Monaco Denver a Kimpton Hotel

Denver, Colorado

The hotel

Deep in downtown Denver, Hotel Monaco has got sports and sights, bars and boutiques, and eateries and entertainment in every direction. Transformed from two historic buildings into an up-to-the-minute urban pad, it promises those mod-cons and little indulgences that make a city break special. Each night, they lay on a complimentary wine reception and, before bed, there’s a ‘nightcap pairing’ waiting – perhaps port with a sweet treat? If that sounds a bit naughty, you can always atone at the complimentary 24-hour fitness centre. You might only be a walk from the restaurants of Victorian-era Larimer Square, and brew bars, clubs and dining of the LoDo district, but there’s dinner on your doorstep – at the hotel’s much-written about Denver dining spot Panzamo, featuring north Italian cuisine.

Despite having only limited on site services because of COVID, my stay was great. Upgraded to a beautiful suite and service was always fast and friendly. Only negatives were no room service and funky smell in lobby. Would definitely stay here again.

Room on the smaller side but with high ceilings. Forgettable view of a parking garage but at least the room was quiet. Agent at the check in desk seemed overwhelmed. She couldn’t change the credit card on a guest’s reservation nor confirm if the destination fee was assessed on award stays. Called down the next day and was told by a very bubbly woman that the destination fee would indeed be charged on my award stay but I could use the daily $10 food and beverage credit from multiple days all at once. Woke up early on the last day since the restaurant closes for breakfast at 11 AM. Service at the restaurant was lacking due to staff shortages. Checked out and found out that the destination fee was not charged on award stays. Very frustrating that the front desk staff did not correctly communicate that during my stay. Same thing happened at an Intercontinental hotel in NYC, so now I know not to trust anything I hear about destination fees on award stays at IHG properties. Read less

This was our home base during our Denver trip, and we couldn't have asked for a more pleasant experience! The front desk staff were super friendly and accommodating. The hotel decor and cleanliness were top notch, and our room was so nice. They even offered a complimentary happy hour and guest access to bikes! I would definitely stay here… Read more

We showed up to the front of the hotel and no one was there. I walked in the front door to ask if there was valet and a bellman. I proceeded to empty my car. I put everything on the sidewalk and eventually a fellow pulled up with a cart. He watched me load the cart. Then things fell off and he just stood there. I went Inside and asked am I at… Read more

Because it sure feels like I am at a Holiday Inn Express. That wasn't exactly a welcome I expected nor appreciated. The restaurant manager was outstanding! Dinner was delicious! Read less

I understand there are covid effects in the hotel industry, but charging high prices when amenities and service are missing seems like a ripoff. Service is what really differentiates the Kimpton brand from say a run of the mill Holiday Inn Express. Unfortunately, Kimpton Monaco Denver did not really deliver. Take the restaurant for example. Closed for breakfast on Monday and Tuesday. Closed for dinner Sunday and Monday. If you are staying Sunday to Tuesday for example, you virtually have no restaurant option at all. OK fine, but why still charge the same amenity fee of $23 when the restaurant credit that comes with it cannot be used as the restaurant is closed for two days? You pay close to $300/night and you get no housekeeping. No room service. limited bathroom storage, no laundry service. To me that's disingenuous. No recommended books that they advertise on the website. Small touches are what differentiate upscale hotels from generic ones. The building itself is good looking, location is very central, and the room was clean. But I can get that also from a cheaper hotel. The guy working at the valet was kind. The front desk girls were friendly. I just think overall there is an employee shortage here. There was nothing terrible with the hotel. Just disappointed considering the price. The rating reflects state of the hotel compared to price charged and brand expectations. Read less
