The hotel and restaurant are charming and fantastic. We had a lovely stay and would return without hesitation. It has the feel of a small, first class European hotel. The staff treats you as family and makes an effort to see to your every need. The restaurant is 5 star for a reason- it's charming and elegant and the food is terrific.

This is a historic building "renovated" for travelers today. Be aware, there are many steep steps to any room! There is a lovely patio if it is warm enough to sit out side but rooms are sketchy. This is a historic building "renovated" for travelers today. Be aware, there are many steep steps to any room! There is a lovely patio if it is warm enough to sit out side but rooms are sketchy. Mine had no security mat for the tub and the shower head was very extended out so it was not possible to actually stand beneath the rain shower head to take a shower. Awkward! The mattress didnt fit the bed frame so there was a hard wooden board hitting you every time you got in or out of bed which was not comfortable. There was no comfy chair to sit in to read or watch the news, there was a continuous roaring sound from outside my room...perhaps the water heater for someplace but even ear plugs did not stop it. separately, the restaurant with a wine tasting dinner at considerable expense was worth every penny. Great food and terrific service with lots of special attention for special food requirements. Well worth a stop even if you do not stay at the hotel. Read less

Got last minute deal via Hotel Tonight. Regardless we were treated as ‘full paying’ guests. Which was of the highest level of care and attention (as one expects from ‘Relais & Chateaux’ members. Would certainly return when in Carmel.

Have stayed at multiple Relais & Chateau properties. found this property not up to my expectations. Room charges are over the top but I knew that going in. the facility is nice. location is very convenient to town and restaurants. However Service was a problem. Valet people were great. Room service was so so. asked three time for them to put wate in our frig...never happened. asked to get the free daily paper delivered in the AM...never happened. Biggest issue was breakfast. When you charge top of the line rates and advertise free breakfast, I expect more. there were no choices. juice, coffee, two eggs, and muffins. Don't want eggs and ordered oatmeal..$10. want cheese in with your eggs...additional charge. any breakfast meats... a charge. this is nickle diming the the guest to death.the food was fine but who wants to eat the same thing multiple days in a row with a very limit menu. overall, would be very reluctant to recommend this property to anyone.
