The Cliffs Resort

Pismo Beach, California

Virgin rating

The hotel

Its spot on its own bluff doesn’t just provide The Cliffs Resort its name; it gives it incredible ocean views, a perfect setting for its heated oceanfront pool, and the inspiration for the splashes of coastal blues that brighten its earthy toned guestrooms. Laying its claim to the beach below, you get direct access to the sands. On scenic Highway One, it’s just a drive from San Luis Obispo County’s championship golf, wineries and dining. But it would be hard to top the hotel’s own Marisol restaurant, with its ‘market-driven’ menu supplied by local farmers and fishermen, its bar winning accolades like ‘best drink with a view’ and hosting an award-winning happy hour, and its Champagne Sunday Brunch a local favourite.

From the welcoming glasses of champagne to the easy check out, the Cliff's Hotel made our stay wonderful. We had our dog with us and we always felt welcomed. We were offered a dog bed and bowl for her. Since we travel these items, we declined. It is nice to know that we don't have to have these. Our room had easy access to the area outside… Read more

We were offered a dog bed and bowl for her. Since we travel these items, we declined. It is nice to know that we don't have to have these. Our room had easy access to the area outside where we could walk our dog and enjoy the incredible views. We dined on the patio of the Marisol Restaurant and brought our dog without any problem. This was our second stay here and won't be our last. Read less

We had a great stay at The Cliffs. We spent 3 nights on the property and I would be happy to come back. The things that really stood out to me were the service and the location. Every staff member we interacted with went above and beyond and made it a point to remember us, chat with our kiddo, and generally provide authentically great service. The valet guys were super friendly and quick, too. The location is stunning—the cliffs are gorgeous and it’s just a short walk down the stairs to a beautiful, quiet beach with tide pools. It’s a bit removed from downtown Pismo, which we preferred as it was less buzzy, and there are still plenty of restaurants nearby in Shell Beach, just a 3 minute drive. I think this property is probably better suited for families than a romantic getaway if you plan to hang out at the pool—there were a lot of kids at the pool and most of the ocean view rooms overlook the pool so it can be a little loud. I would recommend choosing a different room type (not the pool view) if you want something a little quieter and relaxing. The rooms are nicely decorated and comfortable; the bathrooms could use a little refresh, but they were clean and fine. The only minor inconvenience we experienced was the service at the pool was really slow and we happened to catch the server right before she went on break two days, so we weren’t able to order food and drink at the pool and had to go to the restaurant to order, and come back to pick it up. Not a big deal, and the food and drink we did order was pretty good. All in all, I think it’s a great choice in the central coast! Read less

This place is an absolute gem. We stopped in Pismo as a halfway point between Monterey and SB and honestly wished we stayed longer. The hotel is lovely. The rims are nice with with lovely big comfy beds and lots of pillows. Parking is free of charge and lots of water given. Years ago I stay at the Cliffs Resort. It was wonderful, the beauty, the vibe, the staff were great!! We are heading back to celebrate my parent's 60th Anniversary and since traveling is difficult for them, I specifically decided on The Cliffs because it feels like you have gone to Hawaii, without getting on a plane. Can't wait!!!
