Kimpton Hotel Palomar Chicago

Chicago, USA

The hotel

Anyone wishing for a sophisticated and calming approach to accommodation in Chicago should look no further than the Palomar which rates guests' well-being and comfort levels just as seriously as the stylish interior décor. The hotel offers just that little bit extra with personalised in-room Yoga sessions on the TV or perhaps you would prefer an early morning jog? Of course, you don't have to jog to be able to enjoy the sights and guests staying at the Palomar will be pleased to learn that River North, Navy Pier and the Magnificent Mile are all within walking distance. Further fabulous fitness facilities come in the form of the hotel's indoor heated swimming pool and 24-hour gym which are both guaranteed to help you work up an appetite just in time to check out the gastro-lounge dishes at the Sable Kitchen & Bar. What with in-room dining options and complimentary wine tasting sessions every day at 5.00pm, it's a wonder that you'll find the time to set foot outside however, it would be rude not to so this is your chance to give the Windy City a whirl.

I’d give this hotel 4.5 if I could. Hotel is in easy walking distance of most evening places and restaurants. Red line stop is also right there. Staff was super friendly. Always said hi as I walked by. Always friendly no matter who was on duty. I had a spa room. I booked this hotel because of that and I’m so happy I did. Totally worth every penny. With their late checkout I was able to take a bath before checkout. The hotel is lovely but just needs some minor fixing up. Handle on my shower was coming loose. Cracks in the spa tub that made it impossible to guess what they were for. Headboard had divots (not pictured). Just needs a staff member to visit each room and take care of these items. Another odd thing was the $100 hold on my credit card for “incidentals”. With the restaurant closed, no room service, and no maid service I wonder what was even possible to charge to the room. Seemed silly. I didn’t care but seemed totally odd. I slept quite well but just note that state street was a bit loud. So if you are a light sleeper ask for a room that doesn’t face state street. The last odd thing was the soap dish. While stylish, it wasn’t practical. Try picking up flat soap from that dish, I had to pry it up each time. Nice idea for the dish but poorly executed when combined with the flat soap. Read less

But the good part, needing to make due with covid, room was nice, we had a corner city view room. Spacious, clean, quiet (except for the city noise outside) no complaints here. Even though there was no wine hour, as we walked through the lobby in the late afternoon, the desk offered us a glass of prosecco. Very accommodating front desk, we checked in early without a problem. The roof top terrace is open in the evenings to just relax and enjoy the city lights. This hotel is about 4 easy walking blocks to the Chicago river. Now about the people on the street outside the hotel. It's Chicago, the sidewalk is a public sidewalk. So therefore, we felt safe outside and around the hotel, but there are still other people of all types on the sidewalk. There's alot of tourists in this area. Lots of hotels, lots of rental bicycles. Just stay on the main roads as you would in any large city. Overall, we'll be back. Read less

I’m still trying to find out how this hotel was ever a 4 1/2 Star hotel?!! This place was dirty with bums sitting and standing all around the business sometimes it felt unsafe. No on site parking. Rooms are old and dingy. Can't even give the courtesy extra roll of TP, towels, among other things. We went through the Hotel Tonight app and if I could have I wouldn't have stayed. Staff though was friendly when greeting. Location is convenient I guess.

Hotel Palomar consistently delivers upscale luxury in the heart Of River North. I love coming here at least once a month if possible just to enjoy the jacuzzi tub offered in the king Premier spa rooms. The rooms here resemble a home environment rather than a generic hotel stay and if you choose to upgrade to a king Premier spa room you can enjoy a soothing bath that will definitely add to your experience. The staff here has always been reliably friendly especially to their longterm guests and inner circle members who are part of the Loyalty program. Everyone here always remembers my name upon check in and there's even a wine hour between 5pm till 6pm in the beautiful living room where you can meet other guests and have drinks and snacks. If you love good food Sable Kitchen is downstairs and if you just wish to relax in your room there are plenty of new movies still in the theater to order from your television set. After my visit I felt deeply relaxed, well rested and nourished. The location is perfect because the Palomar is in the middle of River North so you can literally walk to all the neighborhood wine bars, restaurants, shopping and movie theaters. Visiting the Palomar is always a splurge and I always receive the five star treatment from the time I check in till check out the next day. Another thing I enjoy and appreciate is the fact that the beds are always so comfortable and you truly feel like you are entering a sacred cocoon of cheerful vibes rather than a stale hotel space. I thank the entire front desk staff and all the employees of Sable Kitchen and the hotel Palomar for always making my stays so special and soothing. I always encourage my friends and all new tourists visiting Chicago to select the Hotel Palomar for its consistently excellent service and heart warming ambiance. Read less
