Inn at Morro Bay

San Luis Obispo, California Coast

The hotel

Squeezed between Morro Bay and a golf course, this waterfront hotel’s taken over a whole patch of prime seaside real estate, giving you views of the bay and Morro Rock. Inside it’s dressed for the occasion, with nautical navy and white adding to its seaside flavour. Sitting on the edge of Morro Bay State Park, it’s midway between LA and San Francisco – something reflected by its popular 60 State Park Restaurant and Lounge, where the bay view draws you in, and the Central Coast cuisine makes sure you stay – whether you’re tucking into clam chowder in a sourdough bowl for lunch or the 60 State Park Burger for dinner. And, with its motel style, it’s made for those wanting to explore the region’s missions, wineries, beaches, and lighthouses, before relaxing on the pretty terrace with its pool and hot tub.

I would like to give a review for a hotel that is situated in a beautiful area that is poised, following coronavirus, for a refresh. Room upgrades are on the way, and this is a positive for a property that has great staff, good rooms (but not the most modern) and a nice restaurant and bar with a view of the Rock. Location helps. Our suite had a fireplace and balcony. The bathroom was oversized. Other rooms family and friends had were cozy and amenable. In 2021 this property will be likely even better, and it is too bad some reviews were not great. Charlie is trying very hard, and the staff just saw some furloughs. After COVID-19 we hope the inn will bring some spark back. Enjoyed our wedding weekend and the Beauty of Morro Bay Read less

We stayed here the night of February 20th for my wife's birthday. The room was Bay front and that was the only good thing to say. Bathroom had no vanity and no trash can. Room is sparsely furnished. There was a coffee maker and 2 cups, 3 plastic cups. No hair dryer. One small chair and small desk. Sofa bed but no blankets or pillows. One very small table and a hard chair on balcony where the view was blocked if you were seated. To get ice I had to leave our building and cross parking lot, then climb stairs to the far side of another building. Not an easy task for an 83 year old man. With dinner and breakfast we spent well over $500 for one disappointing stay at this hotel. I wrote a letter to the General Manager Charlie Yates to express m disappointment and asked him to contact me. He failed to give me the courtesy of a response. I understand this is an older hotel but that is no excuse for the lack of amenities and unresponsive management. Read less

Our experience in the moments booking a room ruined everything. We booked a room and then called back with a couple of questions after we got the confirmation email. Front desk/reservation staff was rude, flippant and it was enough to cancel and look elsewhere to stay.

My room was very small but comfortable. No microwave or refrigerator, but had a keurig coffee maker. The Inn is right on the water, with the golf course across the road in the state park. It was a short walk to the natural museum and to the Peninsula Trail at the estuary.

Wrapped in blankets and outdoor heaters going, we thoroughly enjoyed our drinks and had great hummus and veggies. The waitress was very upbeat and very accommodating. The food looked and smelled great, though we did not have any. Will be back to stay at another time!
