Battle House Renaissance Mobile

Mobile, Alabama

The hotel

Past meets present. Southern charm meets modern city slickness. Fine dining meets casual tavern. A member of ‘Historic Hotels of America’ with classic luxuries like marble bathrooms, or unique features like the lobby’s whispering arch. The outside spaces are equally well-dressed, with its pool patio accessorised with potted greenery and a hot tub for added relaxation. The downtown Mobile address puts you near plenty of eateries, but why dine out when the hotel’s home to the district’s only AAA Four Diamond restaurant, The Trellis Room, as well as casual pizza joint Joe Cain Café, and the martinis and light bites of Royal Street Tavern?

I stayed at the battle house for one night with my wife. Nice location downtown, close to everything. If it’s cool outside you can walk to pretty much everything. The hotel has a lot of history, the hotel was established in 1852. The room was very clean, all though the wall paper was peeling in the bathroom other than very nice. I think spa and… Read more

The hotel has a lot of history, the hotel was established in 1852. The room was very clean, all though the wall paper was peeling in the bathroom other than very nice. I think spa and pool area is the nicest thing about this hotel. It’s located on the roof over looking the Mobile bay and dry docks. I liked everything about this hotel except the parking, they only have Valet available. I personally don’t want anyone in my car while we’re going through a pandemic. The valets had masks but they didn’t all have them on their face which is the reason why I didn’t want to valet my car. So I had to park two blocks down at a public parking garage. I would like to come back and spend a long weekend at some point. Also there is a Starbucks and few other places to eat right across the street. Read less

I made my first business trip in some time on September 9. The staff really worked hard to deliver a strong hospitality experience and with added COVID-19 related precautions. I was disappointed in my experience. The hotel rooms need updating. The bathroom grout is moldy and I had broken tiles in my shower. I was disappointed that the restaurants weren’t open and they were not offering room service due to Covid. I’ve been staying in hotels and room service has been offered. The small Joe Cain restaurant was open… Read more

I was disappointed that the restaurants weren’t open and they were not offering room service due to Covid. I’ve been staying in hotels and room service has been offered. The small Joe Cain restaurant was open with a very limited menu. There is no onsite self parking. The staff was friendly, but I will just stay somewhere closer to meetings next time. Read less

No complaints with hot tub being closed or relaxation room in spa. Additionally no complaints with masks being required. Pool food and beverage service was outstanding. But, man, our room was in bad shape. Room 6118. AC wouldn’t stay cool, bath tub wouldn’t drain, sink wouldn’t drain, and phone didn’t work. We wanted to support a local hotel, but were frustrated with these basic items that need to be fixed in the room. Read less

We just left here and while the rooms were nice enough (clean, large) the hotel itself was disappointing. One of the elevators did not work and with social distancing it took 20 minutes to get to our room, with kids this can be a lifetime for them. One of the elevators did not work and with social distancing it took 20 minutes to get to our room, with kids this can be a lifetime for them. Then when we got to our room our key did not work so instead of waiting the 20 minutes again we called to the front desk. They agreed to bring the keys to which then took another 20 minutes and came with attitude from the woman who brought it. There is a pool if you can find it since the signs stop as soon as you leave the elevator, and apparently it is shared with the spa. I am not sure if the hotel or Spa is supposed to clean up but neither did. It would be a nice pool if not for the beer cans, dirty towels and people yelling profanity everywhere. I cuss but try not to around children if I can help it. I felt like I was at the club with a bunch of sailors screaming at each other, and non of the employees cared. Then there is the issue with parking while I dont mind valet, when you have kids and need things from your car often and need to pack the car this is inconvenient at best. There is no other parking for guests. The employees however were wonderful especially the bellhop and valet unfortunately it wasn’t enough we would not return for just that. The hotel is beautiful but unless your having a wedding or conference I wouldn’t go just for that. Read less
