Our return visit to the Ritz Carlton was perfect. From the service to the location to the ambiance and to the Club, it was a perfect 4 day respite from the day to day routine. We continue to be guests knowing that all will always be great.

What a lovely property - it fits perfectly into the setting and it just gorgeous. The rooms are lovely, and the views from every room are spectacular. Location is good - close to Truckee and the Lake. Spa is really nice and dining on site really yummy too.

Upon approach to the hotel, you become inspired by the location and Picturesque setting on Northstar mountain. Once checking in, you realize that if you are a frequent traveler , especially with the RC brand, this hotel will not meet your expectations . Prior to the trip, I was concerned about the ability of the hotel to handle food allergies, especially after reading many of the sub-par reviews. I talked with Bruce who responds with the canned response of “call me” when there are complaints. He assured me that all of my concerns would be addressed and I talked with many of the staff ahead of time to make avoid any issues. Needless to say, it was to no avail. Starting with our first night in the living room, where the wings were massively undercooked, our repeated requests to accommodate gluten and dairy allergies were not handled correctly. My family and I continually were contaminated resulting having to spend a significant amount of time being sick in our room. It was so ridiculous that even in the club level, when assured that the soup was gluten and dairy free, it was delivered with noodles and cheese ! As others have mentioned, being a titanium platinum member means absolutely nothing. Room upgrades are not given even when the hotel is not at max occupancy as it is mid week. Upon check out, I asked the day before that my skis be brought from the ski valet into my car due to an early morning departure. I was told that this would be done. When checking out the next morning, not only did they not put the skis in the car, but my skis were lost. After 30 minutes they were found and the staff said that since the ski concierge was outsourced to TruNorth last year, service has plummeted. I had to rush to the airport and barely made my flight. The setting of the hotel is unbelievable and it really makes for a great ski experience. We had unbelievable weather and snow conditions. The spa is amazing but the 6pm closure doesn’t make sense especially with lat appointments at 5 pm. This could be a fantastic hotel if it stopped resting on then”it’s a resort hotel” attitude and embrace the Ritz Carlton philosophy that travelers expect when staying at an RC property Read less

We sat outside around the firepit for lunch while skiing and ordered some hot chocolate alcoholic drinks, the Brussel sprouts appetizer and the cheese plate. Our server was super friendly and accommodating. There was also a champagne and oyster bar from which we ordered some extra shrimp cocktail. They were surprisingly reasonably priced and the portions so large it was hard for my husband and I to finish everything, and we are pretty big eaters. We really enjoyed the fire pit area, eating, watching the skiers and chatting with other guests around the fire. It gave us just enough rest time to get back on the slopes for the afternoon even if you aren’t staying at the Ritz, it’s a nice place to have a drink. Read less

I just read the 4 or 5 reviews below....ABSOLUTELY accurate in all ways. The location is fantastic right on the mountain. The resort is fairly new and beautiful. The lobby (living room) was a perfect place to meet and hang out. The rooms were beautiful, well appointed and spacious. The food in the restaurants was very good. So all sounds great....until you experience the service. Bellman service - non existent. Try and get a drink in the living room - very difficult. Once you get a drink (or a few)..the glasses and plates pile up until you move them to a desk or away from your table. Cleanliness of public spaces...very poor. I had to ask a waiter (who was placing a living room placard on the table) to clean the nights before spills and crumbs. Room housekeeping...sometimes they will do turn down...something they won't. Water by the ski rentals...empty. Outside grilling area...looks like a tornado hit it. Billing errors by the front desk...numerous. Try and get a refill coffee at the restaurant in the AM - good luck. The bar closing down on a Saturday night before closing time - seriously. This is one of the most beautiful Ritz properties...This is the ABSOLUTELY worst run Ritz property. Unless all the above (plus more) are corrected, I wouldn't recommend booking a vacation here. This resort gets a 5 star for location, food and the hotel and a 1 star for service....seriously. The average is 3 stars and that is what I gave. Read less
