaint we have was that the indoor tennis "bubble" facility was a little humid or stuffy. So we switched and played on the outdoor tennis court instead. Problem solved! Ok, there is one more complaint: none of the lock boxes in the rooms seem to work. They ran out of batteries long ago, and management does not seem to care? We just don't take expensive jewellery with us or large amounts of cash with us, when we travel. We learned to do that 15 years ago. Problem solved! So overall, I would give these guys very high marks: yes, they have earned our 5 star rating on Trip Advisor, mainly because of how hard we observed their employees and management are trying to make this tough situation work and also because of the wonderful experience we actually had there. Good job guys! Keep up the excellent effort! Read less

Furniture (other than beds);are very old and in need of updating. Dining chairs sink in the middle so very uncomfortable. Kitchen well equipped. We were unfortunate to visit during a heat wave and had smoke from the fires. Hard to keep the room clear and cool but the one bedroom did allow for some cross ventilation. The studio unit did not and it was extremely warm for our guests. The garage in that building was filled with exhaust. Beds are sleep number, so at least the sleeping was comfortable. Didn’t take advantage of amenities but they looked nice. Read less

We checked into the Ridge and found that their COVID19 process was very good. There was communication via text as to what to do and it all went quickly and efficiently, not so with some of the other “gerbil wheels” we have experienced with other processes. We checked into the Ridge and found that their COVID19 process was very good. There was communication via text as to what to do and it all went quickly and efficiently, not so with some of the other “gerbil wheels” we have experienced with other processes. The reception team gets an A on that one. The property is located at 7,500’ and the view and forests are breathtaking. There is a heavy haze from fires near Reno but there is no noticeable smell of smoke. The temperature is in the low 80’s on the mountain and the evenings cool off nicely with the windows open. Try for a room as high as possible (we are on floor 7) facing the lake and close the curtains when you get up to prevent the rooms from the morning sun heating the rooms. Fans are provided but the altitude and air make for some dry noses! Bring along a spray sinus moisturizer. There are plenty of activities and things to do on property but no conceriege to help with off site activities. We stay at many time shares around the world and most have some difficulties to overcome and each have strengths and weaknesses. The suites are large and comfortable and were easy to locate with the maps provided. Parking is good but somewhat limited in covered spaces. The living and bedrooms are furnished and clean, not so for the kitchen and baths. Both bathrooms had dust, hair and dirt in the corners and tubs. The shampoo and soaps provided were small, too small, easily dropped while showering. The hair in baths and showers was areal turnoff. The master bath had no bath towels, small pool towels were substituted and after a longer than wished wait, arrived. We were preparing dinner and needed a spatula to flip some pancakes and there was none to be found. After 2 calls and 60 minutes later, a person showed up with a frying pan. When I called, politely to point out the wait and incorrect delivery, I was told by the operator.... (this is a major reason for my lower rating) “You know, there are 900 rooms.” WHAT! I pointed out that they were certainly not close to full occupancy and what does that have to do with poor service! Either you are in the tourist business or not, that is management’s issue, not mine and should never be communicated as an excuse. I have to admit that I have not heard that one used! I have heard that there is low staff but that’s not my problem either. I could blame the reception operator but is actually poor management process and lack of training! Shame on you Holiday Inn Vacation group. We may return but will certainly will explore our other travel accommodations. Read less

This was a last minute booking, traded via Interval. The location is great, away from the craziness around the lake, our 2 bed 2 bath suite with large balcony is great. We've enjoyed the hiking trails directly behind our tower. Sadly, I would only return here if there were no other options in the area. I'd rather have a smaller slightly dated suite if I knew it was clean. Upon arrival - a used Kleenex under the table at the side of the bed (almost impossible not to see it), previous guest must have had long dark hair because it was still on the bathroom floor. Breakfast bar not cleaned, you could see the stains. On check-in you have an option for zero cleaning, mid-week cleaning with replacement towels only, or mid-week cleaning with replacement towels and bedding. We opted for the latter. Yesterday was cleaning day. Trash emptied, clean towels and bedding. That's it. Zero additional cleaning. No vacuuming. Used Kleenex still under the table. Hair still on the bathroom floor. Not even the crumbs around the toaster were cleaned (which in our haste to leave for a scheduled trip I'd not wiped myself). Oh, but whoever was in our room took a $1 bill from my son's nightstand. Believe me, a teen boy's nightstand is not an empty space, it was clear it wasn't a cleaning tip. On the plus side, because of Covid I'd packed my own cleaning supplies, which have been used, a LOT.
