Inn at Morro Bay

San Luis Obispo, California Coast

The hotel

Squeezed between Morro Bay and a golf course, this waterfront hotel’s taken over a whole patch of prime seaside real estate, giving you views of the bay and Morro Rock. Inside it’s dressed for the occasion, with nautical navy and white adding to its seaside flavour. Sitting on the edge of Morro Bay State Park, it’s midway between LA and San Francisco – something reflected by its popular 60 State Park Restaurant and Lounge, where the bay view draws you in, and the Central Coast cuisine makes sure you stay – whether you’re tucking into clam chowder in a sourdough bowl for lunch or the 60 State Park Burger for dinner. And, with its motel style, it’s made for those wanting to explore the region’s missions, wineries, beaches, and lighthouses, before relaxing on the pretty terrace with its pool and hot tub.

We’ve been celebrating my birthday here for a few years now, but next year we think we might stay elsewhere. Not sure what changed in the course of a year, but this last experience was not great. The room was not clean, as there was gunk and old food stains on the outside of the cupboard to the fridge. The fridge smelled awful, the fireplace wasn’t staying on and since it kept clicking, we just thought it best to turn it off. The pool was nice and is very deep but one of our favorite features is the hot tub. This year it looked as if it hadn’t been cleaned, as there was greenish black looking moss/mold all around the perimeter. There was dirt, leaves, and hair floating around in the water. We left for the day and asked for some towels to be replenished while we were gone, also tidy up because we had our pup with us (used to be the reason we stayed, dog friendly) but no one came by with clean linens while we were out all day. Pretty bummed on the experience we had this year, as Morro Bay and this specific hotel have always been special to us. Have not fully decided if we will give it another shot next year, maybe they were just having an off weekend? Read less

The white shutters leading to the balcony sliding door added to the almost tropical feel along with the lush foliage around the grounds. Very peaceful setting! From the restaurant we could watch the otters and sea birds (binoculars were at each table!). Good happy hour, dinner and breakfast, too. All staff seemed like they enjoyed what they did. They offer bike rentals and are just down the hill from a golf course. We look forward to staying here again! Read less

My husband and I spent one night at the Inn, it was our anniversary. When we arrived my husband asked if any upgrades were available, Mia was at the front desk and was happy to give us the 'upgrade' to Room 320 - we had reserved the 'Bay View King Bed' room and prior to this 'upgrade' were to be assigned a room at the building right on the Bay. She assured us this was a better room because it had a fireplace and was much larger than our reserved room. We initially just dropped off our bags and went to dinner without looking too closely at the room. When we returned, we had left the fireplace running in hopes of heating the room but it was still cold in our room. When we turned up the lights, we were shocked and grossed out to see the dirty, doors, walls ceilings, sofa, shower, and the list goes on - in general this room is in gross shape and has not been given even a thorough cleaning in some time. The shower floor was just gross, we were relieved to have brought flip flops! But look up and there is something terribly gross on the shower ceiling!? The worst was that we FROZE all night, the flimsy blanket on the bed was not even close to enough and the fireplace ran all night but did little to improve the temperature, it felt onlyslightly warmer than outside! And - it was in the 30s that night!! We had a miserable sleepless night! I'm not sure what is going on with the Inn but this condition of room is NOT worthy of a three star rating Read less

The location is beautiful and staff are Lovley so it is a nice location for a quick getaway The rooms are outdated and musty/moldy smelling so they could use a bit of a refresh so don’t expect anything fancy there.

I felt like a millionaire staying in this room because it was on the water, fireplace on deck, fireplace in room and in the bathroom, unbelievable. The staff went above and beyond to make our stay there special, so friendly and sweet. The bar faces the water with views that are incredible and the food was perfect. They have a great happy hour from 2 to 6 with an extensive wine list. You can rent bikes to go into town, take a hike right out the door, or just stay on the property and go nowhere. The location is the best in Morro Bay in my opinion. Do not hesitate to visit this one of a kind resorts on the central coast. It was a special 2 days for us. Thank you to all the staff at the Inn at Morro Bay❤️ Read less
