Hotel Shangri-LA

Santa Monica, Los Angeles

The hotel

The very essence of the golden age of Hollywood glamour, the Hotel Shangri-La has been welcoming guests since 1939. An Art Deco treasure, sumptuous guest rooms and suites offer iconic views of the ocean or the city and come very well-equipped indeed. When you can tear yourself away, there’s the poolside to relax by – treat yourself to a private cabana and it becomes a real retreat. There are plenty of restaurants on your doorstep but the hotel’s own should not be missed. Featuring classically trained and creative chefs, feast on the freshest local produce, handpicked from the weekly Santa Monica Farmers Market whilst admiring views of the Pacific & Palisades Park. Pre-dinner, take the elevator all the way to the top for drinks at Onyx Rooftop Bar offering world-class sunsets as well as cocktails late evenings. Santa Monica Pier is a 10-minute walk away but should you wish to explore further, the metro is also a 10-minute walk which will connect you to Hollywood, downtown and more quickly and affordably too.

My husband and I stayed here for our honeymoon (supposed to do this trip last year but covid got in the way). The staff was great and very welcoming every time we came into the hotel. They let us check in early after we had been traveling all day (flew in from the east coast). They were very accommodating as well by letting us leave our luggage with them until our room was ready. Room cleaning was provided every day which was nice. The only thing is they stopped providing us with our face cloths and towel mat for the floor when you got out of the shower - which would have been fine if they left the ones we had been using. That was the only downfall I guess you could say. The location is great and walkable to many areas in Santa Monica. We utilized the onyx rooftop bar, room service, and their restaurant downstairs for breakfast. Everything was great! Definitely recommend! Read less

Fantastic location for our weekend wedding trip. Staff was mostly really nice, and the free breakfast was nice but a bit slow despite being pretty empty. The rooms definitely needed updating but were comfortable.
