With wonderful service and a great location a block away from the National Center for Civil and Human Rights and the World of Coca-Cola, the W Atlanta is a great place to stay downtown. Unfortunately, the rooms are hit or miss, with some average and some in need of a refresh. Check-in: Arriving in a large group, it took some time for the staff to arrange rooms for everyone, so we had to wait almost an hour to get our rooms. This would have been understandable if we had all requested that the rooms be together, but we had not, and our reservation had been on the books for almost a month. This provided a rocky start to what was otherwise very pleasant service during our stay. Room: Since I was travelling in a large group, I had an opportunity to see several different rooms at the hotel. The one I was assigned felt very dated, with mediocre lighting and visible scratches on some of the woodwork. There was also a strange layout, with the entrance to the room offset from the rest of a room that wasted valuable space. My room also appeared to be missing one of the two cordless phones usually provided in rooms at W hotels. Other rooms seemed to be much better, even within the same category. They had obviously been updated slightly, with cleaner walls and nicer fixtures. Some rooms even appeared to have a newer TV than others. All other rooms I visited also had both cordless phones. Also unlike many rooms I saw which had an opaque mirror on the bathroom wall, my room had a frosted translucent piece of glass that allowed you to see the shadow of whoever was in the bathroom, which could be a little creepy. Aside from that, the bathrooms were well-lit and had large tubs and sinks, which I appreciated. I also liked that the bathroom door pivoted to close between the toilet room and the full bathroom as a way to conserve space, though I would have appreciated a door to the bathtub area, so that someone could use the bathtub while maintaining access to the toilet and sink. Amenities: Overall, this hotel had pretty good amenities. There was a good-sized outdoor pool with an adjoining wet bar, though I was unable to use any of those facilities since they close pretty early during the winter. There was also a nice fitness center, though I would have expected something larger in a 4-star hotel. Overall, things looked pretty dead visiting the facilities at 9pm during the winter months. There as also a nice bar adjacent to the lobby with a DJ performing every Friday and Saturday night. For those that are interested in arriving in style, there is also a helicopter pad on the roof of the building. Service: Overall, service was very good during my stay. Aside from the check-in hiccup, staff were very helpful, and always greeted you with a smile. On the 2nd day of my stay, the manager was standing in the lobby and greeted me personally, asking if there was anything she could do to improve my stay. It was those kinds of touches that really made the staff shine. Bottom line: For a business trip when you are occupied most of the time, this hotel provides a comfortable bed to sleep in and a wonderful staff to make your stay a smooth one. If you care more about your hotel experience, there are likely better places to stay that would provide more up to date rooms and better amenities. Read less

I ordered room service early the next morning before I had to leave for the race, and it arrived in 15 minutes and was delicious. I found an express deal on another travel booking site, so I was able to stay for a very reasonable cost as well. Clean room, comfy bed, great stay overall. (note: the showers are completely open to the room, so if you aren't traveling with someone that you are comfortable showering around, this is not the hotel for you. Otherwise, everything about the room is modern and comfortable.) Read less

Upon arrival from overseas in late evening they had given my room away and put me in another hotel some 30 minutes away! Apparently they had tried to contact me to inform me of this - just not true. Poor customer care, sloppy and cocky front service allied to what I can only describe as the atmosphere of a poor attempt at a Saturday Night Fever competition in the adjacent bar made this a thoroughly unpleasant experience. Avoid....there are many far better hotels without such pretension in the City. Read less

I had the most amazing experience at this hotel. From the moment I walked into the hotel great hospitality set in immediately. Danish’s checked me in along with Alonzo, the hotel driver. They set me up for success during the trip. I was also accommodated by Nuns and Jay who were extremely helpful throughout the weekend. The hotel staff sent an arrangement of pastries and champagne to my room during my stay. They also gave coupons for drinks at the bar during my stay. My room was upgraded to a corner suite. I’m a happy camper and am starting to look at this hotel brand closer. 😀😍 Read less
