Inn at Morro Bay

San Luis Obispo, California Coast

The hotel

Squeezed between Morro Bay and a golf course, this waterfront hotel’s taken over a whole patch of prime seaside real estate, giving you views of the bay and Morro Rock. Inside it’s dressed for the occasion, with nautical navy and white adding to its seaside flavour. Sitting on the edge of Morro Bay State Park, it’s midway between LA and San Francisco – something reflected by its popular 60 State Park Restaurant and Lounge, where the bay view draws you in, and the Central Coast cuisine makes sure you stay – whether you’re tucking into clam chowder in a sourdough bowl for lunch or the 60 State Park Burger for dinner. And, with its motel style, it’s made for those wanting to explore the region’s missions, wineries, beaches, and lighthouses, before relaxing on the pretty terrace with its pool and hot tub.

Stayed in a King, Garden View room. They had been recently updated and it was very nice, very clean. The room had a patio with table and chairs. Location is great. Right on Morro Bay and there is a deck overlooking the bay.

This is our second time within 2 months staying at the Inn at Morro Bay. It is located inside the Morrow Bay State Park. Make sure to pay the extra to have a balcony room to have a front seat view of the bay and Morro Rock. The sunsets and sunrise are spectacular (a VERY foggy area, so check the weather before you book!). It can get cold in the evenings, but we had the room with the gas fireplace! Chances are you will need it! If you love nature it is right outside your door! The state protected Heron Bird sanctuary is literally right next to the Inn (Fairbank Point), we watched them fly back and for their daily nesting rituals as we watched Otters playing in the water in front of our balcony. Take the half a mile walk along the wooded and beautiful Main Street pathway towards the Morrow Bay State Park Marina and have a quick bite at the Bayside Cafe that is open with outside seating or carry out and take back to your room with a view! Suggest stopping by the Museum of Natural History along the way (although now closed due to Covid, beautiful views and story maps available), walk along the back of the museum and then the staircase down to the Bayside Cafe. Amazing views! In addition, If you like to golf, the Morro Bay Golf course is across the street and beautiful greens! This is NOT your 4 star hotel, it is clean on the inside, but the hotel is from another era (think of the 1950's). What we loved was the location and such a wonderful experience at an affordable price. They are updating and renovating the rooms and we did have one that was newly renovated. We would give it a 3.5 star, because the outside of the hotel needs some work and it appears they are working upon it. Read less

Room is not more than a 3 star but the privacy, view and patio of the cottage make it worth while. The room was not well cleaned (empty seltzer can under the drapes) and the sofa bed was extremely uncomfortable

Way over priced for a motel hidden as a hotel. Can't access beach. Dirty rooms. Old carpets. Smells. Paper thin walls. Yea, nice views and a pool but is that worth three hundred per night, nope, big fat nope. I know it’s Covid but how can you charge so much for a dump of a room without access to hot tub, lobby lounge and restaurant. I didn't pay… Read more

I know it’s Covid but how can you charge so much for a dump of a room without access to hot tub, lobby lounge and restaurant. I didn't pay enough attention when booking and so I'm being honest with this review so you can avoid this place. My teen kid joked with me rest of our trip cuz I told her Prior to arriving that I was treating us/splurging, then we got here and it's soooo not a splurge expect the price. Read less
