Be aware that this hotel has a 60 day cancellation policy, so if you book with points and then cancel in a reasonable time, say over 30 days, they will charge your credit card thousands of dollars for a stay that you aren't even going to enjoy!!!!!!

The best thing about the Ritz Tahoe is the ski in/ski out and the ski concierge. Visually its a beautiful hotel. We stayed 5 nights over New Years Eve, and the hotel was completely full. The King room had 4 [2 adults & 2 kids] of us staying, with a rollaway bed. No chance of an upgrade to 2 double beds, with our Platinum Elite status as the hotel was full. Resort fee per night is $50 + tax, and valet parking is $45 per night. Rollaway bed is $75 per night. Housekeeping was good, until the 4th and 5th day, nobody cleaned our room and when we came back from a long day skiing with kids, and just wanted a hot bath, that was a problem. We had to call multiple times to get staff to clean our room, and when they did in the evening we had to vacate the room, when all we wanted to do was relax before dinner in our room. The cleaning job was poor- no sheets changed and it was our 4th night, and the floor was never vacuumed. No amenities replenished, except 2 bottles of water, and the glasses and cups were hand washed in the bathroom sink [yuk!!]. The glasses looked dirty so i smelled them, and they were stinky [stale milk smell]. Found dirty socks under the bed [not ours]. I complained and customer service arranged for clean glasses and cups to be brought up from the kitchen, the way it should be done during a daily room clean. I asked for clean sheets as it was our 4th night. The sheets looked like they were replaced but on close inspection, they did not change the cover on my sons rollaway bed comforter. There was a strange stain on the "CLEAN" sheets midway down, but I just gave up at that point complaining. My husband and 6 year old daughter woke up the next morning with a strange red rash - on his torso, and on her right leg. It disappeared after 12 hrs. but still don't know what caused it- something on the sheets? The next day we got back at 4.30pm, and our room was again not cleaned. I called for service and had to vacate the room, and wait 90 mins. to have my shower. Yet again, the glasses/cups were cleaned in the bathroom and were wet and murky looking. For a 5 star hotel, this is just plain ridiculous and unsanitary. I don't want someone cleaning the toilet and then straight after doing a half ass job of cleaning wine glasses etc. without detergent in the bathroom sink. We ate 4 nights at the hotel. The "Living Room" food was ok, a bit overcooked but staff were very efficient and friendly. The 2nd night [NYE] we had the buffet meal in a banquet room [$89 per adult &$45 per child]. The food quality was good and tasty, but the plates were cold and the food was not hot-just room temperature. The hotel needs better chafing dishes or some heat lamps over the buffet. The actual banquet hall was very stark, with not even a Xmas tree in the corner. No atmosphere at all, as no music playing. We ate at Manzanita on the 3rd night, and I ordered the duck [$48] and my husband had the ribeye steak $68 + need to order a carb. side with it [$12]. It took 25 mins. from placing the order for any food to come out. You can get bread for the table for $10. The kids menu $20 was very nice and its came out hot. My husband's steak and my duck came out and it was room temperature. I was so hungry a this stage i just wanted to eat, so i let the waitress know both adult meals were luke warm but tasted good. She offered to reheat them, but I told her it would ruin the meat and toughen it up, plus I was hungry and just wanted to eat my dinner. The quality of the food was very good, it just needed to come out hot for those prices. I noticed on our bill the waitress overcharged us for both kid's ice creams, and she said she had not, even though the kids menu showed a cheaper price for dessert. She was kind of stroppy so i then said, i was surprised she didn't "comp" us anything, considering our meal was not hot. She just gave us a curt reply that she had offered to reheat or replace the meal but that we had refused her offer. Off she went to change the kids dessert price on the bill, and then she comped us 1 glass of wine for $17 and the kids dessert. After a while the manager came over and said he heard we were not happy with the meal, and I just explained it needed to be hot and we were hungry after a long wait, so did not want our meals reheated especially as it was a rare duck breast and a ribeye . He just laughed and looked at our empty plates and said we clearly loved the food, and off he went. He made me feel like I was trying to swindle a free meal out of the restaurant, and was making up the temperature issue, but my point is for this inflated prices my food should be hot. We tipped our waitress 22% and off we went. We decided to give Manzanita another go on the 4th night. Hubby had the ribeye again and I had the seafood cioppino. Long wait for food, but this time it all came out hot and was very tasty. Kids liked their meals too. Waiter was very nice. Read less

The best thing about this hotel is the ski in and out. Check-in was a breeze, friendly staff that gave us the wrong information on benefits you have when you are a titanium member. No letter that provided us with the benefits, only to be handed this said letter from the manager of the living room. Food - the outdoor bbq area was terrible, the burger I could not even swallow, the pizza was odd and the mac and cheese had no flavour. Living room - don't order the nachos, the chilli sauce was a watery stew mix, tried to dress it up with some sour cream.. Server was great about it and said she would let the chef know. Restaurant - food was cold, the service was good. Great kids meal choices. Spa - is dated, good staff, but please ladies remember your swimming gear... Room - bad. Sink has a huge crack in it the shower was broken and spraying the back wall. On day 3 the turn down service knocked on the door, asked if we needed anything? Was handed chocolates and towels... Never has that on the other days. Also the room was booked for 4 guests, but only had one bed, got a rollaway bed and thankfully my daughter is little so slept with us. Complete joke, Marriott app should not have let us book that type of room for 4 people. DJ at 3pm was rocking some tunes, but playing to a few guests, why not make this around 4pm when people are actually coming off the slopes. Why do you close the bar to the pool at 4pm? When all the kids are around getting in the pool and is the busiest time! Read less

I was a little concerned about coming to the Ritz after reading recent reviews on trip advisor. I have to say our experience has been wonderful. The staff has been extremely attentive: from the valet, to the front desk, to the wait staff, and the true north ski shop. This is a great resort for families with ski in/ ski out, good food, and slopes that perfect for beginner and intermediate skiers. There are also some more challenging slopes on the back side of the mountain and the Lookout Mountain. If you have time, there are many resorts in the area (like Squaw) that have harder slopes. I highly recommend this resort! Read less
