W Scottsdale

Scottsdale, Arizona

The hotel

Radically different to its neighbours, W Scottsdale taps into the lively undercurrent of its trendy Entertainment District setting – with features and bars that make it cool and hot in equal measure. On the city’s ‘IT list’, the difference is discernible as soon as you step inside (just look up and you’ll spy the WET Pool through oversized portholes). Head upstairs and the WET Deck welcomes you with the outdoor pool with underwater lighting and music, overstuffed loungers and private cabanas, and weekend pool parties with live DJs. The party continues downstairs, with the lobby space transformed into an open ‘Living Room’ featuring stylish furniture, live music sessions, and a party atmosphere until the wee hours. And, when bed finally beckons, it’s the hotel’s signature W Bed, in a guestroom with sliding floor-to-ceiling windows and a WHATEVER/WHENEVER® Concierge service.

The shower is frosted glass on two sides, the second side facing the room with a drape across is it the room. If you are in the shower someone in the room can slide the curtain back and there you are. Granted it is frosted but hopefully you are not bending over for the soap when the curtain flies back! The toilet is in an enclosure also with frosted glass door and no lock. With sliding panels pulled back you have a great view if the toilet door is open. Who in the world thought up this design? This is a big hotel and I assume all the rooms are this way. My wife says this is a deal killer re return. May not be a problem with you, look at the rooms on line if possible, it may show the issue I am talking about. Read less

Big shout out to Lexi behind the bar. I’m not a big drinker (bartender’s worst nightmare) but she remembered my order even on a different visit the next day. Great hospitality. Great local recommendations. I’ll be back. 🤙🏼

Water closet and shower are lightly frosted glass. Absolutely no privacy in this set up. Was also weirded out by the decal of someone taking a pic in the shower. Strange * Like coffee… you will be miserable. Rooms have nespresso machines. Not my favorite, so I ordered room service coffee which turned out to be French press and full of grounds. * Like food… forget about it. The bar has an ok menu (hamburger was sent back raw). Room service menu is much more extensive but only available as room service. Good news though, I lost 2 pounds! * No vending machine or hotel shop, so there isn’t anywhere to pick up a snack or bottle of water. There is a snack box in the room, but at excessive prices * Lobby bar was was hopping with bass at night and bartenders dressed in painted on leather. Most business travelers didn’t seem amused. * Disappointed there isn’t outdoor sitting or eating spots aside from the pool. In such a great c,8mate, it would have been great to have outside space. The zen garden was pretty but didn’t have any seats. Ultimately I rated it 3 stars because the staff is really very nice and accommodating. They genuinely went out of their way. Also, I’ve never stayed anywhere with more work space in a room and multiple USB and outlets. Read less

Brought my wife to celebrate a delayed Anniversary. Because of my ambassador status (lifetime Titanium) they upgraded us to a larger room with a balcony that overlooks the pool area - and also provided some nice welcome gifts. Headine: My suggestion is to avoid weekend stays here unless you are willing to stay up till 2am. Specifics: All was fine on Thur night but then on Saturday about 9pm they started playing loud techno music in the pool area. Seemed like perhaps a very accomplished DJ who wanted to ensure the repetitive bass could be felt by all four guests in the pool area and the rest of Scottsdale. Our call to Whatever / Whenever only resulted in louder music. Hotel manager was not helpful at all but the Whatever operator helped us to a new small room away from the pool area. Had to move everything, but at least could get some rest. I am surprised neighbors don’t complain. Stay somewhere else unless you are looking to party till 2am. Read less

I usually rate places I have great things to write about at 5* but unfortunately, due to a bad experience, I had to leave early, which was so unfortunate because it is a beautiful place! I arrived with my dog, and Will checked me in. He was so nice and helpful, and since I arrived early, I went to the bar to have a drink waiting for my room to get ready. Lexie, who was the bartender, saw I was with my pup and immediately brought water out and asked if I wanted food, and recommended a chicken breast with rice for the dog. I thought that was amazing! She was SO sweet, professional and nice to be around. When it came time to get into my room, Will came to the bar to give me my key and a dog bowl. So sweet! On day two, I had dinner at Mastros and finished the night off with a bottle of Dom Perignon at the Lobby Bar. There was a great band playing, and I was enjoying the night with my cousin, who I rarely see, since I am from out of town. When my cousin asked the musician what song he had just played, an escort, who was obliviously drunk, came over and spilt her drink all over my cousin. Now, I know they cannot deny escorts to come into their place, it was very uncomfortable. I had just spend $1,000 US and being treated at such a nice place, especially being a Bonvoy member, was very disrespectful. They advertise this place as if it were family friendly, and I would NEVER visit this place if I had children, even if this happened at the Lobby bar, and children are not allowed in, due to it being a bar. After that night, I honestly did not feel safe leaving my room, so I slept the night out, and ran out of there the next morning. Literally, ran out. When I was checking out, Tatum and Skylar were amazing. They were so sweet and felt SO bad about what had happened, but wanted me to speak with their manager on duty to tell him what had happened. When I explained myself and how sad and scared I was, he literally said “ok. We will not charge you for the third night”. That was pretty much it. The girls at the desk were more sympathetic then the manager on duty. Although everything but the mentioned above was great, I am a little sad that after traveling to Arizona (from Mexico, for 3 nights/ended yo staying 2), finished like this. Although a very nice place, I would think twice if you are going as a couple (since escorts will harass your partner), going single (since escorts will harass you) or going with children (since they might be exposed). Good luck! Read less
