The hotel

The luxurious Fairmont also boasts the largest guest rooms in Bermuda, making them ideal for those who want a comfortable base in which to unwind. What’s more, each room benefits from its very own balcony, perfect for sitting on at any time of day, admiring the famous pink sands and the stunning sunsets. Set in nearly 100-acres of perfectly manicured garden, dotted with bougainvillea and towering coconut palms, this is truly a sublime setting – and at just 2 hours from New York City, it’s perfect as a twin-centre destination. Relax at the resort pool or pull up a chaise lounge at the sprawling oceanfront beach club, complete with dive centre and tennis courts. Alternatively, a stint at the Willow Stream Spa might be more your style, enjoying an aromatherapy massage perhaps or a mani and pedi. A championship golf course is close by too, the stunning fairways something everyone can enjoy whether you’re an aficionado of the game or not. When it comes to dining at the Fairmont, you’re spoilt for choice, there are plenty of restaurants and cafés to choose from, including the 330 year-old AAA 4-Diamond Waterlot Inn, serving the finest steak and chops alongside treasures from the sea, fine wines and some sinful deserts!

First of all, when we checked in our room wasn't ready but we didn't care, we went and had a late lunch. Our room wasn't ready until after 4:30. When we got to our room, the television was broken and there was no bathrobe. There was a big pile of dirty dishes in the doorway from the previous guests. We called down to have it fixed and bring us up a robe. Several hours later they showed up to fix the television. They also dropped off a terrycloth robe that had an enormous hole in it, it was unwearable. The dirty dishes remained in the hall. The next day we went out for a fun day of shopping, lunch etc., and returned to our room, still not cleaned by 4:30. Yup, dirty dishes still not moved. Day three was another beautiful day so we went out and about to enjoy this beautiful island. This time we asked to please send housekeeping to our room before we left. When we returned, the television was broken again but at least the three day old dirty dishes were gone. We had to go to the front desk five times because our room keys didn't work very often. We were pretty far away from the lobby so it was a lot of walking up and down. We decided to take a swim in the heated, indoor pool that they advertised and were told it would cost us $100 unless we spent that in spa services. We opted for the continental breakfast for $42 for two, and a meal plan gratuity of $6.46. The food never varied and we served ourselves, occasionally begging for coffee. One day my husband ate a piece of bacon out of boredom and they charged us an extra $20. I will say the staff tries hard and are extremely polite. The spa staff is excellent. I think the problem comes from much higher up. The view from our room was second to none. A couple of notes to be aware of... We were charged room gratuities of $22 per day, Resort Levy of $30 per day, Occupancy Tax and Tourism fee of $54.17 per day. Read less

My client wanted a unique getaway gift for her husband. Initially she thought of Cirque tickets in London, then shows in Vegas. I mentioned going to Fairmont properties in Bermuda since it was easy travel from East Coast and a great escape from the NE winter weather. Here is her feedback - S. Hampton Fairmont was awesome. Server at Waterlot Steakhouse was from Dubai. Daily brunch had different egg dishes every morning. Couples room massage had big bath tub. During our couples massage there was loud noises. Our masseuse excused himself and contacts management to have the noises stop. We were then provided with 50% off our 90 minute massages. Thursday night a pipe burst and sprinklers and fire alarms went off at 3:30 am. It flooded inside area of restaurant. Management gave us all chocolates and $100 resort credit. This property was traditional Caribbean yet had Warhol and other modern art prints. We also enjoyed downtown Hamilton and S. Hampton. We loved the food at Mediterra Restaurant. Service at this property always went above and beyond. We cannot wait to return. Read less

We enjoyed our stay and used the spa as part of our weekend. We were disappointed however that all of the amenities were not available during that visit. The sauna was out of commission. It would have been nice to get a discount due to the inconvenience.

We visit Bermuda 3-4 times a year, usually April to October, but have never been there in January or February. We went to “South P” for a week this year from late January to early February 2019, and had a great time. We had a two-room suite on the Fairmont Gold 6th Floor, and were welcomed by Gold Manager Rachel and her very capable team. The weather varied from 65-70 F, and was generally very pleasant, without the usual heat and humidity of the Bermudian summer from June to September. Lounging by the pool in the warm sun was so much better than shoveling snow and ice in Boston! In Bermuda at this time of year, some restaurants and activities are closed, but many regular restaurants and stores remain open. At South P, five places - Jasmine, Boundary, Waterloo, Wickets Coffee Bar, and Mediterra - were all open for business. We also visited Hamilton for shopping and Ascot’s for dinner. Taxi drivers have always been very friendly and informative for us over the years, and the same was true in the winter. South P has almost 600 rooms, and though they were less than half full, it was still a generally busy place in January-February, though much less hectic than during the normal tourist season. We will definitely come to the island again next winter! Read less
