Our family of 4 (kids ages 5 and 6) stayed at the Omni Chicago for the first time and we loved it. The moment we walked in the entry we were greeted by staff who warmly welcomed us and gave my daughters a small drawstring bag that contained activities, coupons, and a squishy toy. We were directed to the 3rd floor to check in. We arrived almost three hours before check-in and planned to drop our bags off and enjoy the city for a while. Much to our surprise, a room was ready and we were able to check in. The front desk staff member signed us up for their free rewards program. He knew we were heading to the American Girl store and discreetly asked me if I’d like to add the American Girl package to our stay (includes a bed and robe for the doll). I said yes. We headed up to our suite—all their rooms are suite style. It looks like an older hotel, but the decor and furnishings are comfortable and stylish. The view was mostly of the building next door (could see city if we looked out at an angle). I imagine we could have had a better view if that was something we asked for/was a priority for us. After we got settled, we headed out for our American Girl adventure. When we returned, not only had housekeeping delivered beds and robes, there were also personalized notes for our daughters and pajamas for the dolls. In addition, there was a sweet treat and bottle of sparkling wine for the grownups. We spent some time in the indoor pool, which was within a large fitness area. The pool was 3’6” throughout, so great for littles. The water was a little cloudy and strongly chlorinated, but the pool area was clean and nice overall. When we returned to our room, staff stopped by to deliver milk and cookies and bottles of water. Overall: The staff were helpful and kind (answering questions, bringing extra towels when I called for them), the hotel was nice, the location was fantastic, the price was reasonable, and all the extra little surprises were fun. I’d definitely recommend the Omni, especially for families with young kids. Our room might have been tight if we had teenagers, but I’m sure there’s other room options. Read less
Image of the Tripadvisor rating Recreational Marijuana use in Omni Hotel Chicago / Cheaper Valet Parking Tip

I would not recommend friends or family to stay here. Especially if you have someone in your party that may partake in medical or recreational marijuana. With out any warning my friends were kicked out of the Omni Chicago at 8:00 am for suspecting them for smoking marijuana and charged a $500 clean up fee. This was ridiculous on how the situation was handled. To kick out paying tourist without any warning is a horrible way to do business. Management on duty was incompetent and believed we were warned by the staff when we were locked out of our room the previous night. That was not the case, when I came down to get the keys fixed I talked to the receptionist on duty and specifically asked why we were locked out. She said, “It may have been caused by having your room key next to your credit cards.”. I replied, “There is no chance for all three of our room cards to have the same issue and to please have management contact me to discuss how this happened”. At no time did she ever mention anything about the smell of marijuana. With the recreational marijuana laws changing less than 3 weeks ago you would think management would be more lenient and clearly communicate with guest that the smell of marijuana will get you kicked out without warning and charged $500. As we were being escorted out by security, I asked the manager, “Where do tourist go to use marijuana?”, and he literally recommended hotel guest do something illegal which is to go right outside of the hotel. In Chicago, it is illegal to smoke marijuana in public areas. Recreational marijuana use for tourist seems to be a huge issue that the city of Chicago and hotel executives will need to address. The state allows the sell of recreational marijuana to tourist but there no place to consume marijuana. Some marijuana dispensaries are even recommending tourist not to smoke in public areas and to smoke in their hotel rooms. So this is why I am writing this review… To clearly communicate with potential guest that if you or any of your guest plan on vaping, smoking, or eating recreational or medical marijuana in your hotel, I highly recommend going to one of the many other hotels in Chicago that would love your business. Most hotels may not allow the consumption of marijuana, but most hotels turn a blind eye. With new recreational marijuana laws in effect there should be some leniency. Definitely at least a warning to guest and at most a $250 fine (not $500) like most other Omni hotels in the United States. We should not have been kicked out either. The whole entire situation was due to the lack of communication from Omni Hotels. The manager on staff should be re-trained on how to handle these situations or should not be in a customer service position. Here are a few things Omni can do for future guests… Be sure to clearly communicate that marijuana use is not allowed on or near the property. Do not tell them to smoke marijuana 15 feet outside of the building because it is illegal to smoke in public places. If marijuana use is suspected, have a staff member call, leave a voice mail, or meet with the guest to inform them of Omi’s policies and penalties. Waking guest up and telling them to leave without a warning and charging a $500 fee because they suspect marijuana use is ridiculous. Lastly, if you plan on staying at the Omni Chicago, you can save $20 a day on parking by booking your valet parking with the app “Spot Hero” instead of going through Omni Hotels. You can literally still park as you would if you were valet parking with the Omni, but just purchase the time frame you want with “Spot Hero” and show the valet guys your receipt on the app. Read less

No lines for check-in and check-out--yay! Baggage check made us a little nervous when we we checked four bags and only received one claim ticket. When we called for our bags, they told us we should have had four tickets and took luggage descriptions assuring us they would try their best to find our luggage. But alas, not to worry, a very polite and gracious bellman arrived at our door within minutes with all the correct bags. The room was beautiful and clean. Loved the suite setup with a separate sitting area and second TV to help avoid viewing disagreements. This was a great find on our first trip to Chicago. We learned that this hotel is closer to Chicago Midway airport, so will fly in there instead of O'Hare in the future. We plan to stay here again on our return visit. Read less

Nice hotel near Michigan Ave shops. Valet and front desk staff provided great service and even changed our room to give our family of 5 a little more space. Pool and hot tub are very small for the size of the hotel, and valet parking is pretty pricey. A little noisy overnight from the occasional sirens, but great hotel overall.
