Image of the Tripadvisor rating Best Marriott Brand Hotel I've Ever Stayed In!!!!

This Marriott Brand W Hotel is simply the best Marriott Brand hotel I've ever stayed in, and one of my favorite hotels period. This boils down to one major point: The people working at this hotel. I can not emphasize this enough. I travel a lot, and generally find people at most hotels to be quite friendly; however, the W took it to another level! I checked in with Danesha, as I was there for Music Midtown. This hotel had a lot going on, and clearly is a hot spot! I asked for a quiet room, and Danesha found me the perfect spot nestled away in a corner!!! In addition, the W provides earplugs! I slept like a baby. My room was wonderful- the W uses a lot of natural tones, wood, and blends nature with the modern aesthetic in a really unique way. The decor is exciting and realxing all at once- which is hard to accomplish! I had a littel bump at the beginning when my toilet handle was stuck. I found Benjamin from engineering in the hall as I was going downstairs, and he was on it immeditaely! He was so helpful, and when I came back to my room, it was as good as new. As I mentioned, I was in for Music Midtown, and the W has a really wonderful service where they offer guests a complimentary car service to points within a two mile radius. This is a real time saver and extremely effective, as the drivers are back very frequently because of the distance, and two miles covers a great deal in downtown Atlanta! The first day I drove with Jamal, and we had a great time talking on our way to the event. He was able to get me literally right up to the barrier where the festival access opened up. It was perfect. He also drove my son and his friends the next day and they loved talking with him about Kanye's Sunday Service that happened that morning! That same day, I was out all day and had not eaten yet. I was so hangry when I went to the restaurant, that I just asked (a new) Jamal if I could just order from the bar and then sit down in order to expidite my food. He could not have been kinder or more understanding, and within a minute my order was placed and I was sitting comfortably. The turkey bowl was delicious an hit the spot exactly- I was hangry no more! The driver in the afternoon on Sunday was Alonzo- he was really entertaining, and loved talking music as well. He zipped me right over to the venue, which was perfect. I got home late that night, and had two issues: One, my son's luggage in storage and two, there were no more of the amazing cookies left at the front desk. Brandolyn helped me with the luggage so I didn't have to get it out early in the morning and Brian, the most supportive person you could ever meet when having a cookie craving, had cookies and milk arranged for my room. I literally went to sleep after having a plate of cookies and milk at midnight. My 10 year old self was cheering breaking every rule! So, when they say the Devil is in the Details, they are clearly referring to the incredible people working at the W Downtown Atlanta. If you get the chance. I would jump at the chance to stay at this property. I can't wait to go back :) Read less

Never written a review before. Compelled to do so. Found bunch of hair on a wall and floor of the bathroom. Told the front desk about it before heading out in the evening. Came back at night. Still there. Called the front desk. Didn’t seem to care. Will never stay there again

First off the lobby is basically a nightclub- loud and lots of people coming and going. I can’t fault this as it is the standard for the “w” hotels, though not my preference. We ended up here during labour day weekend when our original hotel was over booked and they asked us to move. Check in was good and nice hotel. Clean and good quality bedding. However- the room lighting was really odd and the room was so dark. The big surprise for us was the bathroom was totally open plan with a see through shower visible right through the room to the windows (separate toilet room thank goodness!). If I was travelling with friends or family this would be completely awkward- it’s definitely a couples hotel. The booking should probably make this clear, as we had no idea this was the case from booking or pictures. Read less

So we've stayed at the W probably five or six times. We've had some issues in the past, but we've continued to return because we've really enjoyed the spa and it's fairly convenient - located downtown. I guess after this last time, it's officially time to move on. Where do I even start......I guess let's start with the spa. It's no longer Bliss. We were able to get a deal on our massages (better even than travelzoo) and the receptionist and massage therapists were all very nice. One major plus is that they have extended robe sizing, which was better than the last visit. While the "space" was the same, it actually wasn't the same the caliber. You can tell they are still in "transition." The lobby area was a hodgepodge - they were clearancing out Bliss products, but the shelves were bare and empty. The waiting lounge lacked the same treats and accuturements that we've come to love about Bliss. The lockers were looking a little rough and the hook in the bathroom was even missing. You just felt like the space was "tired" which is not something we had experienced before. Following our treatments, we took our stuff up to our rooms - a King room in this case. On the positive, the room was clean, and if you want a well stocked bar with snacks, they have you covered. It will cost your left arm, but I don't think that's unique to the W. We walk in the room, and right away, warning bells start to go off (in our heads). The bathroom is completely open (toilet did have a door) without a door. The shower is completely encased in glass - totally see through - from every single angle in the room. At first, we were like - okay we are missing something here. There has to be a way to "frost" over or maybe something happens to ensure you can't see through once you turn the shower on. We looked everywhere and even turned the shower on to test it. So we decide to call downstairs - because let's be clear - we've stayed here SIX TIMES with our kids and their friends etc.... and NEVER stayed in a room where the shower was NOT private or did not have a feature that frosted over. So I go to call downstairs, and neither of our phones work. I use my cell, tell them our phones don't work and explain the situation. She ignores the phone comment - doesn't apparently think that's a big deal - and proceeds to tell me "well, maybe one of you can hold a sheet up while the other person showers? Unfortunately because you are already checked in we can't do anything." At this point, we are about an hour out from a major fundraiser we are suppose to attend for business. So, we suck it up and deal with an awkward and weird shower moment. When we return from our event, we note the quiet hours. However, if you actually think they apply here, they don't. We didn't call to complain. This is just something YOU need to be aware of. It was a big party all night. Don't expect there to be "quiet time." We decide we want room service, but once again our phones aren't working. I use my cell, tell the front desk the phones aren't working and I need to be transferred. Again, not a work about the phone issue. I place my order with room service, and surprisingly, they were actually responsive about the phone issue and assured me they would make sure the front desk people knew so they could address it. At the butt crack of down, the power goes out. I call downstairs, again with my cell, again tell them our phones aren't working. They say they are having some issues. It's like pre 4 am I think. AC is no longer working, but what are you going to do right? We try to sleep. It never comes back on. We leave at 10 am and after enduring 6+ hours of no AC or power. We go to get my car from valet. They bring me the wrong one.... At the end of the day, unless you are wanting a party hotel and that's your main objective - party hard - then you need to avoid this hotel. If you are a family with small kids, you need to avoid this hotel. If you are not traveling with your "partner" and don't like the idea of see through showers, you need to avoid this hotel. And contrary to a post I saw where a manager responded to a review with "you should have looked at the pictures," I want to be clear that even that wouldn't have been enough. The ONE picture they have on their website, doesn't explicitly state that every room is this way and certainly leaves room for interpretation. The Marriott needs to make this crystal clear as a disclaimer. Further, after staying somewhere six times and never having this issue before, why would I look at pictures? In summary - this is a complete pass. Read less
