Loews Santa Monica Beach Hotel

Santa Monica, Los Angeles

The hotel

Meet your LA home-from-home on the beach. Just a few short paces from Santa Monica Beach, and a sunny five-minute stroll from the world-famous Santa Monica Pier, this upscale address makes the very most of its awesome, face-tilted-to-the-sun location by creating as many links between the indoors and outdoors as possible. Rooms and suites are airy, spacious and have a simple elegance that evokes the beach with sandy tones and splashes of blue. Where possible, guests have ocean views and some even have private terraces or fire pits. The heated pool is deeply inviting and its deck commands sweeping ocean views, too. Every evening, meanwhile, the cosy Fireside Lounge takes the baton from the setting sun and casts its golden light on guests as they sip signature cocktails and sample mouthwatering tapas.

First let me say, its total first world problems to be staying in this hotel and feeling depressed you're not down the road at Shutters or Casa Del Mar. But that's the truth. This hotel is fine. The views from the lobby are beautiful and it looks like there is a nice pool (too cold for me right now!) but after that this place is a no for me. Very simple - it’s loud and generic. I had a room overlooking the pool which meant you were getting hit from 2 sides with loud echoing noise at night: the pool and the atrium/lobby where the bar is. Totally understandable people want to hang out at these places late into the evening but the way the hotel is built, the noise in both of these spaces just billows throughout and you can hear it through your door or if god-forbid you want to leave your sliding door open to get fresh ocean air. Even behind that, there's a lot lacking compared to neighboring options. The ambiance is pretty standard vs. Casa Del Mar which is just stunning for only SLIGHTLY more money. The rooms are so generic I feel like i could be in any standard business hotel anywhere. Yet Casa feels like a dream. You name it, for slightly more money you could be on the beach (vs across the street), with a better ambiance, incredible service and a truly special & luxurious experience. If this is your only option in Santa Monica, its fine. Nothing to be scared of. But if you can stay down the beach at Shutters or Casa, skip this one for sure. Read less

Lovely hotel in a popular resort. Access almost direct to the beach. Bar prices are over inflated as expected in a hotel of this standard and the $60 per night valet parking is way overpriced...but then again if you stay here this is what you pay. Didn't eat in the hotel as i spent time out and about but the smell from the kitchen was pleasant, as was the smell of cannabis from above the front corner of the atrium (yes, i know the smell after enough years in law enforcement). Still, no harm done, a nice hotel in a prime location. Read less

Great location on the beach and overall nice property, but I can't give more than 3 stars given the walls were paper thin. There was a family staying next door to me where I felt like I could literally identify the voices of every single member of the family. There was a family staying next door to me where I felt like I could literally identify the voices of every single member of the family. The hotel must know this is a problem as there's a sound machine in the room, which did help. I've been in other hotels (usually budget hotels) where there's a lot of hallway noise, but I've never heard this much constant chatter from a room next door - particularly unacceptable given this is not a budget hotel. Charged shipping charges when receiving shipped items sent to me at this hotel. I even phoned to check if there were any shipping charges and also followed up with an email to advise of items being shipped to the hotel for my arrival. At no point was I advised there would be extra charges which only appeared on my bill upon exit. Very… Read more

Image of the Tripadvisor rating Good location but noisy hotel

I came here for business - offsite - and the food was delicious. The location of this hotel is very good too and easy to go back and forth from the beach. However, if you go to the beach, you have to go back to the front of the hotel (main avenue) to enter as the guest keys do not open the back doors with beach access.
