On my way to the hotel - less than 1/4 of a mile from the entrance - my car lost control on the snowy/icy road and ended up hitting some poles on the side of the road. My car was stuck in the snow and lost its rear bumper. It needed to be towed to a body shop. I called the hotel to ask if they could get my luggage and skis and bring them to the hotel while I waited for the tow truck. Ten minutes later, the manager Paul came out personally in his car to pick up my things. I was so grateful. My son and I waited in our car during a snow blizzard for the tow truck to come. After twenty minutes had passed, we saw Paul’s car pull up again. In his suit and dress shoes, Paul came over to our car again. This time, he was carrying hot chocolate, hot breakfast burritos, snacks and glove warmers for us. He didn’t know how long we would have to wait and wanted us to be warm and comfortable. I was so touched by this level of service and after all I had just endured. We enjoyed these comforts in our car while we waited for the tow truck. Thirty minutes later Paul came a third time to pick my son and I up and bring us to the hotel. I travel a lot around the world and have very high standards for customer service at five star properties. I can’t think of a stronger example of customer service - in these frigid conditions nonetheless - than what Paul delivered. It truly set the bar and I will forever be appreciative of how he helped during a traumatic event. I did end up staying during the last weekend of the ski season - and the last week the hotel was open during the COVID crisis. The staff all around was so wonderful and accommodating during this. I feel for all of those in the travel industry whose jobs and livelihoods are being affected by this pandemic. I sincerely hope the management retains their remarkable staff at this property. We have stayed at many Ritz Carlton properties before and greatly enjoyed them. This experience was the worst we have ever had at a Ritz, by far. On a Saturday morning, we were woken up starting at 5:30 am by trucks and other vehicles driving around and moving things loudly for at least an hour, making it very difficult to sleep. On Sunday, we went downstairs to find that our ski equipment was not readily retrievable. We waited for an entire hour before staff at the ski concierge were able to locate it (despite having returned it on Saturday and giving our room number, per usual). After we were done skiing for the day, we returned our equipment in an orderly fashion once again, but when we went to leave the hotel we found that some, but not all of our ski equipment had been loaded into our car. We waited another hour as various people tried to locate it. Finally, all of the equipment was located — with the exception of my ski boots. We were told these would be mailed to us. On our ride home, a kind woman named Michelle called me to tell me that another guest had just called her to tell her that he had my ski boots!! My name was placed on them by the rental agency, which allowed him to trace me. By sheer luck, this guest also lived in Berkeley and was able to return the boots for us. We can hardly imagine what would have happened had this guest lived elsewhere or not been so kind. A guest services manager named Paul Sanchez said he would like to speak to me regarding what occurred, but has subsequently not returned my calls or emails. Read less

UnfortunatelyI had a terrible meal - I ordered the crispy haddock tacos which sounded wonderful but the fish was so tough as to be inedible. When the waitress asked how it was, I told her and the chef came out, apologized and asked if I would like something else. I politely declined as by this time I had lost interest. I was surprised when the bill came that we were still charged for my meal. Very disappointing for such a high-class establishment. Read less
