Hotel Shangri-LA

Santa Monica, Los Angeles

The hotel

The very essence of the golden age of Hollywood glamour, the Hotel Shangri-La has been welcoming guests since 1939. An Art Deco treasure, sumptuous guest rooms and suites offer iconic views of the ocean or the city and come very well-equipped indeed. When you can tear yourself away, there’s the poolside to relax by – treat yourself to a private cabana and it becomes a real retreat. There are plenty of restaurants on your doorstep but the hotel’s own should not be missed. Featuring classically trained and creative chefs, feast on the freshest local produce, handpicked from the weekly Santa Monica Farmers Market whilst admiring views of the Pacific & Palisades Park. Pre-dinner, take the elevator all the way to the top for drinks at Onyx Rooftop Bar offering world-class sunsets as well as cocktails late evenings. Santa Monica Pier is a 10-minute walk away but should you wish to explore further, the metro is also a 10-minute walk which will connect you to Hollywood, downtown and more quickly and affordably too.

Very well taken care of beautiful building! Exceptionally clean! Service was incredible, everyone was helpful, respectful, and attentive. Came for an impromptu family trip and it's location and price was everything you need. Walking distance to mall and beach.

This hotel is average on all levels except for the service teams and the greatest concierge professional ( Adrienne Miley ) that I have ever had the pleasure to meet in my many years of travel. First about the hotel. It has a good location close to the beach, pier, nightlife and restaurants. The rooms, ground and common areas are clean and well maintained. The rooms are average size, clean and modern except for the dirty old windows and frames. The bed and bedding, sheets, pillows are very high quality clean and new. Bathrooms have been updated and have a nostalgic appearance. Water pressure and quality are great. What I did not like about the room, first no mini bar or snacks also my coffee pot was left on unknown to me and was making a loud clicking sound which caused me to woken up many times during my first night not to mention the fire hazard with an empty hot pot that was touching the drapes. The Wi-Fi was not working and a call to tech support did not help anything and was a waste of time. Now let me tell you about this amazing professional Adrienne Miley. She is a wonderfully knowledgeable and helpful concierge. When i asked for suggestions about the area she had offered a wealth of information and printed directions. I do not doubt has made many connections with businesses all over the state. My second day I asked where I could find a bag for my beach gear and she went to her car and borrowed me a bad for my things also at checkout gave me amazing suggestions for luck on my journey north. This women is gold and is a huge asset to the hotel. If it was not for her and the rest of the staff I think would never have left 4 start rating and this would have been a much different review. Also a notable staff member RJ is great. Read less

When i go back to Santa Monica, I will swing by to say hello no matter where I stay. Thanks for all you do Adrienne! Read less
Image of the Tripadvisor rating Disgruntled security manager runs the show

The location was not bad, but the for the price of this place, you would expect the staff to a little more helpful. The security manager seems to think he owns the hotel and has a major attitude.. he’s very angry and rude. I think he’s upset he couldn’t get into the police academy and had to take this rent-a-cop position. The food was great and… Read more

The security manager seems to think he owns the hotel and has a major attitude.. he’s very angry and rude. I think he’s upset he couldn’t get into the police academy and had to take this rent-a-cop position. The food was great and the wait staff was friendly. The room was small and we were not provided enough towels and we were not provided with robes as the room description indicated. The shower is dangerous to get into, it’s basically a soaker tub that you need a step stool to get it into. Mind you, the step stool is disgusting and rusty. How would a person with limited ability be able to take a shower??! Read less

Adrienne - head of the concierge, went above and beyond what we could have hoped for. She helped like a caring friend and made our stay, one to remember forever. She touched our hearts and because of that besides the great view, great food, and prompt attention to all of our needs, she turned us into returning guests for another visit hopefully… Read more
