We had a fantastic stay at L’Auberge Carmel - beautiful room right off the courtyard. Our room had a peek of the ocean and windows opened to street out front. We enjoyed our daily breakfast made to order in the courtyard and we were even able to have dinner there - an amazing 9 course meal with incredible wine pairings - must book early for that!… Read more

So I came upon this hotel in unfortunate circumstances, jilted honeymoon, and the staff was so accommodating. Both Ryans, randy, Edwin, John , the rest of the staff just made everything so nice and easy in such a difficult time. The wine menu pairing was so thoughtful and well executed to build a dynamic experience. Hats off to the staff! Read less

A very well located, well maintained boutique hotel with immaculate service and a Michelin-starred restaurant. Rooms are small, but well fitted out. A modest continental breakfast, still and sparkling water included. Given its small size it lacks the facilities you might associate with a hotel of this price, such as a gym, but this is Carmel and… Read more

A modest continental breakfast, still and sparkling water included. Given its small size it lacks the facilities you might associate with a hotel of this price, such as a gym, but this is Carmel and you are pretty much in the center of everything. The free valet parking is an excellent touch, as chains throughout California are hiking the price of this service to recoup money lost during Covid. Read less

From the moment you arrive, the service is outstanding. The staff is very attentive. The rooms are very comfortable. A lot of the small things like fresh cookies every evening make it special. It is very quiet and serene. Excellent location.

L'Auberge Carmel is a lovely Relais & Chateaux property based in Carmel-by-the-Sea, with a one-Michelin star restaurant, Aubergine. We were in a Deluxe Courtyard King (middle of the pack room) and found the room to be well-appointed, if a bit small, with an efficiently-spaced bathroom and a nice soaking tub. The room is quaint, but there is a beautiful courtyard that many (all?) of the rooms connect to that provides plenty of outdoor space and the weather was terrific when we were there. L'Auberge Carmel is also in an excellent location, about four blocks from the beach and a couple of blocks to many great cafes, restaurants and shops. It is a great base for exploring the region. The highlight of the experience is without doubt the food. Aubergine is incredible. Very much worth a trip by itself if you are ever in the general area. Due to COVID restrictions, the restaurant had shifted outside to L'Auberge Carmel's courtyard which only added to the romantic ambience. Even the in-room breakfasts are something to look forward to, as they are made by the same kitchen. We had fresh fruit, eggs and cinnamon rolls delivered to the room in the morning and every piece of the breakfast was a standout. The hotel service we received was warm, if a bit unpolished. We had a challenge during the check-in process that was resolved reasonably well by the front desk agent, and other staff we interacted with were definitely trying to be helpful. The service at Aubergine was excellent -- our servers were engaging and knowledgeable, and the sommelier in particular was a superstar. I would absolutely recommend L'Auberge Carmel if you are planning a trip to Carmel-by-the-Sea. It has a fantastic location, and excellent food offerings. Read less
