Inn at Morro Bay

San Luis Obispo, California Coast

The hotel

Squeezed between Morro Bay and a golf course, this waterfront hotel’s taken over a whole patch of prime seaside real estate, giving you views of the bay and Morro Rock. Inside it’s dressed for the occasion, with nautical navy and white adding to its seaside flavour. Sitting on the edge of Morro Bay State Park, it’s midway between LA and San Francisco – something reflected by its popular 60 State Park Restaurant and Lounge, where the bay view draws you in, and the Central Coast cuisine makes sure you stay – whether you’re tucking into clam chowder in a sourdough bowl for lunch or the 60 State Park Burger for dinner. And, with its motel style, it’s made for those wanting to explore the region’s missions, wineries, beaches, and lighthouses, before relaxing on the pretty terrace with its pool and hot tub.

The service was amazing! We arrived earlier than check in time but the staff informed us that our room was ready. Our room was spacious, clean. Why bore you with everything bad about this hotel? It's a lengthy list. So here's a condensed list. Room decor out of the 80's (that's 35 years ago people). Rock hard bed swayed in the middle, linens threadbear and that mysterious polyester bedspread thing..you get the idea. Carpets worn and torn in some places, faux wood furniture. Oh, and… Read more

Rock hard bed swayed in the middle, linens threadbear and that mysterious polyester bedspread thing..you get the idea. Carpets worn and torn in some places, faux wood furniture. Oh, and our room was microscopic in size. Amazing how much bad you can fit into 350 ? sq ft. Bathrooms, well, kinda like the rest of the room. Outside hallways full of leafs, twigs and assorted debris, that hadn't been swept for a long time. Maid carts here and there, and, with the maid closets open, revealed a hotel that doesnt believe in brooms, paint, or order. We checked out after 1 night of a 2 night trip. And that 1 night was $450. Found a real hotel and salvaged our weekend. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. Anyone. Read less

We had a nice room with white shutters that you could open and see the beautiful view. I could’ve starred at it all night long. The beds are comfortable and the shower is nice. They have a nice restaurant and a nice seating area inside and out. We used the jacuzzi and it was nice to relax out there. It was cozy and we enjoyed our visit here. … Read more

It’s only a 5 minute drive to the shops and restaurants on the Embarcadero. Plus there is a gorgeous golf course across the street! Read less

We stayed here recently for a family graduation at Cal Poly. This is what I would call an old roadside inn. It sits on Morro Bay and is directly accross the street from the state park golf course - it has a wonderful view of the bay if you get a room with a bay view. Our room had a gas fireplace and one easy chair and a desk chair with a sliding door to a small balcony with two chairs on it. It is a nice place and it is well serviced by the owners with excellent daily maid service, etc. However, the hotel is older and frankly should have been completely remodeled the first time about 20 years ago. If this were a national franchise operation the hotel operators would likely have been required to remodel long ago to maintain their franchise flag. The bathroom is small, the shower smaller still with an old shower curtain; and, the commode top as the location to place toiletries other than a hair brush under the mirror. The price point given all factors represents this conundrum. The room has no safe and the front desk has no place for your valuables - if you have them you simply take your chances. We did not eat dinner at the restaurant, but did have breakfast there our first morning - we suggest you eat elsewhere as the offering was exceptionally average and not inexpensive for average - there are better locations in town. By comparison only this place does not come close to the Bodega Bay Lodge up North on the Central Coast, which is far superior in all regards. Please see that review. Simply understand what you are getting. Read less
