Mammoth Mountain Inn

Mammoth, California

Virgin rating

The hotel

Built in 1957, Mammoth Mountain Inn was Mammoth's first ski-resort accommodation and the only slope-side hotel at Mammoth's Main Lodge. Today it offers activities year round — in summer there's hiking, biking and outdoor adventures, and in winter it's a core skiers' and snowboarders' paradise, with the ultimate entry point to the slopes. Ski to the hotel at the end of the day and you can soon be blowing the steam off your hot toddy. Take a dip in the outdoor pool or one of the indoor or outdoor hot tubs. The Yodler dining terrace is the ideal place for a light snack on a sunny day and the great après-ski atmosphere in the Dry Creek Lounge is further enhanced by regular live music.

A last minute stay here turned out to be the best part of our “395 Road Trip”! The service was a “10”, the lodge was clean and our room was simple but clean. We could imagine how the calm atmosphere in the mid-summer transforms to a fast moving hub of activity during ski season! From the Inn we took the bus to Devils Postpile and enjoyed several hours of exploration. The Mammoth Mountain Inn was to us a perfect destination and starting point for so many great hikes, including the Pinnacles and the gondola! Read less

We’ve been coming for 5 years to the Mammoth Bike Ride in September, great place to stay as group. Hot tubing, swimming, after race dinner at the grill is relaxing with great food. Service can be a little slow with the long walk to the kitchen, but we don’t care as this is a place for unwinding and enjoying friends and conversation. Suggest the mountain burger!! Fries spot on. Bonus the Dodgers were on the TV!! Read less

Would not stay here again. The room was not in the main lodge and was above the parking garage with a view of the roof of the garage. Very depressing looking. Hallways and rooms look like they have never been updated. Maybe if they decorated with art on walls it would look more appealing in the hallways and rooms. Paint peeling, bathtub cracked… Read more

Hallways and rooms look like they have never been updated. Maybe if they decorated with art on walls it would look more appealing in the hallways and rooms. Paint peeling, bathtub cracked and peeling. Lampshade peeling. There is no AC in this hotel. It was very stuffy and we had to use three fans to circulate air at night. We used the coffee machine and spit out the coffee. Im not sure what that was! The bed was comfortable and they had a lot of towels. Room appeared clean. The hot tub was nice and hot but the chairs by the pool area are all falling apart. For the money, I am sure I could have stayed at a nicer hotel. I asked the mammoth booking agent which was the nicest of all 4 hotels but she wouldn’t say. It seems the ones in town might have been more updated but who knows. Read less

Rooms are a bit dated, but very clean, and service is fantastic! Natalie at the front desk went above and beyond to get me a hair dryer when ours quit working in our room… she was super busy, but took the time to go out of her way to help. Thanks so much!
