The Hotel Highland at Five Points South

Birmingham, Alabama

The hotel

One of Birmingham’s premier luxury hotels, the Hotel Highland offers a contemporary setting within walking distance of a myriad of attractions, including shops, bars and restaurants. Expect to enjoy southern-style service at its best and rooms thoughtfully appointed with all mod cons. A complimentary continental breakfast can be enjoyed at a leisurely pace, preparing you perfectly for a day of sightseeing. Come sundown, head to the H Bar in the hotel’s lobby for a martini or two before choosing where to dine for the evening. A hotel with an interesting history, it was formerly the Pickwick Club, a dance hall, its flamboyant interior an antidote to Depression Era America. In it’s new guise as the Hotel Highland it is still one of the city’s favourite places to be.

I stayed here on my recent business trip to Birmingham. The hotel is a renovated and restored building in the historic Five Points area of Birmingham. It is located close to UAB. The room was spacious and clean. The bed was comfortable. The walk-in shower was great but the sliding glass door tended to stick. The staff was exceptionally friendly.

I spent three wonderful nights in the Hotel Indigo Birmingham Five Points and it exceeded my expectations on every level! My flight arrived late but I was still able to grab a delicious burger and beer right downstairs at the Black Market Bar and Grill. There are a bunch of cool bars and both cheap and upscale places to eat literally right next to the hotel. Self parking is super convenient and cheap right behind the hotel for under $20/day or you can use the valet service. I was visiting Birmingham for the first time to see the Civil Rights Sites and was able to walk or Lyft/Uber basically anywhere in the city for under $10. The bartender at the Apothecary bar was super nice as were all the hotel staff ! Thanks for a wonderful stay!! Would definitely stay there again should I visit Birmingham again! Read less

A pig dolled up in makeup. When we arrived to the room, the floor was covered in dog fur & had not been swept or vacuumed. Cheap drywall repair. Bar inside hotel was out of basic drinks and the bartenders needed a sheet of paper to make a drink. Intoxicated guy urinated on the floor & Staff never cleaned it up. When I told the front desk all this,… Read more

When I told the front desk all this, the receptionist said they'd have their manager call me for customer feedback. That never happened. Overall, way to expensive for the quality of service & comfort. Read less
