Nine Zero, A Kimpton Hotel

Boston, USA

Virgin rating

The hotel

This luxury Boston hotel is regarded as one of the best in Boston. It's trendy, well positioned and friendly with a warm, welcoming atmosphere. Guest rooms provide a welcome retreat from the buzz of the city, featuring a good range of mod cons. For a real treat, take advantage of the in-room spa treatments available, including hot stone massage and spirulina body wrap - pure bliss! There's also a state-of-the-art fitness centre, open 24/7 with complimentary water and towels to cool you down. Because you're so central, there are plenty of bars, cafes and restaurants in the immediate vicinity but if you're in the mood for another treat (and why no, you're on holiday!), make sure you frequent the hotel's vintage cocktail lounge, the Highball. Popular with the locals, it's a great mix of fun and nostalgia with some killer cocktails to boot.

I typically love Kimpton properties. They have an independent, boutique hotel feel despite being owned by the Holiday Inn superchain, IHG. The Nine Zero generally has that feel, but it's not really worth the steep price tag. The location is nearly perfect, right off Boston Commons in downtown. You can walk most everywhere. The design is pretty good, maybe a bit tired. Like its best days were 10 years ago. Dark wood, kinda moody lobby. Everything is well cared for but the place is showing its age with likely thousands of guests passing through annually. The rooms are fairly standard hotel rooms. A more eclectic design than your standard Holiday Inn, of course but not really any more comfortable. Not to say it was uncomfortable, it wasn't. It was just meh. Surprised to find there is no restaurant on-site so therefore no room service. Naturally you can do Doordash or something but that requires you to go pickup your food in the lobby. And everyone knows delivered food isn't nearly as good as freshly prepared. No parking options nearby really, so either you walk or valet for a crazy price. I felt for the $380 per night price tag. I should have a nice, memorable experience. This place didn't deliver. Read less

Horrible hotel. Stayed in a suite Paid $700 per night. Room had bad smell. Heating didn’t work. Staff unfriendly Suite was dark. Hardly any sunlight. For the money they charge … it’s a top off. Seems management and employees don’t care. Will never stay there again.

This hotel is fun a needed break from your typical corporate cubicle hotel. Clean and funky rooms with yoga mats and Eames chairs make them stand out. But the best part is the staff. I forgot something and Mitchell rushed to ship it to me before I caught my flight. Truly great.

This is a stylish hotel in a good location, with sensational views across Boston from their designer rooms, and it has many friendly staff. BUT There is no restaurant, nor bar, nor concierge, nor gym. There is no food offering whatsoever in the hotel. We asked for coffee in our room only to be told that they will supply a coffee maker for us to use, but cannot provide milk to go with. We never saw a china cup or any glassware. All was paper. The receptionists are not knowledgeable and are unhelpful. I say this as I asked for a cab to the airport only to be handed a slip of paper with the telephone number of a cab company and told to order it myself! There is also a general feeling that there just aren't enough experienced staff on hand. I feel that the descriptive blurb put out by this hotel group is misleading as it omits to mention the lack of basic amenities one expects from a quality hotel. Whoever rated this as the second best hotel in Boston needs their head examined - Conde Nast what were you thinking? You have all been warned Read less
