W Scottsdale

Scottsdale, Arizona

The hotel

Radically different to its neighbours, W Scottsdale taps into the lively undercurrent of its trendy Entertainment District setting – with features and bars that make it cool and hot in equal measure. On the city’s ‘IT list’, the difference is discernible as soon as you step inside (just look up and you’ll spy the WET Pool through oversized portholes). Head upstairs and the WET Deck welcomes you with the outdoor pool with underwater lighting and music, overstuffed loungers and private cabanas, and weekend pool parties with live DJs. The party continues downstairs, with the lobby space transformed into an open ‘Living Room’ featuring stylish furniture, live music sessions, and a party atmosphere until the wee hours. And, when bed finally beckons, it’s the hotel’s signature W Bed, in a guestroom with sliding floor-to-ceiling windows and a WHATEVER/WHENEVER® Concierge service.

Our last trip to Scottsdale at the W Hotel was wonderful the service we received from Rebecca the Insider and Krystle the Conceriege went above and beyond. It was my friends 50th birthday and we ate at Mastro's and they sent us an unbelievable dessert for the whole table(it was so good) and when we got back to our room there were drinks in a bucket with a happy birthday card. They checked in with us the whole weekend to make sure our stay was a special stay. Every time we passed the front desk they said Happy Birthday to my friend. It's the little things that make a difference. Thank you Rebecca, Krystle and the whole staff. Read less

The hotel is currently undergoing renovations, despite their website saying that the renovations would be completed by Aug 31. We received an upgrade upon check in to one of the brand new, renovated spa suites. The room has an urban loft feel. The bed was in the middle of the room with the closet located behind the headboard. There is also a freestanding tub in the space between the foot of the bed and sofa. While I kind of like this funky vibe, the bathroom situation pushes the envelop over the edge if you are traveling with someone. The shower and toilet are separated by a dual sink vanity and the entire area can allow for some privacy by sliding doors. However, these doors do not shut completely. I could still see out to the walkway to the patio and pool with the doors completely closed. If the blinds were open, passersby could see you in the vanity area. Additionally, the door to the toilet is a glass door with a gap at the top so any business you need to conduct in private would require you to leave the room. You can actually see the living room from the toilet, with the vanity door closed, if you didn't close the toilet door. I do like privacy in the bathroom so this room is not something I recommend if anyone in a party of two or more is modest. The bar was great and I love that it had Veuve by the glass. There was live entertainment too and the band was great. I can't say enough about how much I love the pool. I spent an afternoon there and would love to spend more time there in the future. The spa was still under renovation and therefore closed. Overall the service was great. We did have an issue with the drain in the shower not draining and risking overflow. Something I would have expected to be in excellent repair with the renovation. It took three requests to get it repaired. The manager did state that Bonvoy points would be awarded due to the less than desirable customer service but that still has not materialized. Read less

I have been to plenty of Marriott and even Hilton branded hotels but I’ve got to say that W Scottsdale really took my Platinum Elite status to the next level. I checked in for Labor Day weekend and was very lucky to have Chris and Cody as my receptionists. They were both very professional and super friendly when I walked up to the front desk. They thanked me for being a loyal member with Marriott and because of that, they gave me a very special perk that i could ever dream of: A presidential suite! Keep in mind that I’ve received upgrades from Marriott before especially in Asia or Europe but this time it really made my heart smile since it is my first Presidential Suite experience!! I definitely recommend everyone to check out W if you happen to be in Scottsdale and I promise you won’t be disappointed!!! If you have any questions about the hotel please feel free to ask me on Instagram: ke7intvo @Chris and Cody: you guys are my real life heroes!! Read less

I've stayed here numerous times and I'm a lifetime titanium bonvoy member and always look forward to staying at this property. Back when the W Hotels start to gain traction, they were very trendy and a hot spot for the party scene. After many years, this started to erode for the W brand but the good news is this property still maintains that feel! It's also located in a great spot right next to the fashion mall and some clubs in the Scottsdale area so you can walk intoxicated and do some drunk shopping. Well, maybe it's not such a great location LOL I've always had great services and the staff is easy on the eyes and always on there game. The whatever whenever attitude still exists and I hope it remains. The food is average W food but the sushi bar is really good. Valet is also very fast here which is great for when you're away on business trips. Overall, I like the decor of the hotel and the pool is currently undergoing renovations. The only thing I would critique from this last stay was the dj in the pool area. There was just a handful of people there on a Monday afternoon and the dj was playing peak time tracks when a more chill vibe was needed. Also, may want to brush up on beat matching and keeping tracks in phase. Like Arnold, I'll be back. Read less

The W hotel in Scottsdale provides significant opportunities for work and play. Starting with food and beverage, the W has a nice breakfast, cool bar scene and a wonderful sushi restaurant on premise as well. The rooms are typical of a W with open space. The shower is larger than normal (see picture). Rooms are furnished with complimentary water along with other drinks and snacks for a price. The hotel has a huge pool and caters to adults. The location of the W is also a benefit. It is centrally located to most businesses in Scottsdale. The hotel is in walking distance of 15-20 restaurants offering plenty of variety. For the under 30ish crowd, one can find a night club as well. For those of us, who enjoy exercise the W has a nice workout center. Also the hotel is located on a walking/running/cycling path beside a small river. I saw multiple persons out on my AM runs. The paths are safe. The staff at the W were excellent and continually asked what could be done to improve my stay. Even though I visited for business, this hotel setting provides a unique social setting for adventure and relaxation. Read less
