Monaco Denver a Kimpton Hotel

Denver, Colorado

The hotel

Deep in downtown Denver, Hotel Monaco has got sports and sights, bars and boutiques, and eateries and entertainment in every direction. Transformed from two historic buildings into an up-to-the-minute urban pad, it promises those mod-cons and little indulgences that make a city break special. Each night, they lay on a complimentary wine reception and, before bed, there’s a ‘nightcap pairing’ waiting – perhaps port with a sweet treat? If that sounds a bit naughty, you can always atone at the complimentary 24-hour fitness centre. You might only be a walk from the restaurants of Victorian-era Larimer Square, and brew bars, clubs and dining of the LoDo district, but there’s dinner on your doorstep – at the hotel’s much-written about Denver dining spot Panzamo, featuring north Italian cuisine.

Had a fabulous stay at the Kimpton Hotel Monaco for a 3-day company meeting. The rooms were spacious and super modern with bathrooms. Loved the yoga mat in the closet and robes and the minibar snacks were fun and so not the usual crap you see in most hotels. The staff was extremely helpful texting me daily to find out if I needed anything. Our meeting space was perfect for our group and the food they served us was really quite good. The only negative is the fitness center needed major upgrades and hopefully they put in the top of the line Life Fitness equipment. Read less

This hotel and it's amenities are fantastic but where it really shines is it's incredible staff. They were, kind, attentive, and extremely welcoming. I was traveling with a dog and they made it super easy and stress free!

Wow - this was our first time in a Kimpton Hotel and we will always be staying here from now on. The hotel itself is decorated beautifully, however, it was the staff that has made our stay unforgettable. Our concierge, Chris, was the one who made our stay so amazing. He was so welcoming and helpful for recommendations. We told him it was our anniversary and when we got back to our room, he had sent a bottle of wine, fruits/chocolates, and a personalized note. Thank you, Chris, for making our trip, so far, amazing! Read less

My partner arrived early and requested a room with two beds and explained I would be in later. She also asked if the metered parking in front was OK as she arrived on Sunday (free parking) and the meters would not take her money. As I was not there the staff at the desk tried to decline giving her bottled water for both of us (bizarrely petty for a hotel of their purported caliber). When I arrived about an hour later, the same desk staff angrily answered the doorbell and inquired why I didn't use my key. After making my way to the room, went to wash up and the sink drain was not working. We had to crawl underneath to open the drain as the linkage was dis-connected. At that point, also noticed shower curtain was hanging by a couple of rings as if someone had started to hang it and not finished. Next, the bath spout's copper plumbing line was hanging loose out of the wall and the wallpaper was peeling in several places. After sleeping for about 3 hours, a herd of folks disembarked from the elevator at about 3:00am and started screaming at eachother in the hall for about half an hour. Up and off in the morning, was greeted with a parking ticket from just after midnight. Seems as though the hotel would warn you of this "gotcha" on Sunday nights (parking meters won't take money until midnight Sunday and then parking enforcement shows up at midnight to ticket everyone in front of the hotel) No one mentioned the problem when asked the night before. Called IHG to report all this and was told that they couldn't find our reservation----three different times. It turns out the desk had mispelled my partner's first name and didn't bother equating "Abby" with "Abbey." After 6 phone calls and a few hours on the phone, no reasonable resolution. What a ridiculous circus. I would whole heartedly recommend not rewarding the specific hotel nor their parent company with your money. There are a number of hotels on the same street that will earn your business. Read less

I've stayed at a number of Kimpton properties and they're all excellent. The Kimpton Hotel Monaco Denver is downright exceptional. I've travelled all over and stayed at hotels both swanky and not so. My recent stay might have been the most complete hotel experiences I've ever had. The vibe of the Kimpton is perfect. The rooms are comfortable and luxurious yet functional. The staff is attentive and capable yet not obsequious. The hotel room itself was so comfortable my wife and I didn't really want to leave to explore Denver. My only issues are so minor as to seem silly. I wish they had a more serviceable desk chair in the room since the one they had is pretty useless for doing any actual work. Along that same tangent some brighter in room lighting options would be good as well. The lighting was perfect for most activities but once again, not bright enough for me to do any writing. Otherwise, the experience was perfect. The on-property Italian restaurant, Panzano, is just as good as the hotel. I've stayed at several Denver properties that are more expensive but nowhere near as good. Just no reason to stay anywhere else when I'm in town. Read less
