Battle House Renaissance Mobile

Mobile, Alabama

The hotel

Past meets present. Southern charm meets modern city slickness. Fine dining meets casual tavern tucker. The Battle House Renaissance Mobile Hotel & Spa is a cacophony of contrasts. A member of ‘Historic Hotels of America’, its sympathetic revamp brought it bang-up-to-date with musts like complimentary WiFi, but didn’t lose classic luxuries like marble bathrooms, or unique features like the lobby’s whispering arch. The outside spaces are equally well-dressed, with its pool patio accessorised with potted greenery and a hot tub for added relaxation. The downtown Mobile address puts you near plenty of eateries, but why dine out when the hotel’s home to the district’s only AAA Four Diamond restaurant, The Trellis Room, as well as casual pizza joint Joe Cain Café, and the martinis and light bites of Royal Street Tavern?

Here only for an overnight- to meet family. What a beautiful hotel. The staff- especially Toni, could have not been better. Drinks after dinner were great. We hope the renovations are finished soon, and we would like to come back. billooltewah

We booked a room at the Battlehouse for our wedding night since we were not leaving for a honeymoon right away and our wedding venue was not far from there. Being local I have been to The Battlehouse many times to the spa, the restaurants and stayed a couple of times overnight. It was always a great experience, I had no hesitation about planning to spend our wedding night there. When we arrived in a limo around 9:30 PM there were no doormen or bellhops at the main entrance, our limo driver was kind enough to help us inside with our bags as we were still in full wedding attire so I could barely keep up with my dress. Once inside, the lobby was blocked off and there was no one around. There was a sign saying there was renovation going on, but no directions as to where to go to check in. After walking around for 10 minutes we saw a security guard and asked where check in was, I practically had to beg the man to point us in the right direction. Once we finally found the alternate check in desk it seems our room was not cleaned (9:30 PM) and the receptionist was going to have to put us in a queen room instead of the king room we booked. Again, I'M STANDING RIGHT IN FRONT OF HER IN MY WEDDING DRESS! My husband spoke up and said no, and i then mentioned it was our wedding night. At that point she said she could put us in a suite instead of a queen room. Once we got our keys, my husband asked her if the mini bar in the suite was stocked, we were told there is no mini bar in the suite. So, he asked if she could have room service bring us some soft drinks, waters and a bottle of champagne. We were told room service was closed for the night (at 9:30 on a Friday night) so we asked about the bar or restaurants, were told they were closed for renovation, asked about the in house convenience store and told it was already closed for the day. We were pointed in the direction of the elevator with no offer of help, no bellhops around and not a luggage cart to be seen. When we actually got to the room it was clean but freezing, this was the first cold night of the year. I turned up the thermostats in the bedroom and in the living area. We had a bag of food from the wedding that the caterer had packed for us to take and I loaded all of it into the mini fridge in the room as we weren't hungry. The next morning, after sleeping on horrible pillows and no extra blankets to be found, I woke up in a nice warm bedroom but when I stepped into the living area, it was still freezing and the bummer about this, so was the bathroom. Sucks to take a long hot shower and have to step out into a bathroom that feels like a refrigerator. After going to breakfast, again, not in the hotel because the restaurants were closed, we started packing up to leave. When I opened the mini fridge to get out the food from the wedding the smell of shrimp hit me hard. The refrigerator apparently was not working or had been turned off. There as at least $100 worth of food in there, all ruined. I called the hotel several days later and spoke with a manager. All I got was an apology and a vouched for a free night, which I haven't actually received yet, but I'm betting will only be good Sunday through Thursday and exclude holidays. We should have received a full refund, it was our wedding night, you don't get a do over and that will always be the memory we have of what should have been the perfect end of the perfect day. Do NOT plan a special night here, you will be horribly disappointed Read less

If I could give this 6+ stars, I would. Rooms were amazingly comfortable, the health club was great, the lounge was nice, staff were very friendly. A++++. Will definitely stay here again when I return.

We stayed at the battle house one night in early November on the way to Orange Beach. We have long admired this hotel but it wasn't what we expected. The good: the hotel is beautiful. The location is great. I love the history of the hotel. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. Our room was beautiful. Beautiful view of the city. The bad: There really isn't a good option for parking except for valet parking. At 20 dollars a day plus tips. Yes the hotel states the valet fee on the website. But they don't state there aren't other good options to valet. At least not that I could see. We were told our other option was to park in the street or at another garage blocks away. No thanks. It is so inconvenient to not have access to your car except via valet. And expensive! The hotel is undergoing extensive renovations. The historic part of the hotel isn't even available currently. Do they state that when booking the hotel? Not that I could see? Disappointing. Our room wasn't very clean. There were some type of food stains on a chair hassock. Someone had evidently used it as a place to set their food? I put my feet on the hassock before my wife noticed the stains. Kind of gross. How was this missed? It was a vinyl hassock and could be easily wiped clean. Makes you wonder how well the rest of the room was cleaned? There were also mildew stains on the grout of the shower tiles. That didn't bother me but some people are sensitive to that (allergic) And you just don't expect that at a high end hotel. I don't write unfavorable reviews often. My wife and I just aren't that hard to please. We have stayed at the nearby Malaga multiple times and been very happy with our stays there. But we were not happy with our stay at the battle house. We expected more from such a high end hotel. Read less

Especially Monica. She is rude, unhelpful, and completely obnoxious. I need help with my reservation for February and she told me she was not interested in helping me with a reservation less than three days away.
