Loews Santa Monica Beach Hotel

Santa Monica, Los Angeles

The hotel

Meet your LA home-from-home on the beach. Just a few short paces from Santa Monica Beach, and a sunny five-minute stroll from the world-famous Santa Monica Pier, this upscale address makes the very most of its awesome, face-tilted-to-the-sun location by creating as many links between the indoors and outdoors as possible. Rooms and suites are airy, spacious and have a simple elegance that evokes the beach with sandy tones and splashes of blue. Where possible, guests have ocean views and some even have private terraces or fire pits. The heated pool is deeply inviting and its deck commands sweeping ocean views, too. Every evening, meanwhile, the cosy Fireside Lounge takes the baton from the setting sun and casts its golden light on guests as they sip signature cocktails and sample mouthwatering tapas.

It had some nice touches which we knew we were paying extra for but wanted somewhere nice to unwind for 3 nights having crossed 5 states on a road trip for 10 days prior. The pool was welcoming and the hot pool too. Bar service outside was excellent with friendly staff. The room was nice and well maintained. We didn't eat in the restaurants as we like to explore the area and try different things. Good position for the pier and restaurants and getting down to Venice Beach. After the bar bills we spent £700 per night - a new record! Read less

Really happy with my stay. Rooms clean, bright, functional yet charming. Location is great for santa Monica. Food and service was also excellent, especially Michele who quickly sorted the only minor issue while there. For price, all in all, I think it was 5 star. One minus for not having a SPA. Will definitely be back

Just back here from 3 nights to cap off an Anniversary trip. It's a nice hotel (room modern and clean) but nothing special to speak of. It's the only hotel on our trip that didn't have complimentary water. We had to pay a resort fee yet every day when we tried to go to the pool all the chairs were taken and they never gave us waters when we got in our car, all things apparently included in the fee. Nothing wrong with the hotel at all, but sort of underwhelming. Also the pool was a crazy scene with kids everywhere - good for families, definitely not if you came to relax. Read less

We booked a 4 night stay here based on the excellent reviews. The rates are way too high for the value. The hotel is pretty and clean, but definitely not worth the price. On top of the ridiculous rates, we were charged $32/night for resort fee and $60/day for valet! I made an error when booking my room (one month in advance) and NO ONE at the hotel was willing to help me fix my error. Gail, one of the front desk managers, ignored my two voice mails and finally after my third message returned my call (3 weeks later) and was point blank not willing to help fix my error! The only staff that were excellent were at the valet. The bell hop was rude and completely annoyed that we touched his cart! We checked in at 2:00 and were told they would try and get us in to our room early and would call us as soon as the room was ready. By 4:00 we had no call and when I asked at the desk they said yes we could now get into our room. When paying these high prices I would expect much better customer service. The location is great in terms of access to the beach, but it is surrounded by a lot of vagrants and as soon as you step outside all you can smell is urine. The traffic is ridiculous and not easy to get in and out of the hotel when driving. The best bet is to walk, but the location is quite far from the main shopping area and you have to walk through a lot of vagrants to get there. I didn't feel safe walking at night. There are nice fireplace tables at the pool, however the service was slow and again I would have expected more. The pool is nice and there are lounge chairs available, however most are in the shade and with the wind coming off the ocean, we found it too cool to sit. I would never stay at this hotel again. What a lovely hotel. Got to the hotel early and was checked in no problem (10.30), Michelle on reception was wonderful and went above and beyond to help us. Would highly recommend and can’t wait to return.
